i can play a music cd on my computer but when i try to play a dvd i do not get any sound. i have tried fixing this for 3 weeks now but cannot get anything accomplished. when i first got my computer a couple of years ago it worked. is there any way that i could have deleted my decoder or messed it up? when i use Microsoft fix it it says that i do not have a decoder??????? i have windows vista home basic......was there a decoder installed on this when i got it??????? help View this thread

I am making a DVD using Windows DVD maker. After completion the DVD when played on a DVD player has blank video spots in it that are completely black, however the audio is still there. When I previewed the video in window movie maker prior to making the DVD maker it did not have any blank video spots in it. View this thread

I bought a PC from a friend, running Windows Vista Home Premium. Was trying to run system recovery but stopped by error 0xd0000017. Then i created boot USB killdisk to Wipe and Clean my hard disk, but i think i accidentally wipe out the wrong volume. The PC could not restart stating file is missing please insert Windows Installation disc. I downloaded and burned Windows Vista Recovery ISO but failed to run the "Repair Computer", Failed to re-install. I'm guessing the only solution is to buy an upgrade of Windows 8 and clean install it. But what bothers me is: I don't know whether i have a partition ready when Windows 8 prompt "where do you want to install windows 8". Please Help. Thanks Alot. View this thread

kb2748349 This update is for Vista 64 bit. Update keeps failing. Ran update fix-it. Found a problem and fixed it. Still this one update fails. All others successful today. At first it says installed and restart computer. When Windows is loaded I get message that important update failed to install. I checked and it is not installed. when you click the photos tile on Surface it either struggles and goes back to the main page or opens on the carnival page for a few seconds (failing to show the Flickr/Facebook/Photos tiles). I have refreshed and rebooted but still is happening. The tile does not appear to link to the photos options. Can you suggest a way of resolving please? View the full article

I started my dell dimension 2400 xp home sp3, it seemed fine. Then I opened google chrome, all was good. while I was waiting for it to come up, I went on another computer and checked mail. While doing that I saw that google was on my xp screen home page. Then after a few min the screen went black and the computer shut down then restarted by it's self. I waited awhile but the screen stayed black. I pushed a couple of buttons on the moniter and it said that it was in power save mode touch any key to get out basically. Nothing worked. I pushed the power button in till it shut down unplugged everything then plugged in and restarted. The same problem. I tried to do a restart and hold f8 but no luck. What know? View this thread

I have a new Dell Inspiron. I was using IE 10 and noticed that the screen dimmed when showing dark colors but then returned to normal when vieiwing lighter and white shades. I have a Delphi XE app running an Oracle 11g client. When we upgrade to Windows 7 clients we are getting thousands of minidump files in the application folder. I am having a hard time reading these files. I am beginning to think it has to do with power saving mode in Windows 7. Has anyone seen this issue. I have a computer running on Vista-64. I used to use the native mail program "MAIL". Some time later, I have upgraded to Windows Live Mail. Now, when I right-click a Word or XLS icon and try "send to" mail recipient, I am directed to the old "MAIL" program. How can I set the mail recipient pointing to the Windows Live Mail? Hi: I have an HP laptop running Windows Vista 32-bit Home Premium OS. Does Windows Movie Maker allow you to capture video, e.g., from VHS, then convert to digital and burn it to a DVD-R ? If not, what functionality does it have ? Does it allow to edit already-captured video then edit and burn it to disc ? Is the any "User Guide" available to be able to learn how to use ths program ? I was having a number of issues with my computer(Windows XP) and MS Office, when It said "send report" when Windows brings up the message screen when a programme closes unexpectidly. The Microsoft help window appeared giving me options for a solution one of which seemed to be to download Speedy PC Pro, which I did. Having installed this programme it said I had to telephone 0800 014 8114 to activate the programme, which I did. and was told that they had to access my computer to activate the programme. Very long story but the gentleman, then went through my computer show all the "events" etc under the system. I now find that a company called www.safecart.com. is billing my credit account every six months automatically for the use of this programme. I think the gentleman I was talking to was in fact a company called Advanced Technical Support and he was trying to talk me into full time tech support at huge cost. I did not accept buying the full computer maintenance and yearly cost to maintain my computer, but he said he would telephone me in the New Year and see if I would accept his offer? I did try the Speedy PC Pro, and it certaily did seem to clean up my computer and it did run very much fast - however it did not solve my original problem which was MS Office based. but I did then get a black screen message that my computer had been turned off to avoid serious damage - this has happened twice since. ( I have contacted the Tech forum). I am parinoid about using the programme I downloaded again and think maybe I should uninstall it if it was a major big scam or just over aggressive selling? I am trying to get the automatic debit of my credit card stopped. If it is a genuine programme, I only want I one off use or for a year, but not every six months! View this thread

I've looked at many Microsoft websites, all of which try to direct me to get Win8, which I don't want right now. I've been having a lot of 'system issues' and though that an upgrade to Win7 Ultimate might help. However, I can't find out where/how to get it. No 'official' sales, it seems. Not sure I can trust the sellers on Amazon market-place after reading some of the user comments. Has anyone done this upgrade? All suggestions welcome! View the thread

Hi, We are not able to install Office 2010 and received "Software Protection Platform" is not installed error. I do not find "OfficeSoftwareProtectionPlatform" folder under "C:Program FilesCommon FilesMicrosoft Shared". Also Registry path "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftOfficeSoftwareProtectionPlatform" is not found.
