  1. It is a pain in situations like this. I wonder how big the OS would be though if every region and language was included in the install.
  2. I suspected as much as I think your computer is now being used as a networked server. Have you deleted the torrent program too?
  3. Although there are some settings you can change in how Windows displays certain things in different languages it only goes so far. 1. Numbers, dates, currencies and time. 2. Third party software such as news and weather. 3. Keyboards and such. 4. Set up a switch to go back and forth. What you can not do is switch Windows completely to work in a different language. That choice has to be made at the time Windows is installed. You pick the region and language at that time. If you reinstall Windows you can pick the new settings at that time. Of course all data will be lost.
  4. What is the maker of your graphics or graphics card? Exactly that is. What is the make, model and number of your PC? Did your monitor come with software? What is the nature of this film you were watching? How did you adjust the brightness? Does the taskbar display right at different resolutions?
  5. Please don't feel that way. We just want to figure this out and help you. If you downloaded those programs from the makers they will have not caused this. If you used a P2P or torrent program to get them for free then that could be the cause. If the latter is the case then uninstall the download program and the programs you downloaded using that. Reboot and immediately try to connect again. If we can get rid of any downloaded programs that are malicious first and re-establish an internet connection then it will be easier to perform a malware removal process.
  6. What browser do you use? As noted almost all cookies are completely harmless. Also many of them are useful. If you set your browser to block all cookies it will but the result may not be what you want. For instance you won't be able to save passwords. As Nev said the best thing to do is just dump them on a regular basis.
  7. Hi; I have to admit I'm confused. The squid error (squid/2.6.STABLE6) seems related to being connected to a server or proxy such as if you are connecting through a work network. Anyway the first thing you should do is not run Mcafee and Avast at the same time. Only use one real time AV. What programs did you download? Have you run scans with Mcafee or Avast? Crashing programs might indeed be malware related.
  8. CONGRATULATIONS You're a good man. Keep up the good work.
  9. Hi Dan; Welcome to our forum. No one knows it all but we all know something. Searching the web is something we all do well. Looking forward to having you here.
  10. tismehi that makes a whole lot of sense. Good one. I haven't used RealPlayer in years so I can't verify it. But it makes sense and you have it so very likely you are right. If I understand you correctly since the CD is not in the drive after adding it to the library the player can't find the media. Is that right? If so then the files need to be copied to a location on the hard drive then added to the library. Does that make sense? I await everyones feed back as you bring up a very good point. Edit: It seems that is exactly what you are saying. Brilliant deduction and fix too.
  11. Hi unphased; Help you with what? Are you trying to get your data back from a drive that went through a failed reinstall? Did you manage to reinstall? What did you do to try to speed it up? Why did you try to speed it up? Do you have good antivirus protection? What is the make, model and number of your PC? Did you get errors on the repair or reinstall? To be honest two things jump out. 1. The PC has been booting slower and slower. 2. A reinstall failed if I'm not mistaken. It certainly sounds like the hard drive has failed. If so data retrieval is highly unlikely without a proper specialist and a great deal of money.
  12. Hi Mary and everyone else. Is this what you used Mary? MSI -- MICRO-STAR INT'L CO., LTD.
  13. That's great. Let us know how it all works out when you are done.
  14. Cool. It's Cindys birthday. Have a fantastic one Cindy.
  15. No matter what you have heard there does still seem to be problems with IE8 and XP although it seems to work well with Vista. Try uninstalling IE8 and see if that makes a difference. The next thing I would suspect is malware. Possibly caused by P2P, torrents, toolbars, search programs etc. Next try How to Reset or Restore Advanced Settings in Internet Explorer 7 I say this because many add-ons or malware add-ons can cause issues that this might remove. If that works you should consider running our malware removal proccess. To be quite honest it does sound like you have some programs and/or malware that is causing this. Remove these items if you have them.
  16. If you scroll down to the very last section How to take ownership of a folder not the one above it it should work. For instance apply those steps to the user accounts My Documents folder. Make sure you select the Replace owner on subcontainers and objects check box in step 4.
  17. Oh My Goodness. My wife and grandson are going to love that one. OK OK I laughed too. :):):)
  18. Thankyou Tootech and DSTM also. It's always nice to be appreciated. And for the record I appreciate you guys too.
  19. I don't think XP has native software for burning DVD's. Only CD's. For that you need third party software.
  20. You're quite welcome. I'm glad it was an easy one.
  21. See if you can take ownership of the folders. That should save some time. How to take ownership of a file or a folder in Windows XP
  22. WOW 2000 and counting. Thanks to you guys it was possible. Thanks every blessed one of you. Maynard you are indeed a good man.
  23. Sitting on my butt and drinking beer of course.
  24. Since bowling counts I will make a statement or two. When I was 8 I could bowl 180. Now it's 120. lol But it's still the greatest sport as you can sit on your butt most of the time and drink beer while you play. I should practice that more.
  25. Well in my school days I did some wresteling but these days it just minature put put golf. Is bowling a sport? My 6 year old drandson and me have done that. However at my age I think that getting from the bed to the bathroom without falling down should constitute as a sport.
