I received an external hard drive gift recently – it is FAT32 formatted. My laptop c drive is NTFS formatted – OS win7. I understand that win 7 also supports FAT32 format. So do I need to reformat the external hard drive before I can use it on my latop? That is, can my laptop deal speak with a FAT32 ext hard drive if it is NTFS formatted? View the thread

my laptop OS is Wind 7 and has 3 usb ports. how do i know if they are compatible with usb 3.0 transfer technology (eg an external hard drive that is capable of transferring data at 3.0 speed). the device manager in control panels does not seem to reveal this information. Hello Indroducing my self 1st, I'M a NewBlood at this kind of things, I don't know anything about how to config you PC or anything else I already tried to viewread the forums but they don't have what exactly what I'm looking for, maybe I didn't searched enough, thats the highest possibility, I know. I want to organize my PC, this way: - 2 HardDrives: 1st is the OS Drive, 2nd is the StorageDrive (SD) - All documents on the SD (words, excel files......, save's/config's of games, transfers - movies, music, games (WinRAR), my music, my videos/movies, my images/pics, the normal things that the "documents" or "my documents" has). - On the OS Drive have all the installations (programs- JAVA, Adobe acrobat reader, Microsoft Office, games, GoogleChrome etc) For example: I downloaded a game online (BF P4F), and I change the Documents on to the other drive, so now the settings (controle settings etc.) changed and now the game won't save the settings that I put, plus it crashes down when I try to save the changes. - I want anything that is gonna be transfered/downloaded to my PC, goes to the SD like this- D:juniordownloads - All my music that I hear go - D:juniorMusic or My Music - My games that are installed on the C: drive (OS drive), I want their saved/config's files to be at D:juniordocuments (some games save their files on "My Games" so it would be like this- D:juniordocumentsMy Games) but the saved files maybe gonna be a problem (I don't know for sure about this!!!!), because the games are programed to saved on that specific drive on that specific folder, so it can't find and it won't save or it will create a folder that I don't know where! on de OSD! I don't want to have lots os folders named Documents/My documents, its some sort of library of "documents" there is tons of that folders that aren't be used its only **** for me, I think. Anouther thing that already accured to me, I was trying to change a location of a folder, and then I wanted to move it again, there was no more the location option (tab), I already tried on some other folders and I saw that some folders don't have that tab too, so some have, others don't. Some only have it once when you change them then they stop having it. ok therefore I'm here to get my PC organized all again, without srewing it up again. PLS HELP I want this way OS and the SD, so when the PC starts working like ****, I format the PC only on the OS drive, because I know what is in the SD, and in OS windows (or other programs) starts to create files/folders, and filling with ****, so I say its time to format, so I always have my things, on the side safely. Hi, I am getting ready to install Windows 8 preview & was going to create another partition for it (actually now I think a better way may be to Install Windows 8 onto a Virtual machine) but I have a question related to the 71 MB OEM partition that I think is the Dell diagnostic partiton. I already have 4 partitons & therefore cannot create another. Since Disk Management will not allow me to delete this volume I thought maybe Diskpart cmd, EaseUS or Partition Wizard. My question is: I don't really know how to run diagnostics from this partition, guess it's done thru the boot menu? But there must be another way other than tying up a partition, say off a CD? Is the Dell Diag partition important enough to keep around? Also I have had trouble merging unallocated space before that is to the left of the primary partition. Will using Diskpart or third party software leave unallocated space to the left of the primary partiton & then I'll have to move the entire 350 GB primary C: drive to the left of the 71 MB unallocated space in order to merge? I am trying to share a folder on the network and have it password protected. I am using Windows XP Service Pack 3 Professional. I have simple file sharing turned off in Folder Options. All my computers are in the same workgroup. For the folder I would like to share I have the following settings: Under the sharing tab, I have "Share this folder", filled in the share name and maximum user limit. In the "Permissions" button, I have removed "Everyone" and put in a user account I created specifically for folder share login and gave it full control. Everything else left as default. For the Security tab, I have everything as default except added the user account I created and have it allowed for full control. When I look from any computer on the network, I can see the computer and it's shared folders in the workgroup. There is a default "SharedDocs" folder that I can open. But if I try to enter the folder I created, I get the following Error: "You do not have permission to access \MYCOMPSharedFolder. Contact your network administrator to request access. If I do everything I have said above, but instead of adding the user account I put in either "Guest" or "Everyone, then the folder can be viewed on my other computers without the error but no password is prompted. What should I do so that when I try to enter the folder, it will prompt for a login and password. As a side note, my other computers don't have this problem with their shared folders. When I click on the computer under "View workgroup computers". Instead of it opening a list of shared folders it opens a prompt for a login and password and if it is correct, it will show all shared folders and files shared for that user. If having specific folders password protected isn't possible, what settings would I need to change so that it functions like this instead? My notebook fails to enter sleep or hibernation mode, crashing instead. When turning it on, windows asks whether I want to start it normally. Hi, I have a ADSL modem Wireline (2 Mbps) and 3G data card wireless(7 Mbps) broadband internet connections. When I use these internet services individually they work fine. I would like to use these wireline & wireless internet connections simultaneously, so that i get total connection speed of 9 Mbps. I am having another clients with same VLAN with IP's like, 10.12.121.15, 10.12.121.16, When i ping 10.xxx.xxx.xxx -t i am getting continuous reply but same time all of them are timed out for 2 hops. After 2 hops normally its replying till 48 hops again timed out. please let me know what are all the possibles??????? even i tried to ping from router its same. If its from one client i can suspect network connector or network port, but its from almost all the clients. Please if you any more details please let me know by reply. I will be purchasing several licenses of office pro plus 2010 and after reading the Microsoft licensing documentation I know I must use the same product types across the board. My question is if I installed 32bit versions on the product as some workstations are using windows xp and then remote desktop into my terminal server (Windows Server 2008 Enterprise 64bit) which is using the 64bit version of the office product will this function? Al tratar de grabar en un CD de música se quedo en 99% completo y se vuelve a poner en blanco y me pide que inserte un disco vacío, el CD que inserto esta nuevo y cuando lo vuelvo a poner me dice que el disco esta en blanco que inicie grabación, inicio la grabación y vuelve a quedarse igual.
