These two updates have been installed and are successful according to my windows up date, up date run's at start up and they are downloaded each time, at shut down up dates are installed each time, up dates are ready disapears for a few seconds and then returns, this has been a problem for a long time. I have uninstalled , reinstalled, deleted and reinstalled, turned auto update off and restarted, I have run an entire disk check many times, defragmented the memory and hard drive, So now maybe you can help me, I,m no computer wizzard, self taught, I know little about programing, Thank you for any assistance you may have. *** Email address is removed for privacy *** View this thread

Hello, I'm kind of disgusted with the PDF export feature in Word 2013 Preview. When exported to PDF, a docx document (without any fancy formatting) looks different than in Word itself. It looks is as if the font size or spacing between lines was different (smaller than in Word), therefore the text is split between the pages in a different way than in Word. Both in 2007 and 2010 it works flawlessly with the same document. Has anyone faced a similar issue? View this thread

Well, when i move the mouse to botton left or hit the Windows Key + X combination, i get a menu with all the important items like Task Manager, Control Panel and others. However, if i click on any of these, i have like 10 seconds or more delay before i get the clicked item's window is opened. If i access any of these items from other locations, like apps search, windows get opened at once. Also, i noticed that if i right mouse click on a file to get a popup list of actions, it also take some time before i get the list to see. It is very strange, in Windows 7 I didn't have such thing. I was working on my laptop(Lenovo X201 tablet) when my windows 8 prompted that it will restart in 15 mins to install updates. I came back after an hour and the start up is stuck at "Please wait". It remained that way for about 12 hrs, after which I realized that something is wrong. (I am a student and this copy of windows 8 is downloaded from MSDNAA.) None of these work: 1. Refresh : Says that an error occured (Doesnt specify what error) 2. System Restore: No restore points available 3. Reset : Says that an error occured (Doesnt specify what error) 4. Automatic repair : Says, Couldnt repair your PC. 5. Safe mode: Gets stuck at "Please wait" 6. Disabling WiFi : Doesnt help 7. I scanned my HDD multiple times and it found no disk errors I then took out my laptop HDD, placed it in a external USB enclosure and connected to my desktop. I then did the following, but none of these work either: 1. Renaming the Avast antivirus folder in Program files, just in case avast was the culprit. 2. Replaced the registry files from System32/config/regbackup to config to load old registry. 3. Loaded the registry, from my laptop HDD to desktop registry, to disable the NLA service and found that it was already disabled. 4. Also renamed the fingerprint reader software folder so that the service doesnt start. I only have an ISO of the Windows 8 and my laptop doesnt have an optical drive. I prefer not to format my whole disk or buy a USB optical drive. Can anyone suggest any kind of tweak to repair my windows or in worst case reinstalling windows onto my laptop HDD while being connected through USB enclosure? View the full article

Hi, I have a brand new Lenovo Ideapad and have been having issues with Sleep. If I let the laptop go to sleep or hibernate it can't wake up again. Most of the time the screen just stays black and nothing happens so the only thing I can do is hold the power button to turn off and then back on. Original TItle: My WMP will not access CDDB for track info whilst CD ripping but I DO have an internet connection. Possible soutions please? I have WMP and XP SP3. My default browser is Firefox .I am trying to rip my CDs to WMP and, although the music is loaded fine, none of the tracks have any ID info. I have researched various forums with no joy. Most common theory is that I am not accessing the CD db because i was not connected to the internet whilst Ripping. I have a permanent Broadband connection and all other aspects of internet operate just fine,I have tried the suggested method of "find media info" but this loads an almost blank page with no indication if any search is happening and can still be blank 15 mins later. I downloaded WinZip utilities suite and have since deleted it, I had problems after running that program. I was having a slow computer and have cleaned the files from the drive. Original title: Can't Uninstall Java 7.11 I suspect I have a bad Java7.11 (latest version) install because games that require Java do not load using Firefox browser or IE and I get a msg. from the games to update Java. My browser plug-ins say Java is installed and enabled. My Add/Remove Programs has it listed, but when I try to uninstall the java I get a msg telling me "the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable" Further info says its looking for Installation package jre1.7.0_9-c.msi. I have searched my system and cannot find it anywhere. So how do I get jre1.7.0_11 uninstalled? Also, Java is not shown in my Control Panel. View this thread

Good Morning, Being brand new to Windows 8 (just bought the Asus x202e and love it so far)... windows 8 is intriguing. A big problem I have with it, when I enter the documents folder and try to create a "new folder" it hands, the open window "is not responding" and then crashes. The only way I can create new folders is to make them on the desktop, then drag them to their destination where I wanted them originally. This computer is for school (Graduate)... this is annoying. Any possible fix suggestions? again, quick recap... creating new folders (other than on the desktop) makes windows 8 'window' hang and 'is not responding' and then crash... :( help! thanks! I dont know if this question has been asked, but here goes. I have noticed this problem since the time I installed windows8. I have connected my live account to windows8 and I use it to login. So at login time, if the internet is connected (usually wired) and i accidentally enter the wrong password, it shows the spinning 'Welcome' but gets stuck there. No combination of keys work and I never get a prompt to re-enter the password. The only way to fix this is by turning off the internet (pulling the wire ). That is when it says that the password is incorrect with the 'ok' button. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem and is there is any fix to it. View the full article

I have a MacBook Pro. My graduate level course work requires use of Black Board Vista 8.0. My MAC OS is "too new" to use and is "unsupported" and getting a Snow Leopard OS, which is supported, is impossible. Apple suggested I purchase Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit) as this is the fully tested and supported OS for Blackboard Vista at my University. I am bewildered and am considering buying a new PC with a windows 7 32-bit OS. Easier said than done...seems like all the eligible PC's for sale have 64 bit. Any ideas? View the thread

I am still getting this error message: "Failed to retrieve media information from media server", even after stopping and starting WMP12 & UpnP Services. I am using Windows 7 and a Panasonic Blu-Ray 320. It worked before with the same set up so I am really at a loss why I am getting this message now. I felt like mentioning this cause maybe some Folks aren't realizing it. People might hear about Clouds Services & off-premise data storage; to most average users/consumers would mean little, if anything. Some people have more than 1 drive or partition in their machine & may or may not know why or what to do w/ it, in terms of data storage & or backing up files. Some people have external drives & maybe have auto functions doing sensible things @ regular intervals. Notice I said some people... Almost all people have data, files, documents, photos, images, that are important to them. Well, here's a safety net that may not occur to everyone though, it is available to everyone... this one is a bit new on the scene, needs no hardware and doesn't care if your gear does fail, blows up or suffers any catastrophic event... your data will, still, exist. Plus, bonus, it is FREE and offers, if I recall correctly, 250Gigs of storage. SkyDrive. Save or copy stuff to SkyDrive. Heck, I have Data drives in my PC and an External drive and I, still, put certain, high-priority material in SkyDrive. Just thought maybe deserved a mention/reminder.
