  1. Certainly sounds like it's something to checkout.
  2. Hi Jimmy, Strangely enough looking for entries dated Sunday 26th Feb .... there aren't any. There are some items we should deal with though. There are some leftover Google folders which may be interfering with the install. I've added these to the fix...... after the fix has run you can try and install Google Chrome again. Step 1 Not sure why you have so many adblockers running in Firefox: Running more than One won't help.... you stand to get conflicts and possible errors. uBlock Origin is about the best there is at the moment. I recommend that you keep that and remove the others. FRST has flagged this: It's not really something that you want on your system. I recommend that you uninstall it. Step 2 Please download the attached fixlist.txt file (bottom of this post) and save it to C:\Users\Ray\Downloads. NOTE. It's important that both files, FRST and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work. NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system Re-run FRST/FRST64 (which ever is installed ) and press the Fix button just once and wait. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/frstfix_zps7db0c905.png The tool will make a log in the Download folder (Fixlog.txt). Please post this in your next reply. Step 3 Please download RogueKiller Anti-malware (Free) onto your desktop. Close all open programs and internet browsers. Double click on RogueKiller Anti-malware to install the tool. Vista/Windows 7/8/10 users right-click and select Run As Administrator. Select Accept the User Agreement then continue to click Next then finally click Install Click Finish . When the program opens..... click Scan http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/rk1_zpsn7bfbew7.png Click Start Scan http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/rk2_zpszu8aygv0.png http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/rk4_zpsj0fwsy1w.png Double check anything found and tick to select items to be removed http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/rk3_zps0k0uqbtb.png Click Remove Selected When the items have been removed.... Click Open Report >> Open TXT. Copy and paste that report into your next reply. . Step 4 Try and install Google Chrome again now. In your next reply, please submit: Fixlog.txt RogueKiller report Let me know if Chrome installed again and also if there's any improvement in the running of the system Thanks. fixlist.txt
  3. Hi Jimmy, At least the new version of MalwareBytes recognizes Win 8.1 There must have been a glitch in the older version. Ok, time to have a look and see what's going on here. For x64 bit systems download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool x64 and save it to your Desktop. Double-click the downloaded icon to run the tool. Vista/Windows 7/8/10 users right-click and select Run As Administrator http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/frsticon_zpsdc3cbdc3.png When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/frstdis_zps7f598f12.png Make sure that Addition.txt is selected at the bottom Press Scan button. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/newfrst_zpsa63ffa3d.png It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please copy and paste it to your reply. It also makes another log (Addition.txt). Please copy and paste it to your reply also. FRST doesn't take long to complete. Once I have both reports, they should give me a better idea of what is going on with your system. Ok, that will come in handy when I check the reports. Thanks
  4. Hi Jim, Not sure what's going on there then. According to the Microsoft page ... and this one.... https://www.howtogeek.com/186775/how-to-download-windows-7-8-and-8.1-installation-media-legally/ (Scroll down the page for the Win7 instructions) the download should be an ISO file. Did you enter a product key on the first page of the Microsoft download ? Also it seems that the download only lasts for 24 hours.... so has to be used by then. If not, you'll need to download a fresh copy.
  5. So I see from the screenshot... that's very odd that MBAM throws up Win7. So is Anti Exploit uninstalled now? Have you managed to get the new version of MalwareBytes installed? If you're still having problems then it'll be best to disable any protection you have running ..... including WinPatrol. Once the new version of Malwarebytes is installed, you can re-enable the security. It'll be interesting to see what the new version reads from the system and places in the report header.
  6. Hi Jimmy, Now i'm confused...... You posted in the Win8 forum, but the header on MBAM shows: I also see that your copy of MBAM is well out of date: I suggest that you install the latest version 3.0.6 Because you are running an old version, this will have to be removed before the new version can be installed. Uninstall MalwareBytes from your system Restart your computer (very important). Now Download mbam clean and save to your Desktop. Please close all open applications to avoid any conflicts when running the tool. Locate the file mbam-clean.exe and double-click to run it... Vista/Windows 7/8/10 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.. and follow the onscreen prompts. It will ask to restart your computer, please allow it to do so (very important) . Download Malwarebytes 3 and save it to your desktop Double click the desktop icon, click Run, then OK Click Next Select I accept the agreement then continue to click Next then finally click Install Click Finish . MalwareBytes will now open to the Dashboard. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/NMBv3/nmb12_zpslgp53gyt.png All protection should now enable and the update process should begin. Once the update process has completed, Click Scan Now to start your Threat scan. Allow MalwareBytes to remove/quarantine whatever it finds. To find the reports From the main Dashboard click Reports (left hand side) Double click on the scan log which shows the Date and time of the scan that showed the infections. Click Export >> Copy to Clipboard Paste the contents of the clipboard into your reply. . http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/NMBv3/nmb14_zpsdq4dkyqo.png If you decide that you only want to run the free version: From the Dashboard click.. Settings >> My Account >> Deactivate Premium Trial. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/NMBv3/nmb13_zpsbwkswmeq.png --------------- In actual fact, this whole system is very out of date and is susceptible to infections. It looks like Windows Updates are not even turned on!! No SP1 ..... and still running IE9.
