I like the gold effect. I wish the program was free because I have some photos I would like to try it on.

Hi Billy; Did this start immediately after installing the software? If so do a System Restore to before you installed it. I say this because uninstalling AOL does not always go well. Is AOL your ISP or are you just using their software? Was any previous version of AOL on this computer? If this definetly started immediately after installing it and they are your ISP you should contact them as it would seem it's with their software and they owe you a solution as you are paying them. If they are not your ISP they will not help you. If they are not then their is no reason to use the software. Personally I wouldn't use AOL as a provider or use the software even if I could get free internet access. In case it isn't AOL do you get any specific error messages? When do you get the error message?

zinglebarb is spot on with the fixes. It's been a long time since I've seen this issue. I was used to seeing it as a result of malware infections. Malware often times corrupted the winsock. I would try exactly as he said but you might also want to consider if you have infections. Hopefully the fixes will get you up and running for now. Thanks zinglebarb.

Now that's just cool. -
I really don't understand that. TweakVi is just a really glorified regestry editor. To use it to just remove the arrows would only affect that registry key and that one alone. For it to affect anything else if that is all you used it for makes no sense. For that matter it makes no sense at all on any aspect. TweakVI is clean so you need to consider the other programs you tried. For that matter consider ALL the other programs you mentioned or any others you might have installed. On any Vista machine that does not have crap installed it will work just fine. Like I said TweakVI just edits the registry and that part is no big deal. So if you think it or the other fixes you tried are causing problems elswhere then you need to consider the other programs and the fault with them Exactly what are the other programs? Did TweakVI remove the arrows?

TweakVI will indeed do it for you. I use it myself.

Hi Gregg; It seems that Malwarebytes will fix this for you. check out BleepingComputer. Since I happen to know that you don't have a current Antivirus I would like you to run a few other scans too. Please follow it exactly in it's entirety. Your computer is infected with Malware. Malware is software designed to infiltrate or damage a computer system without the owner's informed consent. It is a combination of the words malicious and software. The expression is a general term used by computer professionals to mean a variety of forms of hostile, intrusive, or annoying software or program code. It is in your best interest to note the following: Please disable your resident security applications (such as AVG, Spybot, WinPatrol, etc.) before performing the below procedure so that they do not interfere with the process. Perform all the steps in the order listed to avoid any conflicts. If unsure, please stop and voice your doubts. You might be required to go offline during the disinfection process. Therefore, it is recommended to print off the instructions below for ease of reference. If you stick to the above guidelines, all should go smoothly. ================================================ STEP 1 Download ATF-Cleaner by Atribune. Save the file to your Desktop. Double-click on the file to run the program. On the Main tab, check the Select All button. Next, click on the Firefox tab (if applicable) and check the Select All button. Note: If you would like to preserve your saved passwords in Firefox, then click No at the corresponding prompt. Now, click on the Opera tab (if applicable) and check the Select All button. Note: If you would like to preserve your saved passwords in Opera, then click No at the corresponding prompt. Press the Empty Selected button and click OK to acknowledge the corresponding prompt. Click on the Exit button to quit the program. ================================================ STEP 2 Please click here to download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. Save the file to your Desktop. Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program. At the end, make sure a check mark is placed next to: Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware [*]Click Finish. [*]The program will download and update itself if it finds the necessity to do so. Please allow this. [*]Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan. Note: Depending on your computer specifications, the scan may take some time to complete. Please wait patiently and do not interrupt the process. [*]When the scan is complete, click OK, and then Show Results to view the results. [*]Make sure that every entry is selected, and click Remove Selected. [*]Restart your computer. ================================================ STEP 3 Please click here to download SUPERAntiSpyware (Free Version). Save the file to your Desktop. Double-click SUPERAntiSpyware.exe and follow the prompts to install the program. Open SUPERAntiSpyware. Under Configuration and Preferences, click the Preferences button. Click the Scanning Control tab. Under Scanner Options make sure the following fields checked: [*]Click the Close button to leave the control center screen. [*]On the main screen, under Scan for Harmful Software click Scan your computer. [*]On the left, make sure you check mark All the Fixed Drives. [*]On the right, under Complete Scan, choose Perform Complete Scan. [*]Click Next to start the scan. Please be patient while it scans your computer. [*]After the scan is complete, a Scan Summary box will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click OK. [*]Make sure every entry has a check mark next to it and click Next. [*]A notification will appear that Quarantine and Removal is Complete. Click OK and then Finish to return to the main menu. [*]Restart your computer. ================================================ STEP 4 Please visit the ESET Online Scanner, using Internet Explorer to initiate the scan. Note: If you are running Windows Vista, then you will need Administrative privileges to complete the latter part of the procedure. To do so, right-click on the Internet Explorer icon in the Start Menu and select the Run As Administrator option in the shell context menu. Check mark the YES, I accept the Terms of Use box. Click the Start button. Click the Install button on the following screen. Click Start. This will will initialize and update the scanner engine. Check mark the box beside Remove found threats. Click the Scan button. This will start the scan. Please be patient while it is in progress. Restart your computer. ================================================ STEP 5 Click on Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools and select System Restore. Choose the radio button marked Create a Restore Point on the first screen and click Next. Give the restore point a name then click Create. The new point will be stamped with the current date and time. Keep a note of this so you can find it easily should you need to use System Restore. Next, click on Start > Run, type Cleanmgr and click on OK. Click on the More Options tab. Click the Clean Up button in the System Restore section to remove all previous restore points except the most recent one. This will remove any infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in "System Restore" are protected to prevent any programs changing those files. This is the only foolproof way to ensure the deletion of those files. Note: Do not clear restore points on a regular basis as doing so will clear all previous restore points even those that you may need. System Restore is a useful tool to revert your computer back to a working condition if something goes wrong. Re-enable all your security applications and please return here and tell us how the computer seems to be operating. Close browsers before scanning Scan for tracking cookies Terminate memory threats before quarantining

