I bought Dell computer with pre-installed Windows 7 Home Premium. I had a problem with the system firewall recently and found that the only solution is to reinstall the Windows. I downloaded .iso with Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 because my current version was already upgraded to SP1. After I installed it, it asked me to enter the product key. I provided the product key but it says it's a wrong key and I realized that my product key must be for Windows 7 Home Premium without SP1. I downloaded .iso with Windows 7 Home Premium without SP1 but I can't install it now because it says that my current version is newer than the one I'm trying to install. What can I do now about this?? Can I get a product key to Win 7 Home Premium SP1 if I already have Win 7 Home Premium? The service pack 1 is free anyway... View the thread

I have a new Win 8 laptop with a GPT disk. In addition to the EFI and two recovery partitions, there is a large C and a large D partiotion. I would like to shrink one or both of these and make another partition, before or after D. What tools can I use to do this? The current setup is 300 mb EFI, 600 mb recovery, 184 gb C, 250 gb D, and 20 gb recovery partitions. This is a 500 gb drive. I have been told that if I shrink the C and D the recovery partiotions may be damaged and the disk wil be lost. I did a system image with Acronis True Image 2013 (older versions will not handle GPT disks) as well as Windows system and recovery disks but I really don't want to crash the system. any suggestions? Hi guys, All the lights are blue and fine, network light blinks as it should, the 'i' light is blue, all HDD lights are blue. I can ping the server. The server shows up both in windows under the 'network' section of explorer and in OSX on the left side of the finder window. If I manually power the server off (the only way for me to power it off because it is unresponsive) and power it back on, I can RDP into the server for a brief period and accomplish a few things before it becomes unresponsive. After that period I am no longer able to RDP into the server. Clicking on the server in either the windows explorer 'network' section or the section in finder on OSX does not allow me to access the files after the period of responsiveness. I don't know what to do. The admin that posted in the thread listed above said it was a dying drive, how can I test this? If anyone else has any suggestions, please let me know! Thanks! P.S. Here is an oddity. On the easystore, when the HDD access light is on, I can access the server and shares just fine. Once that light goes off, I can no longer access the drives. Is this sounding like a bad hard drive? I just ran chkdsk while I could and it is reporting no bad sectors, the Home Server SMART add-in is reporting 'pending bad sectors: 194' on the system disk. I have some extra hard drives laying around, just wondering what I should do next. And here is another oddity. When I started typing this post the HDD access light was off and the server was unresponsive. The light just kicked back on and it is still pretty unresponsive (connected to it via RDP). I cannot access the files via explorer. I am going to shut the system down (hard shutdown is the only thing I can do in this case) and leave it off until I figure out what to do next. Should I be looking at replacing the system drive? Is there a better way for me to test these drives? What other suggestions do you have? View this thread

I contracted a virus called "The FBI" virus. While removing this virus I lost my operating system (WINDOWS VISTA) I was wanting to replace it. I do have the original Product Key. I set up my wallpaper with a photo which was fine for a while, always on my desktop and I could go straight to it, suddenly a gremlin came and now I have a blue windows screen with an administrators key in the center which I have to click before I go to my desk top. It does not accept a double click to give me an option to get rid of it, so I redid my photo theme, but it is still the same. I lost my connection to my printer. I uninstalled the printer & now I can not reinstall. I can not get past the USB cable hookup of the install. The problem started when I tried to print a document. My Windows 7 desktop has 239 GB of files of which 174 GB are in the Users category and 69.6 GB are in my Desktop which contains mostly duplicate files. I didn't understand the questionable duplication which the Desktop imposes until I realized that the reason I couldn't find recent files was because they were not saved in the right directory of the same name. In the upgrade to Win8Pro (clean installed) I moved around my hardware and ended up with a motherboard without a parallell port in the machine that shall have the printer. To resolve the issue I bought a VScom 011H UPCI board and after installing the Win7 drivers (no Win8 drivers exists) Windows found and installed the printer driver without any issues. The port for some odd reason showed up as LPT3 though. The printer works without flawlessly if selected from the print dialog but it doesn't show up anywhere else. Since it doesn't show up I can't make it the default printer, nor can I share it on my home network. The VScom board has no setting to change the port to LPT1 nor has the motherboard so I'm stuck. Is this a known issue? I mean, a setup where LPT1 & LPT2 are missing and the one and only port is LPT3 isn't exactly the first thing one test... Any workarounds? View the full article

This morning I found out that a S-1-5-21-2598375819- ... was the owner of some of my forldwers. I changed that. Also this morning I installed TuneUp Utilities 2013. This program made some changes and I read something related to being administrator and having an open door to anyone to get into my computer. This afternoon I continued changing the ownweship of some of my music folders. Suddenly, access was denied (error 0x80070005). I can't get into administrator account, nor to search or finder (msconfig). I tried to reverse it to a different date to see if it would solve itself, but I got nothing. I can't open TuneUp Utilities to try to undo whatever the program changed. Nor do I know it it was caused by a virus. In the Web I read some possible answers and tried to follow them, but it does not allow me. It keeps telling me that only the Administrator can open ... anything. What can I do before I "empty" the whole thing?. I can't get into any folder to remove or copy them and thus save the contents. I would much appreciate your advice. Thank you. View the thread

I know I have tried this question before, and tried every obvious answer that is suggested, you name it I have tried it. I have also looked on all the Moderators answers to other people, and none of them suggest anything I have not tried. I honestly believe the only people who could answer this is Microsoft, but they want you to pay for them to solve what is their fault. Can someone confirm I am right about Microsoft (the moneygrabbing bastards, is Bill Gates down to his last Billion) or can someone give me an answer that really will work.