  7. Hi Jim, I've found a couple of tutorials for some of those ISO burners..... they may help you. Active@ISO burner tutorial Free ISO burner tutorial
  8. Hi Jimmy, MBAM will run in Safe Mode. Safe Mode in Win8 is slightly different to earlier versions ( where you used the f8 key ) Press the http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/Blog%20pics/winr_zpsvq3qsjc6.jpg key combination on the keyboard and type msconfig in the run box, then press the enter key on the keyboard. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/Blog%20pics/mscon_zpsnpzaagrz.png Switch over to the Boot tab, and click on the Safe Boot check box. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/Blog%20pics/mscon2_zpst5dfiwyo.png Also select the Network radio button. This will give you an internet connection in safe mode. Once you have chosen your option click the OK button and then click to restart your machine. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/Blog%20pics/mscon3_zpsflldjxuh.png Your PC will be booted into Safe Mode automatically. Now you should be able to update MBAM and run a scan. Note: When you have finished with Safe Mode and restart you PC you will just keep getting booted into Safe Mode, to stop this open msconfig again and uncheck the Safe Boot option, click the ok button and then click to restart your machine. Let me know how it goes and feel free to post the MBAM report here and I can check it if you want.
  9. Hi Jim, You need to download the ISO file first to the desktop and then select it from there to make the image.
  10. this is not the same burning process. You can easily download a 3rd party program that will burn ISO files. Top 3 Free ISO Burners for Windows 10/8/7
  11. Hi Jim, That's why you keep getting the driver error then. The ISO has to be burnt to a dvd as an image. It's quite easy really. Your Win10 can be used to download and burn the ISO. Win10 has burning capability. Once the Image has been burnt to a dvd, remove the dvd and use this to boot the other system. It should then run the Win7 installation. These links will explain things and will help explain the burning process using Win10.. Burning a Windows 7 ISO File on a DVD How to Burn ISO Files in Windows 10 Don't Download the ReimagePlus program mentioned in the link... it's NOT needed.(it's just an advert) After using and working with Computers for the last 20 years.... I'm still learning new things. But the learning curve will start to level out .... eventually :)
  12. Hi Jim, where are you getting your Win7 ISO from? This is the recommended location (the official M$ site ): Are you creating a dvd or usb version of the installation? Download Windows 7 Disc Images (ISO Files) Also make sure when creating the dvd or usb ... that it's a bootable version.
  13. So what was you doing when this message came up? ..... running the Windows Installation?
  14. Hi Jim, When you install Win7 (boot from the installation disc ) you will be given the option of formatting the hdd. This is the best option and guarantees a clean install. How To Clean Install Windows 7
  15. That's good :) Ok, not too difficult. One of my systems is a triple boot (Win7, Win8.1 and Win10 ) Dual booting on a Desktop is actually really handy. Just remember that the 2 OS will share the hardware, but apart from that the 2 are completely separate and have to be treated as such. Ok, you'll need to install Win7 first.... and then add Linux. Win7 will then already have the tools installed, that you'll need to create an extra partition. These 2 links will explain everything you need to know: The Ultimate Windows 7 and Ubuntu Linux Dual Boot Guide How to Dual-boot Linux and Windows (on a PC with Windows 7 already installed)
  16. Hi Jim, Without a name, we'd just be guessing here. Can you take a screenshot so that we can see exactly what program is trying to open. or.... If you click Start >> Settings >> System >> Default Apps and then look under Photo Viewer ... this will tell you want the default program is set to. You can of course change this to whatever you prefer. This is just me......... I never click on a pic to open it anyway. I right click on the pic and then choose what program I want to open it with. Sometimes it'll be Paint, sometimes Office Picture Manager... it all depend on what I want to do with the pic. http://i.imgur.com/XjUF1gQ.png Sorry I'm a bit lost here. Is it the Desktop HDD that you want to partition? What Operating System is on the HDD at the moment? So is it a dual boot that you want to create on the Desktop system? (Win7 and Linux)
