Greetings my most intelligent companions, I just found out that there is an upgrade for Windows Media Player 12, yes I'm most likely coming to the party late, please forgive me.Now I'm fery interested in upgrading to 12, my version is what came with my system when it was purchased 2 years ago. All my windows files now are not recognized - as I don't have correct software? I deleted it, trying to clear space on my hardrive - but I in fact needed that software: whereas my computer said I didn't... I think the software was called: windows basic service pack 2003, though I am not sure - and cannot find that download. I have a Windows XP laptop and really need to download that software again so I can read my files. But I don't know what software I need? We have just changed from XP to WIndows 7 and one of our Account Supervisors are finding it different to work with. In Excel in the number format you can't format negative numbers in red and ( ). You can set up a custom but then you have to set it up for all documents. You can set up a Macro which he did but it is an additional step. In Accounting this is a normal practice to you brackets around negative numbers. He has found in Power Point that was created in Office 7 on XP is he embedded a spreadsheet worked on it then came out it would automatically autosize the sheet back to fit the slide on his new machine if he works with the embedded spreadsheet it doesn't resize it's self and leaves the spread sheet showing outside the slide. He has a number of Presentations that he uses from year to year and he is starting to worry that it is going to take a lot of time with his new system. One of the neat things that worked in XP was the ability in the Open screen of any of the suites application that you could create a shortcut to in the left hand side of that screen that would allow a person to open a folder quickly instead of creating a mapped drive. These are a few of the things that only cropped up after we moved from XP to Windows 7. I have never seen an operating system change the way a program runs . I have seen changes on how to open a program but not the internal workings. If you have any ideas on how to correct the problems that I have listed above please let me know. View the thread

I have a a6410t HP PC. I clicked on CONTROL PANEL-PERSONALIZATION-ADJUST FONT SIZE (DPI) - CUSTOM DPI entered 206 ,clicked on APPLY and restarted PC.. But the size of the font increased the window size so much that I can't get to the bottom where the CUSTOM DPI AND apply buttons are so I can make it small again. Also can't use Restore for the same reason., any help will be greatly appreciated and time is critical. View this thread

I am on Windows XP sp 3. After my wife switched off the pc half way during power down, I have not been able to update properly. I kept getting updates offered repeatedly even though they were shown as installed correctly. I then had an upgrade to Silverlight which seemed to install fine. The next time I went to Windows update, it just froze and I had to ctl alt delete to cancel it as it was not responding. I have tried Mr. FIXIT with no success. Using WIndows 7 - my HP printer works fine with documents, but won't print any emails. whenever I try to print an email "There was an error when printing started.To check printer setup, double-click the Printer icon in Windows Control Panel" appears - when clicked it shows printer" Device working properly" . I recently bought a refurbished Latitude D430 and partitioned the HDD but in "My Computer" was an icon for a CD Drive (F). As the D430 doesn't have a CDDVD Drive, I assume a USB drive was connected to install the OS and software and then removed. Can anyone please tell me how to delete the "phantom" Cd drive, as I need to use the F for my partitioning. I've deleted it in Device Manager but it remains in Computer and when I reboot the computer it is back in Device Manager still with an explanation mark and a fault indicated. Hi All, I have a customer who has a large number of laptops which they have purchased Office 2010 Professional OEM for. Rather than "PreLoad" Office OOBE and Starter and all the rest I would like to "PreInstall" Just 2010 Pro so when the client gets it all they need to do is put the differing key in and away they go. does anyone know if this can be done? i know it is possible with Pro Plus but I can find out the way to do it with Pro OEM, some documentation leadds me to belive it can be done and I recall seeing big OEM resellers (dell, lenovo) doing it this way too. Hello: please help?? I ran check disc utility and it stops at 11% then goes to a black screen saying Diskette drive 0 seek failure. I have a disc with OS on it but can't get it to work. When attempted to system restore.During the end of process after reboot get a pop up.System restore did not complete properly.Unspecified error occurred.I believe at one point approximately 6+months ago it was reading registry error.Attempted restore with an earlier back up point.Same message displayed.There have been so many times this would of been great to use.Anything to due or have I some how destroyed this portion of os? Windows XP Home (32-bit), Version 2002 which came preloaded on my HP Pavilion 551w when it was purchased new from Wal-mart in April 2002. Wildblue Exede broadband. Prior to recent System Recovery computer was "clean", no viruses, etc., and was currect on updates. It was overloaded with old junk files and so many corrupted files that had it so bogged down it was almost impossible to use. Took almost 30 minutes to boot it up. Deleted tons of programs and files, defrag, etc., even tried reg repair program (RegZooka) to no avail. System Recovery was last resort. After System Recovery I need to re-install SPs , but Windows Update does not function and manual attempts also do not work. Why is a small gray blinking box in my bing search window on the left side inside the bar where you type? Started last month May 2012. My computer is up to date via microsoft. I am thinking that it has something to do with that but am somewhat bothered by this little gray box considering it was never there before. Have updated my daughters computer and she to has the little gray box in her search engine as well. Not even sure where to post this, I see files, Folders and search but chose Microsoft updates thinking that this has something to do with the updates anyway. View this thread
