Hi My laptop is running Windows 7 professional. I have constant high cpu usage (100%) and it is very slow to log on etc. I have anti virus software and on complete scan no problems detected On trouble shooting I discovered that on "start up" my laptop is automatically running programs - how do I identify the programs that are needed to run on start up? Situation My company has developed a macro-enabled (VBA) Word 2007/10 template. The template includes a custom Ribbon, Autotext items, and - importantly - a custom Style Sheet. Our installer currently places the template under the end-user’s default Templates directory. Using this approach, the Template automatically loads when opening a document that was authored in it, provided that the user has it installed. Users DO NOT need to write to the template, they just need to read/load it. Difficulty The above approach, installing to end-user profiles, works great performing enterprise installations on Windows XP machines. But on Windows 7, UAC requirements mean we run into problems trying to install under the end-user profile. Our networking people say the Template really needs to be an “All Users” accessible Template so that the installation can be to a System account (e.g. All Users) rather than profile-specific. Our question What is the recommended method for making a Word Template available to All Users, without forcing every Word document for every user to load the Template for every document (e.g. a Global template would load the Template’s style sheet for every document, like it or not). There are so many Tech/Forum articles about deploying custom templates it’s hard to know which approach would be ideal in our situation. Thanks in advance View this thread

Received a call from company intially saying they were from Windows? Stating we have dangerous issues on our laptops that could cause them to crash,having been passed from the original female caller (had an Asian Accent but using English Names) to a tech guy again Asian but said his name was Harry Parker.Harry explained I should look in "msconfig" at the services section to see how many programmes had stopped working, stating that our access and passwords could be taken. He said it would take them about two hours to rectify the problems, he then moved on to transfer me to their website, www.smartguyssupport.com and then said he needed me to complete an application and requested a fee of £154 payable by Credit or Debit card to rectify our problems, he said the service would have 2 year tech service support. We have had similar calls like this previously, we don't trust them, can you advise if they are legitimate?I have reason to believe that although their site has UK phone numbers etc., they could well be operating from India or an Asain Country?Please can you help, we feel they have accessed our computers and are turning off and stopping programmes etc., on a regular basis I'm having to go into "msconfig" to reinstate (ENABLE) many of microsoft programmes.RegardsMike & Joy Cross View this thread

I am trying to install MS Project 2010 on a Windows XP SP3 box, but it keeps failing with a 1603 error. The computer did have Project 2000 installed but it was removed prior to the 2010 installation. the scroll button stopped working out of nowhere and soon after that also the right mouse button stopped working, is there anyway I could fix them? I already tried re-installing the software for it, after the scroll-button failed, that didn't help. View this thread

Hey fellas, Wondering if someone can help out with an answer on how to disable a prompt on safe mode when opening a Word doc. Some background.. Word 2010 Pro Plus on Windows 7 x86. Site is a school, only account doing this our locked down exam account. Pretty policied out, with a Word template launching on startup & running some macros. Occasionally, the following error comes up... "Word failed to start correctly last time. Starting Word in safe mode will help you to correct or isolate a startup problem in order to successfully start the program. Some functionality may be disabled in this mode. Do you want to start Word in safe mode?" I'm not too concerned with the 'why' part of the problem...everything functions fine apart from this prompt. Just looking for a way to disable it. I've been all over- haven't been able to find much. I did see a couple things pointing towards a policy of enabling ActiveX Control Initialization (1)...that had no effect for me. Here is what I did it's kind of complicated... I rebuilt a user profile to see if it would fix an issue they were having... 1) Logged in as admin renamed user's profile xxxx.old, removed associated profile reg key, rebooted. 2) Logged in as user to create a new profile 3) copied favorites from xxxx.old profile so I could use a link. Issue still persisted so i wanted to revert back to the original profile. 4) Reboot, log in as admin, deleted new profile folder (regretting this), took off the ".old" from the original profile, rebooted. 5) Logged in as user, all data is there except the Favorites. They are gone. It seems like I 'moved' the favorites instead of copying them, although I remember copying. Is there anyway to get the favorites back even though I deleted the profile folder where they might have been residing? View the thread

I am currently making a time sheet in excel 2010. I found a format that was on the internet and is set up as date, log in, lunch out, lunch in, log out, regular hours, overtime hours. I have a IF statement in regular hours and overtime hours which for regular hours will only go up to 8 hours. Anything in excess of 8 hours is put into overtime hours. I would like to have the time rounded in the log in through log out columns to nearest 15 minutes by a factor of 8 minutes. However I cannot make two forumlas in same cell (have tried parenthases and commas and havent been able to work it out). For example if the tieme is 6:40 id like it to be 6:45. If time is 6:37 id like it to go down to 6:30 and so on. View this thread