  17. Thanks for the update joddle. Hopefully you will be able to recover the contents.
  18. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/Blog%20pics/new-teamspy-malware-campaign-turns-teamviewer-into-spy-tool-513115-2_zps9qijmlsv.jpg TeamSpy is back and it's turning TeamViewer into the spying tool that no one wants. According to security firm Heimdal, a new spam campaign emerged over the weekend, carrying the TeamSpy malware which can give hackers full access to a compromised computer. This isn't a new type of malware whatsoever. In fact, back in 2013, it was wrecking havoc in countless computers. Back then, attackers were gathering information from victims, be them ordinary users or high profile individuals working in industries or research, or even diplomats. This time around, however, it seems that TeamViewer has not been compromised as it happened in the past, so reusing their passwords (please don't do that) should be safe. Instead, it seems that attackers are using social engineering techniques and taking advantage of people's careless use of computers and the Internet to trick them into installing the malware. How does it work? First, an email from a spoofed address will get the victim to download a zip file, which, once opened, triggers the .exe file inside to be activated. The TeamSpy code is then dropped onto the victim's computer, as a malicious DLL. The emails noticed by the security firm had "eFax message from “1408581 **" as a subject line. As before, the cybercriminals install a legitimate version of TeamViewer on their victims' computers and then alter the behavior with DLL hijacking to make sure it stays hidden. "TeamSpy malware includes various components in the otherwise legitimate TeamViewer application. A keylogger and a TeamViewer VPN are two of these components," Heimdal security experts write. The logs are copied to a file, adding all available user names and passwords. The file is continuously sent to a C & C server. Be mindful of the fact that the attack can circumvent two-factor authentication and can give cybercriminals access to encrypted content which is unencrypted by the users on the infected computers. Currently, there's a very low detection ratio of the malware of 15/58, which means only 15 of the tested antivirus software were able to detect it, including Kaspersky, ESET, Cyren, McAfee, Microsoft, Sophos, and Symantec, to name a few. Since this is just the beginning of the attack, you may want to pay special attention to the emails you receive and abstain from downloading any files that don't appear to be trustworthy. 19. You would have thought so .... but sadly not. M$ just seem very slow in developing Edge. How to work with PDFs in Windows 10
  20. Hi Joddle, I do know that originally the new Edge browser did not have any support for ActiveX plug-ins. Therefore, Acrobat/Reader plug-in's didn't work with Edge. Seems that Edge still has limitations with Pdf files. Most users prefer to not use Edge when opening Pdf files for this reason. This link Here should explain things a bit better.
  21. Hi jacobi Ok then. Let's remove FRST and the reports made. Right click on the FRST icon and select delete. Right click on any fixlog.txt or fixlist.txt files and select delete. Navigate to: C:\frst and delete the frst folder You are more than welcome. Glad I was able to help. Safe surfing. http://fc08.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2010/033/b/3/Computer_addict__by_Sinister_Starfeesh.gif
  22. Ok, let's go the easy route first: Let's reset Google Chrome Click the Menu option button at the top right of the Google Chrome screen Select Settings. http://i.imgur.com/ARpxoJc.png Click Show advanced settings and find the "Reset browser settings” section. http://i.imgur.com/sw5cGQz.png Click Reset settings. http://i.imgur.com/V2Rv2W1.png In the dialogue that appears, click Reset. Note: When the "Help make Google Chrome better by reporting the current settings" tick box is selected you are anonymously sending Google your Chrome settings. Reporting these settings allows us to analyse trends and work to prevent future unwanted settings changes. Resetting your browser settings will impact the settings below: Default search engine and saved search engines will be reset and to their original defaults. Homepage button will be hidden and the URL that you previously set will be removed. Default startup tabs will be cleared. The browser will show a new tab when you startup or continue where you left off if you're on a Chromebook. New Tab page will be empty unless you have a version of Chrome with an extension that controls it. In that case your page may be preserved. Pinned tabs will be unpinned. Content settings will be cleared and reset to their installation defaults. Cookies and site data will be cleared. Extensions and themes will be disabled.
  23. What is the setting now? Sorry I don't understand at all. Are you saying that you have created a shortcut to the site and placed it on your taskbar? Does the site open from another browser? This is beginning to sound more like a Taskbar problem.
  24. Hi BeeJay It's a Windows OS, so always expect the unexpected :) Glad to hear everything is running as it should now.
  25. This is the User Account Control, it's a part of the Windows security system which prevents apps from making unwanted changes on your PC. You can change these settings if you want.....
