  1. if it is our memory try downloading memtest a very good free usefull programme thats scans your memory for read and write errors. download it from http://hcidesign.com/memtest/download.html please give as much info as possible what is your system specs, regards danzil

  3. you say you ave ac97. do you know what the model is is it cmedia sis or realtek, if it is realtek follow RandyL's advice. try downloading adia32 or everest, then click on multimedia audio this will tell you the exact make of your sound card. have you checked in device manager to see if its installed( and what make ). do you have front audio on your pc case.is this wired in correctly. regards danzil
  4. hi there what i would first try is removing the cmos battery for 20 mins.(this is the big lithium battery located on your motherboard), then put it back in.see if that works.(doesnt always work,i hav had this issue and it was bios corruption) but unfortunatly the issue you are presenting could also be hard drive failure. i would try and boot from your xp cd then run chkdisk. if you are un sure how to do this pleaae post back regards danzil ps what has changed to make this happen..any updates or software installs
  5. yes ther eis an issue with vista and connection after hibernation/standby. the only resolution is to refresh your wireless network list and then click connect. this should be resolved in there soon to be released service pack...i believe november the 15th was the day,but cant say for sure. this doesnt effect all vista installs though just a few. out of interest what laptop do you have and what wireess card do you have. regards danzil
  6. hi macbj go to start then run type in #(without the qoutes) msconfig click on the startup tab then note what is ticked, post that to us. download ccleaner from http://www.ccleaner.com install this untick google bar. then right click recycle bin then click run ccleaner wait for at least 6-7 mins initially. this will remove all temp files and un wanted bloat. defrag your hard drive also.start>run>accessories>system tools>disk defragmenter. aslo what is your memory load like. right click your taskbar (var at the bottom to the right of start button) then click task manager, click on performance note down your total "physical memory2 and availble memory. also what is the cpu usage like. regards danzil ps try running a scan to make sure you have no nasties here is the link http://www.trendmicro.com hope that helps
  7. Hi aa.browning and welcome. Have you gone into device manager and made sure all drivers are installed paying special attention to chipset. Also have you got exhaust fans on your case and are they functioning correctly? What is your CPU load like when the freezing occurs? Try when you load up Vista running task manager and noting down the CPU usage when the freezing occurs. try them first regards danzil

  12. try download the hard drive integrityscanners from the hard drive manufacturers website. what hard drive is it you have, the scanner will check for any bad sectors etc, this way we can see how good the hard drive is. it is highly unlikely to be your cpu.....does this happen when the pc is cold, or when its been on for a while. regards danzil

  14. are you using the belking software to connect to the wireless. if so have you tried allowing windows to manage the connection. regards danzil
  15. try these commands cd \c:\windows\system32\drivers\ attrib -h -r -s isapnp.sys the try ren isapnp isapnp.old that may work do you have the recovery cd and/or an xp cd regards danzil
  16. check your bios to see if the audio is turned off. is it onboard sound or a pci card. do you know the make of sound card you have, regards danzil
  17. do you have the recovey cd's and also a usb cd drive, does a friend have one. do you have a recovery optoion during post. can even get to the safe mode option. in the bios turn off "restart on error" something like that i forget teh exact wording now when it reboots it should show the error instead of the continous loop is it under warrenty. regards danzil
  18. also try a scan for viruses using http://www.trendmicro.com there are plenty of nasties out there that can course this.... you may of tried an anti virus scan but please try this as well regards danzil post back what it found. if you can not boot into xp as normal try safe mode with networking....but have not tested trendmicro this way
  19. as h0885 said what is this window. does it have a title. do you have anything else running.do you have the latest patches and /or drivers regards danzil
  20. update your graphics card driver. and direct x also check for windows updates etc. do routine maintenance like a defrag etc. when it locks up does it just freeze or do you get errors.or any blue screening. regards danzil
  21. well i would try another cable for sure.... i will look into your card details and post back... i tried plugging my tft into my card (brand new) and got nothing so maybe a setting. i dont usually use dvi so slighty bnew to me.bost all cards with dvi and vga i have installed can use both. regards danzil ps maybe worth trying your vga cable with a vga to dvi converter (£2) to make sure it is the cable and not the dvi connection itself

  23. newdev.dll is the dll windows uses for plug and play i believe. try popping your xp cd in then doing the following. start>run type in sfc /scannow. this will scann your system files for corrupt or missing entries.give that a go then post back regards danzil
  24. cant you right click it then click delete. give us more info..if you get access denied, try downloading unlocker, this will unlock the access denied and allow removal. are you getting error messages. regards danzil
