  1. I think he should be fired for even suggesting such a thing in todays world. Read page 2 of the article for an opposing view from Robert Vamosi.
  2. Hi debs; It does appear to be a driver issue. As Plastic Nev said you could try reinstalling it. Before you do though look at the disks that came with it. Do they say they are for XP? This is a very old scanner and Memorex does not support it anymore. As near as I can tell it was only supported on Windows 3.x, 9x, & NT4.0. As far as you updating the drivers I know you didn't get the updates from Memorex. Third party drivers are not always reliable. Running a software program in compatability mode might work on some software programs but hardware devices like a scanner need to have the right drivers for the OS you actually have. I think this is a case of a very old scanner that was never meant to work on XP as there are no drivers for XP.
  3. Hi old tymer; I'm older still I'll wager. Jump right in and we will all try our best to put you on course.
  4. Glad you founds us. Welcome.
  5. Roland Does it boot at all because you said it won't get past the boot? How did you remove the drivers if it won't boot. We did not mention drivers you did. You built this machine correct? When? Recently? What exactly do you have for disks that you are trying to install from? Or have you actually achieved an install? Very confusing?
  6. Hi roland; Have you installed this from a disk or reinstalled from the recovery partion? Is this a reinstallation of Windows XP 64 bit or are you trying to install a new or different version of XP? It would help if we knew the make, model and number of your PC such as HP Pavillion xxx as well as what your disks say. We need to know if it is a recovery disk or a full XP disk to isolate the issue. I assume this is the same disk that came with your computer. Is that correct?
  7. Hi roddy; Are you sure you typed that file name right? It is not a Windows file. I can't find anything on it as something else so can you please verify it. I ask because at some point we may be wondering if you have an infection as it is a very real probability based on your previous posts. AVG was installed for some reason. Did you have AV protection before that? Has your son installed any suspect programs? In rare instances a trojan might be related to your original problem. Now you have a new unknown problem so can you let us know about your security and suspect programs please. You might want to have a talk with your son first to see if he has anything to offer. I'm just trying to understand and of course Goku probably has a few great ideas of his own as always.
  8. I totally agree with Match. I always do. You have System Restore problems and you were probably looking everywhere for a fix of problems that you thought may or may not be related to your original problem. On another note: Reg cleaners usually only make things worse to the point of not being able to do anything until you reinstall Windows. I noticed you tried Registry First Aid Did it actually fix any items or did it just scan? Either way you should follow Match's advice on this as he knows what he is doing.
  9. To be honest I can't check on this because I don't have Windows XP Pro. But for some reason it seems someone has set a group policy on your machine. Go to Start> run and type Poledit.exe Do you see an existing policy? if so is there anything you can find in there that is related? Post back and hopefully someone can offer some insight on this.
  10. Well that's good news. So it does appear to be an IE issue. Here is something you should try. How to Reset or Restore Advanced Settings in Internet Explorer 7
  11. What browser are you using cas? Since you can access your web mail from a different computer it might be your browser settings. Try IE if you're using FireFox and try FireFox if you're using IE. That might help determine if it's a browser issue.
  12. By all means follow Scotts advice and hope for the best. The alternative if the file is corrupted beyond repair is to get the photo restored by a photo restoration specialist much like you would a photo from olden times. You might be able to do it yourself with a combination of really expensive software programs, months of learning and days of restoring. A specialist would be cheaper but not cheap at all.
  13. Hi roddy; Does the warning say "Profile Storage Space"? If so then you could try two things. If you have been downloading and saving programs to your desktop move them to another location such as My documents. Not to be confused with the program shortcuts that are created on the desktop when you install programs. Run the Windows Disk Cleanup Utility. To run the utility go to Start>All Programs>Accesories>System Tools>Disk Cleanup or type cleanmgr in the run box. Then select which disk Windows is installed on.
  14. Glad to hear it chris. I'm like you. I don't need all that garbage. I would take you up on that beer if I could. :)
  15. Hi Chris; I know what you mean. Windows Live Hotmail has what is known as the "Today page" when you sign in. I think what you want to do is go directly to your Inbox. At the top right of that page click Options. Then click Show me more options. Scroll down to "Today page settings" and click it. Tic the "Skip the Today page and take me straight to my inbox" and then click Save.
  16. I love Vista. I hate Vista. There is good and bad with every change. No matter what it is I intend to get Windows 7 at some point in time. Why? Because I have to keep up with the times.
  17. Hi num; Can you tell us the number of your Pavillion laptop please? Match probably wants to look up the specs. Does your laptop stay hot all the time?
  18. OK there are other possibilities as to why this is happening. Did you click Apply and OK when making the changes? It could be that the picture placeholder is from an inline HTML link. If this is the case the url may no longer exist thus no picture. It could be a firewall or HOSTS file that is blocking the picture url site. You also need to be connected to the internet. You could also try changing your Internet Explore Options security level to default. If it's just a simple picture like a jpeg and not an inline link then the sender has to do two things for it to send the picture if they are using OE.. 1. Sender has to be sending in HTML format. 2. Senders HTML settings have to be Send pictures with messages. Also any images sent have to images saved in RBG. Locate a jpeg image and email it to yourself and see what happens.
  19. Thanky you for the information Goll. I'll let others read this and hopefully we can come up with some ideas. Please give the the team and members some time to review this.
  20. Hi Goll; Can you please tell us exactly what flash drives you have tried? Make. model and number? Have you tried a different USB port? Have you looked in Device Manager for any problems with the Universal Serial Bus controllers?
  21. Hi whiterose; You might want to run the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor and see what it tells you about your system and if it will run Vista. It should tell you some things.
  22. Hi Lally; This looks tough. It seems you have Windows Mail but the error looks like an an Outlook Express error. We will get back to you as soon as possible.
  23. You're welcome. Please let us know if you have any more problems or need assistance or exact instructions and we'll help you out with it.
  24. Hi Doug; Please be patient with me as I try to understand a few things. Internet Explorer does not come bundled with a password manager. Are you talking about one of the many third party password managers programs for IE? If you do have an add-on program for IE uninstalling would be my choice. Then type the correct password. Or are you talking about IE Autocomplete where it wants to fill in the saved password? If this is the case then the saved password is the wrong one. Just let us know and we will figure it out for you.
  25. Hi Silver; The solution Maynardvdm offered is still a viable one. Check your settings to see if they need changed as the article suggests. SP2 changed that setting automatically in Outlook Express 6. That is the version you have It's still the same with SP3. SP3 just rolled up later updates and combined them with SP2. Also can you please answer Maynard Does this happen to all e-mails or only from untrusted sources? It could be the HTML setting in the security tab of OE6 or an untrusted source issue is why he asks. Try what's been suggested. If that doesn't work we'll look for something else. And in case anyone else reads this the Windows Mail that replaces OE in Vista has the same functions and settings on this matter.
