Hi jacobi Nice one ..... we always get there in the end Was that yellow and blue shield, the one that you was getting on your icons? Are there still problems opening Chrome?
-
Hi jacobi, That's the fixlist.txt, you will get the fixlog.txt once the fix has been run.
-
Hi jacobi I've been thinking about this. Is this the icon you see: http://i.imgur.com/6JNo13o.png If so, this is nothing to do with MalwareBytes. That yellow/blue shield just tells you that the program needs to be run with Admin privileges. It's just a part of Win10..... nothing to worry about at all. Ok, let's run through this in an easy way. Go back to post#19 Scroll to the bottom of the post. click on the fixlist. In the window that appears, change the option to Save File. Then click OK. http://i.imgur.com/XFDiRd7.png If by any chance the fixlist isn't downloaded to your Desktop ..... it'll be in the Download folder. But if FRST downloaded to the Desktop, then the fixlist should as well. If it is in the Download folder, it'll need to be moved to the Desktop. Go to the Download folder. Right click on the fixlist.txt ..... keep holding the right click down and drag the file to the Desktop. (anywhere on the Desktop is fine) http://i.imgur.com/ItebUD6.png Now when you release the right click another menu will appear.... click Move Here. http://i.imgur.com/hALngmF.png The fixlist.txt will now be on the Desktop. Once you have FRST and the fixlist.txt on the Desktop. Click on FRST to start it. When it opens just click on the Fix button. http://i.imgur.com/8KsuIJN.png

Yes, that is very true. Take a look at the 'Header' information: So as long as the fixlist is saved to C:\Users\johnson\Desktop and you use the johnson profile, the fix will work. For example.... when both are on the Desktop: http://i.imgur.com/ohqQ6Xi.png The fixlist attachment in my previous post is showing 0 views.... did you download it correctly? Ok, uninstall MalwareBytes for now. Something odd going on there.

Hi jacobi, I'm becoming confused here now. You seem to be concentrating on Chrome .... when It's not your default browser: or is Edge now the default because there's problems with Chrome. I thought these processes looked odd.... These are not from the normal Google Chrome. These are from Chrome Canary. This is a normal Chrome process: So why have both installed: You do realise that Canary is a nightly build...... meaning that it's updated every night. Because of those processes showing... it means that Canary is running and not the normal Chrome. Step 1 Recommendation. FRST has flagged this because these types of programs are not recommended. Reg cleaners/optimizers etc can cause more problems than they cure. I recommend that you uninstall this program. I really advise that you uninstall Google Chrome Canary Unless you are used to running and testing beta software I'd stay away from it. Step 2 Nothing serious showing in the reports.... just a little cleaning to do. Please download the attached fixlist.txt file (bottom of this post) and save it to the Desktop. NOTE. It's important that both files, FRST and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work. NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system Re-run FRST/FRST64 (which ever is installed ) and press the Fix button just once and wait. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/frstfix_zps7db0c905.png The tool will make a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please post this in your next reply. In your next reply, please submit: Fixlog.txt and confirm whether those programs were removed or not. If Chrome still doesn't open normally, we'll look into there being a restriction set in the registry. Thanks. fixlist.txt

Sounds like a plan

I would, it'll save any possible conflicts. uBlock Origin is more than an "ad blocker": it is a wide-spectrum blocker -- which happens to be able to function as a mere "ad blocker". The default behavior of uBlock Origin when newly installed is to block ads, trackers and malware sites.

You could try resetting Google Chrome, it may help. To reset Google Chrome Click the Menu option button at the top right of the Google Chrome screen Select Settings. Click Show advanced settings and find the "Reset browser settingsā section. Click Reset browser settings. In the dialogue that appears, click Reset. Note: When the "Help make Google Chrome better by reporting the current settings" tick box is selected you are anonymously sending Google your Chrome settings. Reporting these settings allows us to analyse trends and work to prevent future unwanted settings changes. Resetting your browser settings will impact the settings below: Default search engine and saved search engines will be reset and to their original defaults. Homepage button will be hidden and the URL that you previously set will be removed. Default startup tabs will be cleared. The browser will show a new tab when you startup or continue where you left off if you're on a Chromebook. New Tab page will be empty unless you have a version of Chrome with an extension that controls it. In that case your page may be preserved. Pinned tabs will be unpinned. Content settings will be cleared and reset to their installation defaults. Cookies and site data will be cleared. Extensions and themes will be disabled.

Hi Jimmy, This is probably coming from an infected site that you are on. These messages tend to be fake and are there to entice you to infect your system with malware. I take it that you don't have a decent adblocker installed...... these adblockers will normally stop these messages from being shown. These messages are not coming from your system.... they are coming from the website that you are on. That's why MalwareBytes can't see or remove it. No adblocker will completely remove all ads or these popup messages.... but they will get rid of about 90% - 95% of them. For Firefox... I recommend: uBlock Origin Click on Add to Firefox. Once installed, I recommend that you update the blocking definitions. Tools >> Add-ons >> Extensions >> Options in uBlock Origin. Scroll down and click on Show Dashboard. Now click on 3rd Party Filters >> Update Now.