Keith I suggested my steps because after researching it seems this is a common problem specific to Dell computers. In most cases it works so I hope it will for you too. If it does start normally plug your USB devices back in. Try what I suggested first and then see if you have other problems.
-
Since your card reader and USB devices don't work backing up by burning your data to CD's is probably your best option. Remember though not to run the risk of reinfection.
-
The mere presence of any daemon tools or CD copying software may be enough to generate the error. I've even read that some people have problems with it due to Nero being installed. Also as Maynard asked what type of CD or DVD drive are you using? If you look at this SecuROMâ„¢ Support Information page it clearly states to use a local CD or DVD-ROM drive to generate the log. It also seems that is what you need to launch the game. ROM is not the same thing as a RW drive. If you follow the instructions properly to create the log and use the correct kind of drive as stated in my link it says "The program will now generate an 'AnalysisLog.sr0' file within the root of your C:\ directory." To find the file either do a search for the above file or go to My Computer and double click the C drive. It will not be in any sub folders. The next step would be to send the log and/or contact them. It does appear that SecuROM has a very aggressive policy and security controls so you either have to jump through the hoops, contact them to complain or try to get your money back.

Hi keith; Give this a try and see if it works. Go into the BIOS and disable boot from USB. Set the boot order to boot from HDD first. Next remove all USB devices and reboot.

I looked at the Ferrari 1000 series manual and it seems that on your particluar Acer you will have needed to make the disks. Most of the time Acer has the option to recover from a partition but I didn't see it your manual. This might explain the low size of it but I'm not sure. If you do have that option Alt and F10 should work as mentioned by zinglebarb. It's possible that your e-recovery is meant to only make the disks and then work in conjunction with the data aka drivers etc on the partion. As is often the case the disks will only work in conjunction with the original drive on some brands of computers. Acer recovery options vary but whatever your options it would be the best course. I can't tell you how many acer manuals I've viewed and the options are not only different but often times the info they supply is just wrong. That doesn't say much for Acer support. As such zinglebarb may be correct. Do not attempt to use the disks that are not for your computer whatever you do. Please let us know what your recovery options are if you have any.

Windows 7 Tips and Tricks.
RandyL replied to Jelly Bean's topic in Guides / Tutorials / Tips and Tricks
Looking through it I see some changes in Windows 7 that look like an improvement. Nice tips Jelly Bean. -
To my knowledge no. However this appears to be basic system files that are damaged. Considering all the issues that we know about the only way to rule this out is to do a complete reinstall. Besides MU suggested that for long term security and corruption this would be the best course. It's doubtful this is just a profile corruption but there is a chance it is something else. Short of replacing hardware for no apparent reason the best course is to reinstall. A fair question you asked though. In some situations it is the case.
-
Is this the original disk? It does seem that you are not alone. The log file will be created in the root directory of your computer. Look in C: It will not be an any sub directories of C:

I can think of a few reasons why this happened but you really should follow our guide anyway. Once infected it's best to play it safe. Once you do all the scans and are sure you are clean and your system is performing well look at the last step about System Restore. You wouldn't want it to come back.
-
I agree with wellies. Backup then reinstall. There have been many hands in your computer before you came to us. Besides this would rule out hardware saving you money on useless paid tech support. I have my suspicions but since you haven't supplied a log as requested by jelly bean it's hard to say. As far as your reinstallation options it depends. Did you make recovery disks? Does your Acer have the recovery option installed? Will your vendor provide the disks? Does Acer provide the disks for your model and number? Upon further research it seems you need to make and use the recovery disks for your model as wolfeymole has asked you. Have you done so as he as asked? The reason I ask matt is that I don't think you have a hardware issue. In spite of the fact that you don't visit dodgey web sites you have classic signs of multiple infections not a super virus. I suspect that your period of running unprotected is a major part of that. Do as jelly bean and wolfeymole have asked please. Backup, make the recovery disks and supply the log.

I wish I could watch and listen to what I like. Instead I'm forced into things like this. The latest one I've heard a thousand times. And that's just this week. You can thank my grandson for this. -
If you have burned it as an iso image you need to insert the disk and reboot. It will then boot from the disk and you can run it from there. You can not run the file once you are booted into Windows.

Yes ajy0903 the staff is aware of how to zoom attachments. That is why they are staff. As they are really busy they don't always have the time to jump through hoops and type the error codes from the pictures. In your case you should know that as it seems you just stated how to do it for our benifit. But yet you did not type it in the first time. Anyway it matters not if you are berating us on that aspect. The fact remains that on another thread you were rude more then once to both staff and a member. Therefore this thread is also closed as you are now a banned member for repeated rudeness on the other thread. Have a nice day.
