  1. Hi; Right click an empty area of your desktop and click Personalize. On the left side under Tasks click Change desktop icons. Put a check in the Recycle Bin box. Click Apply and OK.
  2. Hi; Go to Network Connections in the Control Panel. Do you have your connection and WAN Miniport connection listed? If you have both listed delete the WAN Miniport. Try connecting with your ISP's connection now. CAUTION: Make sure you do not delete a connection you use. If you do you will have to set it up again.
  3. That is a good question. I'm not sure what we have either. Maybe someone else will know. 1. Your friends Windows DVD works on his computer. 2. Your friends Windows DVD works in another computer. 3. Your friends Windows DVD makes some sort of sound in your drive but will not work (boot). 4. A different "clean" bootable disk of some sort does work on your computer. What disk does work? 5. You don't have an Asus recovery disk nor did you make one. 6. We don't know what type of disk you borrowed. You borrowed an OEM disk from a friend but we don't know if it is one made for your particular Asus model and number. To me this says that the disks are not for your computer and that's why they will not work. Aside from your problem and what the cause may be your attempts at a fix are questionable. I've explained the problem with OEM disks. If the OEM recovery or install disks are not for your computer they will not match the hardware or possibly the algorithym encoded on your board. You need to contact Asus and get the recovery disks for your computer or purchase a full retail copy of Vista. The needed drivers for an install will be on either disk. In addition. Microsoft Windows Licensing states: You cannot use any other OEM system builder media to reinstall the operating system, or any other version of media as these versions differ from the original OEM Windows license acquired from the manufacturer, and thus can't be substituted for that original license. If you did not originally receive a backup copy of the software that can be used for reinstallation, or if you no longer have it, you will need to contact the original manufacturer and request replacement recovery media; You may use that media to reinstall the operating system on that machine. I'm sorry but any attempt to help you with using these disks seems to indicate that they are not yours and violate Microsofts licensing rules and as such violate our rules on offering support.
  4. Thanks for letting us know Bob. I'm sure glad we were able to help you out. Best wishes.
  5. OEM disks are for the exact same make model and number of your PC. You will need a recovery or restore set of disks for your Asus f3sc 180dr laptop or a full retail copy of Vista to reinstall. Wolfeymole mentioned this. As for a repair of Vista if you had that option and it did not work you are out of luck. You will need to reinstall from the disks that were supplied to you or the disks you were prompted to make. If that is no longer an an option then you will need to contact Asus for the disks or buy the full Vista. Using someone elses disks to reinstall won't work if they are not full but OEM. Also it would be illegal. Contact Asus as Wolfeymole suggested.
  6. Are you trying to install Windows from a borrowed dvd? Is this dvd a retail version of Windows? Or is this dvd an OEM disk, that is a recovery or restore disk?
  7. I have to agree with starams5 on this. This is an advanced piece of software that is meant to be used by administrators in a business environment. As such the developers are your best source of tech help on this. FAQS and forum support may be free but limited. Wireshark is also free but you can sign up for personal support. Be aware that this support will cost you and is based on a subscription. It's not cheap. In my own limited opinion network security in a business environment is serious business. Depending on your business a full time employee is often needed. If you think you are infected on a business server you should get an expert involved immediately lest you find yourself liable in civil matters. If your network is compromised for any reason you and your customers are in danger as your security is wanting. Get an expert not a free program. You suspect that your server is infected not just one computer. That makes some sense. Your entire netork could be infected. If so then a program that spys on activity is not going to help you. You need security enabled by an expert. I wish you luck but this is serious business.
  8. Thankyou maynard; I'll make sure he has a great day and I will spoil him rotten. I'll make sure he sees your post too. He may be our youngest member now but I'm grooming him for the team. :):):)
  9. You said you "tried to make a document". Does this mean you can't create a document or that you can't open the document you made? Either way it sounds like it's time to reinstall microsoft office 2007 professional if you can't make or open a document you made with it. I'm assuming you have the disks and that this isn't a trial version.
  10. That will indeed be the test but if it was listed in Task Schedular then I have high hopes that this is resolved. But of course let us know for sure if you don't mind. Best of luck again Bob.
  11. OK it's the same time. That's a clue. It sounds like one of their programs used to be installed but not now. It seems like you still have the task running in Task Schedular though. Look at How to remove ParetoLogic UUS.DLL error message

  13. Thats good to hear. This may be a good time to look at Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help Recommended Security products Look what is not on the list too. Also consider what third party programs may have allowed an infection such as p2p, screen savers, games etc etc. In any case I hope everything remains well for you from here on in. Best of luck.
  14. Hi Miss. We hope we can help you and we also hope you can help us. Welcome to the forums.
  15. Hi bobby; That probably depends on the manufacturer. I've used recovery disks from Compaq to install to a new hard drive and HP says it will work. I contacted them. I'm pretty sure Dell might work too. However on some brands they only work in conjunction with a partition on the original drive if I'm not mistaken. However unless your mobo is the exact same one you'll be out of luck. What is the make, model and number of your PC?
  16. Hi Ghosthunter. Jump right in and enjoy.
  17. Do you have the blue E, Internet Explorer icon on your desktop?
  18. A music cd is probably set to auto play on your computer. This means once you insert it in the drive it automatically starts playing music. A CD that is bootable needs to be inserted in the drive bay and then the computer has to be restarted in order for it to boot (start from the cd) at bootup. This means of course that the computer has to be set to boot from the CD drive first. Not the hard drive or the computer will simply boot to Windows.
  19. Thank you Tootech. I would have thought it would work but since you have tried it I believe you. I'm sure glad you weighed in on this one.
  20. Making the CD drive the first boot device will do no harm at all. However the fact it worked before means one of three things. 1. Someone changed the boot order and you don't know it. 2. The disk is damaged and can't be read. 3. The CD drive has failed and can't read the disk.
  21. OK Let me try to make some sense of this. 1. In the BIOS you've set it to boot from USB. Did you save the changes befor exiting? 2. You are trying to boot from a bootable USB stick that you put Windows on. 3. When you try to boot "Operating System Not Found" comes up. This is what is happening. When you boot the computer it will seek to boot from the first device that you set in the BIOS. In this case the USB stick. If the first device is not bootable it will go to the next device which is your hard drive. Since your hard drive is blank it won't boot to that either. Logic dictates that the USB stick that you tried to make bootable from a Windows disk was done wrong. Therefore it is not a bootable USB stick. Therefore you get the "Operating System Not Found" because there is no operating system and your stick was not made right. OK now listen carefully. I assume your external cdrom is a USB external cdrom. This is most probably right these days. So use that instead of trying to create a bootable USB stick. A USB device is a USB device. So do this ok? 1. Set the BIOS to boot from USB. 2. Save the changes in the BIOS and exit. 3. Plug in your external CDROM. 4. Put in the Windows disk in the external CDROM. 5. Make sure it is a full Windows disk or one for your system. 6. Reboot your computer. If I'm mistaken you or someone else will let me know but short of buying a replacement internal CDROM drive this would be your best option.
  22. Hi to you too. Welcome to our home.
  23. Hi Ruddles; My first question is what is the file type of the attachment? For instance if it's a doc file you need something like Microsoft Office or Open Office to view it. If its a picture it could be something like jpeg, giff or bmp. Once we know what the file extension is we can associate a program with it.
  24. Slee plug in your cdrom first then check your BIOS. Set the USB as first boot. What is anything?
  25. If you have access to that external drive might it not be easier to install that way?
