Hello, I am an A+ certified technician and I have a question about thumbnail caching. For reference I have read this thread and others like it. In order to prevent Explorer from locking folders that I'd like to modify I need to turn off thumbnail caching in most of my folders. I already know how to do that. Question: Can I turn thumbnail view on in just a few folders? (NOT folder "types" such as video. I mean just a single folder.) Will this enable thumbnail caching in all of Explorer so that I get the "folder in use" errors in non-thumbed folders? FYI: I also do not cache thumbnails for the taskbar. So my theme style should not make a difference... I hope. For my clients who have slow computers I normally stick to basic themes anyway. I also do not allow most programs to create taskbar thumbnails (such as Firefox.) Let me know if there are other areas I haven't thought of. Thanks for your help. View the thread

Hi, I can't update my Windows 8 to 8.1. The reason being is that the WINDOWS UPDATE TILE won't open. Other Windows app do the same. All application (pre-loaded or downloaded from Windows app store) no longer work and it's actually why I'm trying to run an update. Even some functions (i.e. adding a device for Bluetooth sharing or clicking Change PC Settings that can be found on the "charms" bar) can't be opened. I have no idea how did it happen except from installing a THIRD-PARTY REG CLEANER many months ago. I already have ran a full scan using a full version anti-virus making sure that all harmful malware, viruses/infected files are cleaned or removed. I have three computers running Windows 7 Home Edition. All of them show the Windows 10 app in the lower right corner. On two of them I have reserved the Windows 10 upgrade. On the third the app just shows a blank screen when I click on the app. ;O) Truls View the thread

I just purchased a brand new aspire tower directly out of the box and after asking me to name the computer it took me straight to the user login screen and is now asking for a username and password the I never used or created under the Other User name. When I try and sign in with my microsoft acc it tells me I am using the wrong password although I know for fact I am not. How can I get past this as this is the first time I have ever used this computer and cannot reach the desktop in any way shape or form beyond the Other User. Hi everyone! Okay so I was writing some files on a blank CD, then the CD drive was being kinda unresponsive and constantly retrying and spinning up. At this point windows couldn't read the blank disk. So I waited for it to try and finish but it was still retrying, so I decided to Abruptly shut down my computer then eject the disk(I know, it is a stupid decision). So when windows rebooted, I tried Re-inserting the disk but the drive was taking a while, so I tried it on another computer and it was spinning, but the file on the disk we're gone. Also I tried reformatting, but windows only showed me 2.00 KB that could be formatted, I didn't try it. So now I thinking I should throw away the disk because it "Failed", and It just can't be used. Okay here's my situation My computer was acting a bit funny and slow, so I decided to do a refresh on it since I had tried clearing cashes, temp files, all that good stuff included in doing a disc clean up as well as virus and malware scans(which came up with nothing). I started by backing up important files on SkyDrive, OneDrive, whatever you want to call it. It's the thing that gives you free space to put files on so you can access them on different devices. I backed up things like my Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird profiles, which includes all my saved passwords that I cannot for the life of me remember. After backing up everything I needed, I then refreshed my system. BIG mistake. I took the updates that popped up, re-downloaded Firefox and Thunderbird, Yahoo and the two virus and malware programs I use. My problems started with just wanting to make my now refreshed system a trusted system again so I can get my stuff off SkyDrive. So I headed to Settings > Change PC Settings > Users. Of course it says that my passwords for apps, websites, and networks won't sync until I make the PC a trusted PC. Fine yada yada yada. Hence forth I click on the Trust this PC. It took me to the page that gives you the code and waits for you to approve it( I use my cellphone with the Microsoft account app since I always have it near me). I check the box that says don't asks for a code on this PC and accept the code that was immediately sent to my phone via the app. I went back to the Users settings area and stare at the screen. It still says that I have to make the PC trusted. I clicked on the Trust this PC link again, went through the process of trusting it again, and after what I thought was a successful trusting, went back to Users. Needless to say by the fifth time of doing this, I was pretty infuriated. By what happened next just makes the situation worse. It link starts telling me: Visit https://account.live.com/trustdevice on Internet Explorer from the Windows 8 device you would like to trust. after blinking at the screen several times and checking to make sure I was indeed in Internet Explorer, I copied the link mentioned, pasted it into a new IE browser session and hit enter. Maybe it got confused since I have Firefox downloaded. You can imagine my frustration as repeatedly copied and pasted the link into numerous tabs, still getting the same exact page. After taking a moment to calm myself to avoid throwing the PC across the room, I restart the system. More updates. FINE. I took the updates and then more updates and after that MORE updates. I have now gotten to the point where the system is telling me everything is good and there are (finally) no more updates. I go through the trusting process again(because it still says i need to do that) and get the same page I've been getting that says to "Visit https://account.live.com/trustdevice on Internet Explorer from the Windows 8 device you would like to trust." I AM on Internet Explorer. In attempt to figure out what is wrong, I searched through previous threads. I found one person that said everything fixed it's self when they updated from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1. OK. Maybe that's the problem. I go to Settings> PC Info. And sure enough, it says that the OS is Windows 8. I am now scratching my head and trying to figure out just HOW do i get Windows 8.1 back on my system since that seems to be the problem with my not being able to make my PC trusted, which means I can't download the things I need from SkyDrive. I've had my laptop for a while now, the other day I had to preform a factory restart due because my laptop was starting to be slow. I had Windows 8.1 at the time. Now at the moment I just have Windows 8 and now installed all the programs I need on this laptop. All the programs worked at first after the factory reset. I installed some windows updates onto the computer. I restarted my laptop so the program and updates update and now I can't open certain programs like Skype, SCM and Razer Synapse ect. I have games that come with different home pages like Gametop, MyPlayCity, MyRealGames and Atarata. Could this cause a conflict and make some of these games crash? Hello all, We are currently in a XenApp 6.5 environment and have Office 2010 installed on our servers for our clients. We are in the process of upgrading to Office 2013 and I have been scouring the Internet for any information related to this before moving forward. I found various articles of users mentioning that Office 2013 would use almost all of their server's resources and clients would be unhappy with the change. However, most of these articles date back to 2013 and they don't mention whether or not the issue is fixed. I'm hoping that with all of the updates released since then, that the issues may have been fixed. I was hoping I could get some feedback regarding installing Office 2013 on a Citrix environment. What would be the recommended server's requirements (not the Microsoft recommended requirements)? Should we disable certain features of Office? Are there known issues with Office 2013?
