Re: Something called 'Network Magic'...
DSTM replied to Mara's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
I set a Restore point Mara,Downloaded Photo Finale 4 from Download.com.Scanned and installed all cleanly. No redirection to Network Magic. Just wondering, why you got a redirection, to Network Magic. I'm no expert but I would be running Scans. Uninstalled cleanly with Revo, also. My guess there are Free Programs, that will do what you want.:) -

Hi Mara,When a process won't stop,Right Click in Task Bar >Left Click on Task Manager >Task Manager Box Appears > Highlight Problem Program >Click Box at Bottom, "End Process" That method normally works for me,Mara. EDIT.2 other methods to bring up Task Manager are, ALT+CTRL+DELETE. CTRL+SHIFT+ESC. Hope this helps. -
Pretty Hot here today, again. Currently 43C. Record is 46C. The leaves on the trees are curling up. Could do with a bucket of ICE right now,Mara.:) http://i41.tinypic.com/2h72rs7.png

I felt exactly the same mate, but I figured instead of ripping strips off them,to shut my mouth, and hoped they would do something quickly for me,which they did. I hope I never have to go back.Won't anyway, once warranty has expired. Next time I will buy a Factory Computer, and just up the Memory,if need be. This has been so stressfull,on me. Live and Learn.:)

UPDATE. It turned out, to be more Hardware failure. The Techy was quite understanding, and let me sit in the actual workshop, for 4 hrs while he tested the cold boot problem. Kept having to let the Computer cool down, after each test. Turns out the PSU was faulty first, but that didn't fix it 100%. Ended up the N61S Motherboard, was faulty also, because on 2 occassions while there,it wouldn't boot up past the XP progression bar. I wasn't happy with the Motherboard choice,so updated to an AMD AA-780G,and paid the difference. The other 2 Computers are running AMD Mother boards, had no trouble,so I chose AMD. A 20"Viewsonc widescreen, caught my eye,so I treated myself to one of them, also. I only hope, I can get a decent run now,as all this, has been a pain in the butt. Thanks Guys, for all your help, much appreciated.:)

Hi Kitten.Welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help. You have found the right place, to get your Questions, answered.:) Don't worry about noob questions,I ask them all the time.:p

This Computer is back to it's old games again. Will not cold boot.Have to hit the ON/OFF on the Monitor 6 or 7 times otherwise the Desktop vanishes.Hot,no problems. I realize very hard to diagnose a prob, without seeing the PC. This has to be a Hardware prob,so it's going back again to the Shop. Googled cold boot probs and can be many causes. Wolfey,I don't download Crap anymore, like the old days.:) The Screensaver is the small Windows XP one.

Hi Richard.Welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help.:) Look forward to reading your posts.

Ok Guys, all working again.I still don't know what caused my problem,as it lasted 24hrs,and may have been one of those Windows wonders, that happens, from time to time. Set Screen Saver to 10 mins,Monitor off in 20 mins (Power) HDD never. Tested twice OK. Dalo,I didn't know you could just switch off the Monitor, while the System was running.Much easier.I thought I may stuff something, doing that.Learning every day. Thanks beeceebeeand DirtyPolo, for you input, also Regarding ctfmon.exe. With IE7, it was driving me nuts, appearing on Shutdown,on the screen slowing everything down, while it ended. The popup gives you an option to "end now' Plenty of fixes if you have MS Office, but I have Open Office. This was happening on both Computers.Found a permanent fix, on the Net,and now it doesn't popup anymore. Was really annoying. Anyways, appreciate your quick responses, to my woes.Much appreciated.:)
-
Yes changinging to never has stopped the Monitor from going to sleep. I will do some more tests and get back Guys. Thanks for your help,so far.:)
-
Exactly beeceebee.Does not react to anything. This is a flat screen LCD Monitor.Only just started doing this. The only change to my PC I have made in the last 24hrs is permantly disable ctfmon.exe but cant see that having anthing to do with my problem. Goes into Screen Saver mode fine, and eventually the monitor turns itself off. Just cant resus. Leaving everything on never, all that happens is the monitor, doesn't enter Screen Saver mode. Would like it working like it was designed to if possible.Thanks. I will reset back to 20 mins and try again with Keyboard instead of mouse. I tried Mouse and keyboard and neither worked but will double check,to make sure
-
Hi Guys, One little problem more has arisen, sinse Dodgey Bros built this Computer. If I walk away for any lenght of time, come back, wriggle the Mouse and the Monitor remains dead,as I presume the Keyboard. Only option is to shut down tower and restart, then all is normal. Monitor was set Power off in 20 mins so I set to never, but that doesn't fix the base problem. Any clues Guys,Please.:)