Hi jacobi, Could you also post the addition.txt There will be a copy of this on your Desktop. I need to double check a few things and the addition.txt will have the info I need. Thanks

Hi jacobi, It may be because the reports are too large for one post. Either split them over a couple of posts or add them as attachments. After clicking on Reply to thread, You'll need to click on the Go Advanced button to be able to add attachments.

Seems this isn't the first time it's been happening when Kaspersky has been installed on the system. Maybe a recent update has made it rear it's head again. I found these that all say it's down to Kaspersky: Google Chrome Help Forum Chrome loads a blank page with (1x1) and even one on the Kaspersky forums: websites with just a blank page The key is turning off the "Common Banner List" in the Antibanner section of Kaspersky.
-
What security software are you running..... would it be Kaspersky by any chance?
-
So it's Google Chrome browser that you are using. Internet Explorer will also be installed as it's part of Windows..... try using that and see if you still get those errors. This will tell us if the errors are due to Google Chrome or possibly the actual site. Because they are the main 3 browsers used. As you wasn't sure which browser you used I put up the main icons so you could pick which one you was using.
-
Hi BeeJay Ok, let's do this the easy way. You obviously have to click on an icon to start the browser, which one of these is it? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/iexpl_zpsfgt1omks.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/gchrome_zps5l0rn8c2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/ffox_zpsdzw5yehh.jpg or if you have upgraded to Win10...... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/msedge_zpsjfcwk0vn.png These are the main 4 browsers.
-
Hi Bob, If your friend doesn't know what Logmein is...... then he doesn't really need it.
-
Hi BeeJay You don't say which browser you are using. Also have you tried another browser to see if the problem is still there? What are the links that are giving you problems? I just tried a few links on that site and all seem to be working ok. (Firefox)

This is definitely an odd one. Maybe FRST can throw some light onto why this is happening. Note: There are both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Farbar Recovery Scan Tool available. Please pick the version that matches your operating system's bit type. If you are unsure what you're system bit type is..... click Here for help. For x32 bit systems download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop. For x64 bit systems download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool x64 and save it to your Desktop. Double-click the downloaded icon to run the tool. Vista/Windows 7/8/10 users right-click and select Run As Administrator http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/frsticon_zpsdc3cbdc3.png When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/frstdis_zps7f598f12.png Make sure that Addition.txt is selected at the bottom Press Scan button. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/newfrst_zpsa63ffa3d.png It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please copy and paste it to your reply. The first time the tool is run, it also makes another log (Addition.txt). Please copy and paste it to your reply also. In your reply, please post both reports from FRST. Thanks

What about Edge or IE ... do they open normally? IE is under Start >> Windows Accessories >> Internet Explorer
-
Hi jacobi, That wouldn't make any difference... that's not what that program is for. That wouldn't tell you what the problem is. Again... this wouldn't help. Normally the fixes for this are quite simple. Ok, you tried the first option: But don't forget that applications will always open the same way that they are closed down. So if an application is minimized when closed down ... it'll open minimized. (these settings will over-ride the shortcut option to open maximized ) Is Chrome maximized when you close it? Another thing to try when closing Chrome is to make sure the screen is maximized and then close it down using the Exit option in the Chrome options. Either a spanner or a series of 3 vertical dots above one another.... depending on your version

Hi bj43cj47 The problem there is that the image would really need to be the right size before printing. When I say, the right size..... I mean having the size you require without enlarging it. If you enlarge a small pic you will end up with a very fuzzy pic. Shrinking a pic is ok, but when you enlarge one you will lose a lot of quality. I take it that you only have a small pic from OS. I see on the OS site that you can enlarge the map using the + and - section on the right. It would be best to enlarge the map here before printing it off.

Hi Skyclad, With that sort of timescale it will be quite difficult to pin it down. You could do, the only problem there is that you stated earlier... So just changing the mouse and restarting the system won't tell you whether it's a change of mouse or rebooting the system that may fix it. Maybe best to change it anyway and then see if the problem occurs in the future. If the security problem is related to this system, then you can post about it in this thread. It only requires posting in another thread if it relates to another system. This saves confusion.

Seems a few others have had the same problem: Take this one for instance: KB3205401 https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-update/kb3205401-december-update-fails-to-install-with/b9369e9b-2ac4-4c2c-98c3-ee45fb3cf79d Have you tried downloading and installing it manually? It's available from: http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=kb3205401 You'll want the 64bit version. In many instances, InstallShield packaged programs are distributed as self-extracting zip files. These can be pre-extracted using any unzip program to provide access to the standard InstallShield setup.exe. It looks as though 7 Zip is the program used for this on your system. But as I can only see .... {B46EEA36-0B71-4A4E-AE41-872 I can't see what program it refers to. I'd need to see the whole numbers/characters inside the 'braces' to determine that.
