Adobe flashplayer 10 will NOT install
RandyL replied to caskin's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
That quote by me is wrong. If you look at my post I suggested to try running the uninstaller in safemode. We have to get rid of flash in order to install flash. Only the uninstaller can do this easily. Try running the uninstaller in safemode and hope for the best. -
I honestly never heard of this software but that is not unusual. You could try doing a System Restore. After that you could try deleting all the Temp files from that directory before reinstalling. Try a System Restore first.

So I have heard. Hopefully I'll get a chance to travel more as the wife retires this year.

Yes we do at times my fellow American.

If you want to be SURE to save your files you should back them up NOW. Since you can't boot into Windows you will need to pull your hard drive and slave it to another computer or get a ide usb caddy so you can get your files off of it. I know this may not be so easy for you. The next step is to try to repair Windows. If that does not work reinstall. But if you reinstall your files will be lost unless they are backed up. The two CD's you have are likely what you need for a complete reinstallation. There is one other thing you can try to repair your Windows. I however can not check it as it is for your computer only. Recovery - Recovery Boot Disk Creator - 6945490100 - Downloads - I MEDIA 5064 - P700401801 - iMedia VL - platform_clipper_imediaVL - Desktop However it is likely that it will only reinstall Windows from a partition on your drive. Not repair it. Therefore your files will be lost if they are not backed up.

Sorry Tootech. It looks like we cross posted.

Hi apt; Early on you said you tried safe mode and last known good configuration. The options you saw there is what the tapping of the F8 or F10 keys at startup would bring up depending on what computer you have. What is the make, model and number of your PC by the way? It sounds like your startup files are corrupted. There are many causes for that including a hard drive that is failing. Not being able to even start up in safe mode is not a good sign. A startup repair is an option based on your model of computer or whether or not you have a full retail version of Vista as opposed to just a set of recovery disks. I doubt that you will have the Vista Recovery Environment available to you in order to do a Repair. Either way we need to know: 1. Make, Model, Number of your PC. 2. What does it say on your Windows disks? 3. Do you have any Windows Disks? 4. Do you have any data you need to save such as pictures or documents? For the time being don't worry about the BIOS or POST screen since you appear to have got past that since you tried safemode and last known good configuration.

It has been brought to my attention that you have also posted on another forum about your first two issues prior to posting here. Please do not do that as it wastes the valuable time of the volunteers on different forums to have them both working on the same problem at the same time. Further as noted on the other forum when you used a different cable your problem appeared fixed. So in fact there was no need to post exactly the same thing here. Had we known these things we could have avoided using our resources needlessly. In any case as near as I can tell by this thread and the ones on the other forum your first two issues appear to be resolved. Therefore to eliminate reduntant man hours here and there I'm going to close this thread

Adobe flashplayer 10 will NOT install
RandyL replied to caskin's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
It is possible that a program is running that depends on flash. I've never tried this with the flash uninstaller but see if it will uninstall in safemode. If it does reboot and go offline before running the installer. -
Hi mrs d; Are you capturing from a vhs recorder player or are you capturing from a vhs type cam-corder? If it's the latter is it on their supported hardware list? AVS4YOU >> AVS Video Recorder >> Devices Tested with AVS Video Recorder Personally I'm converting my vhs tapes to dvd by using a dvd recorder which is very cheap to purchase. Once saved in dvd movie format I can view them on my pc. Windows Movie Maker can also convert them to another format. Have you tried that?

Hi jb; In all honesty this has the signs of an infection. Are you having any other issues? I would suggest you carefully and fully follow the steps in our guide. Your computer appears to be infected with Malware. Malware is software designed to infiltrate or damage a computer system without the owner's informed consent. It is a combination of the words malicious and software. The expression is a general term used by computer professionals to mean a variety of forms of hostile, intrusive, or annoying software or program code. It is in your best interest to note the following: Please disable your resident security applications (such as AVG, Spybot, WinPatrol, etc.) before performing the below procedure so that they do not interfere with the process. Perform all the steps in the order listed to avoid any conflicts. If unsure, please stop and voice your doubts. You might be required to go offline during the disinfection process. Therefore, it is recommended to print off the instructions below for ease of reference. If you stick to the above guidelines, all should go smoothly. ================================================ STEP 1 Download ATF-Cleaner by Atribune. Save the file to your Desktop. Double-click on the file to run the program. On the Main tab, check the Select All button. Next, click on the Firefox tab (if applicable) and check the Select All button. Note: If you would like to preserve your saved passwords in Firefox, then click No at the corresponding prompt. Now, click on the Opera tab (if applicable) and check the Select All button. Note: If you would like to preserve your saved passwords in Opera, then click No at the corresponding prompt. Press the Empty Selected button and click OK to acknowledge the corresponding prompt. Click on the Exit button to quit the program. ================================================ STEP 2 Please click here to download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. Save the file to your Desktop. Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program. At the end, make sure a check mark is placed next to: Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware [*]Click Finish. [*]The program will download and update itself if it finds the necessity to do so. Please allow this. [*]Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan. Note: Depending on your computer specifications, the scan may take some time to complete. Please wait patiently and do not interrupt the process. [*]When the scan is complete, click OK, and then Show Results to view the results. [*]Make sure that every entry is selected, and click Remove Selected. [*]Restart your computer. ================================================ STEP 3 Please click here to download SUPERAntiSpyware (Free Version). Save the file to your Desktop. Double-click SUPERAntiSpyware.exe and follow the prompts to install the program. Open SUPERAntiSpyware. Under Configuration and Preferences, click the Preferences button. Click the Scanning Control tab. Under Scanner Options make sure the following fields checked: [*]Click the Close button to leave the control center screen. [*]On the main screen, under Scan for Harmful Software click Scan your computer. [*]On the left, make sure you check mark All the Fixed Drives. [*]On the right, under Complete Scan, choose Perform Complete Scan. [*]Click Next to start the scan. Please be patient while it scans your computer. [*]After the scan is complete, a Scan Summary box will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click OK. [*]Make sure every entry has a check mark next to it and click Next. [*]A notification will appear that Quarantine and Removal is Complete. Click OK and then Finish to return to the main menu. [*]Restart your computer. ================================================ STEP 4 Please visit the ESET Online Scanner, using Internet Explorer to initiate the scan. Note: If you are running Windows Vista, then you will need Administrative privileges to complete the latter part of the procedure. To do so, right-click on the Internet Explorer icon in the Start Menu and select the Run As Administrator option in the shell context menu. Check mark the YES, I accept the Terms of Use box. Click the Start button. Click the Install button on the following screen. Click Start. This will will initialize and update the scanner engine. Check mark the box beside Remove found threats. Click the Scan button. This will start the scan. Please be patient while it is in progress. Restart your computer. ================================================ STEP 5 Click on Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools and select System Restore. Choose the radio button marked Create a Restore Point on the first screen and click Next. Give the restore point a name then click Create. The new point will be stamped with the current date and time. Keep a note of this so you can find it easily should you need to use System Restore. Next, click on Start > Run, type Cleanmgr and click on OK. Click on the More Options tab. Click the Clean Up button in the System Restore section to remove all previous restore points except the most recent one. This will remove any infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in "System Restore" are protected to prevent any programs changing those files. This is the only foolproof way to ensure the deletion of those files. Note: Do not clear restore points on a regular basis as doing so will clear all previous restore points even those that you may need. System Restore is a useful tool to revert your computer back to a working condition if something goes wrong. Re-enable all your security applications and please return here and tell us how the computer seems to be operating. Close browsers before scanning Scan for tracking cookies Terminate memory threats before quarantining