If I could add to Dalo's last Post. There would be no advantage, for someone to remote access, your Computer, Dalo, for obvios reasons. There is absolutely no reason, not to have someone access your PC,if you know and trust them. Anyone else Big NO. You are watching their every move, and with one click of the mouse, cancells their control. It is by far the quickest way, to get your Computer woes fixed. Two respected Members, from this Site, have accessed my PC,dozens of times, in the past, and done a wonderful job. Great when you have Voip as well,as you both can discuss problems, as they fix your stuff ups,and believe me I had plenty.:D So in certain circumstances, remote access. is marvellous. :D:D Who said Guru's, don't have a sense of humour.:p I changed the chips around, took one out, etc and Crucial still returned the same verdict. "Test My Hardware" and "SIW" picked the Memory size change, straight away,so Crucial can't be relied upon,in every scenerio, as you said,Dalo.:)
-
You got that right, mate. I may be suffering, from mild paranoia :D I was interested, and checking to make sure, both chips were being recognized. I will make changes, and see what happens with Crucial,I have time. I was normal, till I had dealings with these Dudders.:p:) I believe you,Dalo. Just want to satisfy myself, mate.
-
Hi Guys.I just ran the Crucial.com memory scan, and it is only showing 1 of the 2 sticks of 1 GIG Ram I have fitted. False Diagnostic? Thanks.

The Barclay card technology is not here,in OZ, or being talked about being implemented,so until this happens, one has to be careful,at all times. I flatly will not have any financial details, on my PC. I send money, by other means readily available.I can have any amount of money, say to England, ready for the person to collect, in 1 hr,so why risk my Credit details, on the net.:)
-
I am a firm believer in the hole in the ground principal.:p I don't have more on my Cards, than I have to, for normal transactions. My new Visa Card has a RFID Patch in the centre of it. I am not paranoid, just don't trust this technology, yet. Too many holes. If they were so secure, people wouldn't be losing Millions,to these Scammers.Just my thoughts.:)
-
Hi Dalo,I found the article I was talking about. It relates to Credit Cards, mate. The Signal is not secure. I didn't think,my mind was playing tricks on me,again.:D Researchers warn over RFID credit cards
-
I read somewhere on the Net, that there's Crims now have the ability, to skim your Card details, simply by walking past you,in the street. If's that's true, then we are in deep schite.

I wasn't picking, mate,as you do a wonderful job, helping everybody, including us Novices. The point I am trying to make, is that all advice and instuctions, have to be clear and precise, otherwise we get lost quick.:) Or is it only me?:D EDIT. Wolfey hits the nail on the head in Post 19 Here,in which Wolfey says,in part "CCLEANER can be lethal in the wrong hands." http://extremetechsupport.com/forum/off-topic-civilised-discussion-world-news-etc/2059-registry-cleaners.html -
Re: Registry Mechanic 8 for Windows

Mara won't mind me having an opinion here,I'm sure. Asking a novice to alter the default settings in CCLEANER is somewhat risky. It sets a restore point, so why not leave all on default? It cost me dearly, when I attempted to make changes, in CCLEANER, when I first got a computer.$370 FOR 2 reinstalls. A novice doesn't know, what to delete, and what to allow. And I am speaking from experience.:)
