  1. I would like to expand just a bit. Kaje has already pointed out how to find and use the Character Map. Which works great. There are many different ways to do this. So many choices. What works best for you depends on what type of computer you have (desktop or laptop) and what software you have or want to use. Microsoft Office for example. 1. If you have a desktop and a numeric keypad you can use keyboard shortcuts. Hold down the Alt key and type 0162 in the numeric key pad on the right. then let go. This will give you the ยข for example. Of course no one can remember all the keyboard shortcuts but you can put the most commonly used ones in a notepad file to use later. 2. If you use a laptop you will have to temporarily change the keyboard layout and then change it back afterwards from what I understand. On many laptops you can type the fn key + the f11 key to activate the keboard numeric pad. Then you may have to change it back. 3. Use a text editor like Microsoft Office to pull the symbols from the Character Map then match up the font type in Office to match the font type on the forum. 4. Use the Windows Character Map directly and just copy and paste the symbol into the forum. This of course likely will not match the font type of the forum and will also need to be edited. To edit from the forum click on the icon on the top left that will remove all text formatting. Another problem with this is finding the symbols everytime you need them. You can copy the Character Map symbols to a file such as notepad for the ones you use most often. The advantage to using notepad is that it removes all formatting so you can paste into the forum no matter what type or size you are using to post. As for me just using google to type in something like "type the degree symbol" will give me the Alt and numbers to type in to display the symbols.
  2. Hi DSTM; No problem at all I assure you. Wolfey is away and I was going to let him take care of it when he got back. EDIT: Are you using a desktop computer?
  3. By any chance is this OfficeCalendar Online? What concerns me is us offering advice on how to setup, access and change data on an employers network whether it be from work or at home. As a security issue I suggest you take this up with your employer or IT department. They may have restrictions in place for very good reasons. For us to circumvent your employers wishes would not be appropriate. This is not to accuse you of trying to do any harm but there are many many people who use our site and we wouldn't want the wrong people to misuse the information.
  4. Hi dance; I'm sorry but our rules prohibit us with helping you with this problem. Have a look at our Basic Rules and you will see it listed in Rule 4. Feel free to ask if you have any other problems. This Thread Is Closed
  5. I know nothing about RAID or JBOD setups but be advised. If you FORMAT the drive it theoretically wipes it clean. This means you will probably need expensive programs that might or might not recover none or some of the data. Data can be recovered from a formatted drive by experts but this also can be cost prohibitive. I won't comment about price options as this is not my field but it won't be cheap most likely. Think big money. Please do not format until others weigh in as data recovery seems to be your main concern.
  6. Hi woz; Please don't use the registry cleaner. As you can see they can be unreliable or worse. Is anything besides web surfing slow? Have you tried a different browser? Is your boot time slow? I'm sure someone will ask you how you connect to the internet too.
  7. Public Transportation Sucks
  8. I can't commment on any security risks with Foxit as I just don't know. But yes there is a risk at this time with Adobe. Turning off Java from the Adobe options will offer some measure of security but not completely as it can still be exploited but not as easy. It's a never ending game with these malware guys isn't it? So keep that security updated.
  9. Try the fix Wolfey suggested. It usually works even if it isn't a laptop. On my desktop HP it doesn't work but there is an option it the nvidia control panel to do it on mine. It's hard to find though.
  10. So the two files are exactly the same. You transfered the working one and didn't just run it from the thumb drive. So in essence there is absolutely no difference in the files. Yet you get a UAC unspecified publisher message on the direct download one. Check the properties of the corrupt file. Does it have a publisher? If you got this problem immediately after the install there should be no malware relation. After the install of Windows Vista did you get all of the Windows Updates? Did you use a disk? Was it a CD or DVD? Where was it purchased? Did you choose the "clean install" when you you ran the upgrade to Vista? I know that's a lot of questions but this is an obscure problem and I don't know where to start or what direction to look.
  11. Hi alfa; There was a Windows update a few days ago that might relate to your problem. You cannot play content that is protected by Microsoft Windows Media Digital Rights Manager in Microsoft Windows Media Player 11 after you upgrade Windows Media Player or the operating system

  14. Hi davo; We will sure try to help.
  15. Hi Spools. Sorry I'm slow to respond. I'm in the USA too so don't feel alone here. This forum is for everyone no matter where you are. Welcome to the forum and glad to have you here.
  16. I agree with Dalo. Backup your data. It could be the drive. Although memory might produce an error code a slow booting computer usually means a major infection or a failing drive. If it was the memory it likely wouldn't boot at all and the errors do look like a driver issue most likely caused by not being able to read correctly from the drive. Combine all the factors and it makes me wonder if file corruption on a failing drive might be the real issue. You could try running some tests on the drive but you risk losing your data every time you boot up so backup now as Dalo said.
  17. Sorry DSTM. It was an oversight on our part that was specific to your user group. As you can see it is corrected now.
  18. A lot of people use Gmail or Gtalk so a very good warning on this latest phishing attack BeeCeeBee. A few words of warning: Clicking on a link in a email to validate a signup that you may be waiting for is a legitimate practice. No information will be asked for at that point. Clicking on a link in a email that asks you to provide information such as an email address, ID, password or anything else is suspect. If you suspect such a phishing scam do not click on the email link. Instead enter the url of your site or account into your address bar and access your account that way to check on the status of your account. Safe habits everyone.
  19. This makes no sense at all. Especially on a clean install. This is not how UAC works. What is the make, model and number of your PC? How did you reinstall? What exactly does it say on your Windows disk? This is not a disk problem. Are you looking for a work around of some sort?
  20. Spartan the disk should be bootable. Since it won't boot from the disk you should check the BIOS to see if the disk drive is set as the first boot option. Can you even get into the F8 options or enter the setup? Setup would be the BIOS.
  21. Hi Doug; The current setting for pixel height and width is 100X100 which is quite large for an avatar. Your current one is only 50X50 though that's why it looks small. As for the file size our setting is already 20kb which is more then enough to make a picture of these sizes display properly on web pages. If we were to increase these settings even more it would just burden the server needlessly and the poor people on dialup would be waiting for pages to load.
  22. I thought that might have been the case but I figured I'd better include more information just in case. Thanks for letting us know what worked.
  23. Ramesh may have a solution. Send To Mail Recipient option does nothing
  24. Thanks for the introduction. Good to have you here.
  25. I was looking at the tiscali site. You might want to have a look at how to setup outlook express email with tiscali. Also look at How to check the settings. Do you use SecureMail from tiscali?