Hi densil; Is this on the same computer after you got it back from the shop? Is this an unrelated problem? I ask because new topics should be posted in a new and different thread.

Window Vista Home Edition Booting Problem
RandyL replied to dreadprinz's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
I'm confused here. Your profile says you have XP. You posted in the Vista section. What version of Windows did you have when you bought it as you seem to be using an XP installation disk and are trying to do a Vista upgrade installation. I'm just wondering if you need to reinstall XP then need to run a Vista upgrade disk. -
And that is as it should be. Monitoring any activity on a different computer other then your own is considered spyware unless the owner consents to it. If the other owner consents to the installation then it should not be an issue for them to also consent to you viewing the usage while on their computer. Obviously there are exceptions such as an employer monitoring users on a network but specialized software exists for that and in such a case the computers and the network belong to the employer and not the user. Employees agree to such a policy in advance when using a company network. As stated you should check with the ISP to see what they can offer you but be aware they are not going to give out information unless the account is in your name. I only bring this up because we wouldn't want it to appear that FPCH would aid or condone installing or using anything that might be considered or used as spyware.

Hi tks22; Since this computer is so new and you hardly added any programs can you give us an exact list of the programs you added. Have you taken any steps to try and fix this problem and if so what have you done. Since it acts up in safemode too this might be hardware related but answer my questions first please just in case it is not. The good thing is if it is hardware you should still be under warranty.

Adobe flashplayer 10 will NOT install
RandyL replied to caskin's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi Caskin; There is a wealth of informatiom on Flash Player Help and Support. It's hard to say what exaxctly your issue is but I notice they have an Alert at the moment that seems to pertain to your issue. There are a lot of steps to take depending on what the issue is in your particular case so follow them carefully to the letter. -

DVDRW not recognised/cannot boot from disk
RandyL replied to dori2o's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
So you were infected. Normally I would suggest our cleanup. However after using multiple registry cleaners I suggest a reinstall as you have attempted. Registry cleaners do more harm then good. I'm not surprised that you have other problems. Your DVD drive does not show up in Windows and you couldn't use it to back up. You tried to run your installation disk from within Windows. You can not do that. You set the BIOS to boot from DVD. But yet your original Vista disk is not detected once you put it in and rebooted. Is that correct? If so you need to replace your DVD drive as it should read the original bootable Vista disk that came with your computer. -
I doubt it Guzzle. It's just to old and the formats have changed too much. There may be work arounds such as dual booting but not third party applications. Although others may have more on this. You could try running the exe file in compatability mode but if it was for Windows 95 or 98 I doubt that too. I miss some of my old software too.

Hi Trazza; Can you confirm a few things for the staff and members please? Is it IE7 or IE8 or both that shuts down the web page when you try to connect? If so what is the web page, that is, your home page? Or is it your computer crashes when you start IE? You said you tried System Restore. Did System Restore complete but it made no difference? That is it did revert to IE7 or IE6 or both but you still encounter a problem as in above. Was XP Service Pack 3, SP3 installed first? Was Java updated recently? I've seen problems with the latest Java update causing IE to close web pages. Especially when IE8 was installed. However the Java update appears to close the Firefox browser too on some sites. Do you have any third party popup blockers? There are a lot of problems with IE8 and XP at the moment for some people but for others it works just great. It is supposed to be a more secure browser so if it works well for you it might be best to keep it. Third party program issues and some web pages and uninstall issues abound so you may want to leave well enough alone unless you end up confronting a complete reinstall of Windows. Install Firefox as Maynard suggested anyway just to see.
