  1. When I double click the install file I only get this error: Couldn't Install We're sorry, we can't continue because we weren't able to download a required file. Please make sure you're connected to the internet or connect to a different network, then try again. I'm running Windows 8 without any third party firewalls. I tried disabling Windows Firewall and trying the install again, but I'm not having any luck. I also checked Event Viewer for some sort of helpful error, but I got nothing. This happens on my PC and my wife's PC. -Reece View this thread

  4. My OS is Windows XP Home with SP 3 since years and I use it on a laptop Fujitsu-Siemens AMILO, 2004 build.A day ago it suddenly stopped with a blue screen and endless autorestart. After I stopped that, on blue screen was the message : „STOP:0x0000001A (0x00041785, 0xc0c00000, 0x8207c290, 0x00000000).MEMORY MANAGEMENT.”The system works OK in Safe Mode.So I could perform some tests: -1 GB DDR 2 RAM tested with Memtest 86 in repeated 5 full passes ; it returned zero errors. -100 GB HDD checked with CHKDSK and found both C and D partitions healthy. - devices status could not been accurately checked in safe mode, but my HP 1300 All-in One Printer and any external USB memory became not detected. - A complete antivirus scan with Norton Antivirus 2012 auto updated did not revealed any threat. - I did use even the Hiren's Bootable CD to perform some tests but fond nothing wrong.Mention that I conducted a deep dust cleaning of my laptop as part of troubleshooting. After all, my issue still persist.Microsoft Service ceased to give any support for Windows XP.Could anyone help me out of this ?Gracefully thank you !Constantin. 8. Although I have synchronized my mail folders (by selecting them and clicking synchronize button on app bar), I see incorrections in inbox and also in the bin folders: 1- In inbox folder, the Win8 Mail app shows 8 e-mails, inclusive some I've deleted some days ago. In fact, right now, I only have 1 e-mail in inbox folder (using Hotmail.com through the IE10 browser). 2- In bin folder, the Win8 Mail app shows 1 e-mail I've deleted permanently many days ago. Currently, I have no e-mail in this folder (using Hotmail.com through the IE10 browser). I didn't check the other folders. I checked that all Win8 apps are updated. I tried to synchronize the Win8 Mail app many times. My mail account is from Hotmail.com • I accept you disagree with me. However, never, ever, make this error again! 11. I live in Calgary but, help clients who may be in other cities, Provinces or Countries. Recently, I have worked remotely, using RA, w/ several clients who were newly installing Windows 8 (before the promo ends). In each case I have given them the Applications window and Desktop Toolbar. W/out exception, they all are excited to use it w/ those things, very happy w/ Windows 8, impressed w/ it for Features, technology and ease of use. Though familiar w/ 7 & XP and from 40 to 75 years old, they did not find it hard to now understand or enjoy Windows 8. Even, they heard negative things said or written about the OS yet, after I gave them the above 'tips' & showed them a couple of basics, they like Win8 & don't see why the bad press exists. Go figure... Cheers, Drew Drew MS Partner / MS Beta Tester / Pres. Computer Issues Pres. Computer Issues www.drewsci.com View the full article

  22. I just purchased a microsoft wireless 2000 desktop with wireless encryption of keystrokes. The set up went great but when I try to log in to my bank it will not let me. Every time I enter any numbers or letters with the keyboard it keeps putting in a bunch of extra dots and 8s and will not log in. How do I make this product work with my bank and other log in sites? What does the encryption do to change things? View the thread
  23. Three months ago, I purchased a brand new Windows 7 computer - Intel Core i7-3770/ 8.0 GB. During three months period, I had ZERO problems/issues with my computer. After receiving e-mails from Microsoft "What are you waiting for", I upgraded it to Windows 8. Since then, I have had two refresh, and four days ago, a clean install of Windows 8, because NOTHING WORKED. No refresh, no reset, no MS-DOS, no restore point, no repairs, etc... What to do when you get the following message on "the most stable", Windows 8, operating system? "The drive where Windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive and try again." I got that message after the following: I wanted to open a PDF file from my customer on OUTLOOK - a regular, every-hour procedure - and my computer froze. Nothing worked; therefore, only manually disconnecting my computer from the power source, I was able to shut it down. After I restarted, I could not get passed the login screen - my computer used to enter the "blue background color and nothing else" mode. I decided to use USB Flash drive to repair Win8 but it failed. I wanted to refresh my Windows 8, but I got that message: "The drive where Windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive and try again." Just 4 days ago, I did a "clean install" of Windows 8 OS. What should I do besides another "clean install" of Windows 8? I've tried SFC/SCANNOW in MS-DOS but got the following message: "Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service". If I click on "Re-image your computer" -- "Advanced" -- "Add Drivers" -- "OK", I can see my computer files. But of course, I don't have an image of my computer. If I try to use System Restore, I get the following message: "To use System Restore, you must specify which Windows installation to restore. Restart this computer, select an operating system, and then select System Restore" View the full article
