  1. OK all the settings on each account are the same. You can send mail on that account. You can not receive mail on that account. You have set up the account on another computer and the same thing happens. I assume you mean you have trouble receiving mail on just that one account and not the others on the different PC. My first thought was that you had somehow set up an Outlook Express Rule to block any incoming mail from that account. You can check that by going to Tools>Message Rules>Mail. However since you setup the account on a different comp I doubt you created such a rule there. If your POP or SMTP settings are wrong you would get an error but you didn't mention that so rule that out. If this information is correct then I would rule out this being an OE problem. Since this only started recently and it exists on two different computers exactly the same then I would suspect it to be something on both computers that probably is not directly related to OE. Do you have any third party spam blocking software installed on both computers? Or any other software on both computers that might be blocking the mail from that account for that matter? Like BeeCeeBee I suspect that a setting is not right. When you match up the settings make sure they are all the same under every tab. Click on properties for that account and check every single setting for every single tab. Look carefully for more options. Check the settings on the different PC against one of the working accounts. It really does boil down to a setting or a rule or third party software blocking it.
  2. I'll try to get you close mtav. If you are using the windows printscreen save it to paint by opening Paint and copy. Then save it as a jpeg file. Since you have Vista the snipping tool should work too and save it as a jpeg. Once saved don't use quick reply. Instead click on the green button that says "Post Reply" at the bottom left of the thread. Scroll down to the "Manage Attachments" buttons and click that. Click the "Browse" button and navigate to the picture. Click to highlight it and click the "Open" button. Click the "Upload" button. The picture should now appear at the point in your post you attached it.
  3. BJD could you please start a new thread on this as it is unrelated to the topic at hand. Thanks.
  4. It could be just a coincidence that this happened while watching a movie that is dubious or it might be that it was infected or worse still. Without knowing all the details of the movie, file types or programs or the source of it it's impossible to even guess. Of course our rules will not allow us to help with such a movie or software as it is considered to be pirated. All I can suggest at this time is to reinstall the nvidia graphics drivers or update them and hope for the best.
  5. Hi mtav; It sure sounds like something is waking up your computer. One likely suspect is your NIC card. It might be waking up to refresh your network state so try this: Open Device Manager by right clicking Computer and clicking the Properties tab and select Device Manager. Locate your network device. Right click it and select Properties. Click on the Power Management tab and make sure the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power is checked. Click OK. The other option here is the Allow this device to wake the computer. With the first option checked this option should not cause a problem and can remain checked. You may want to test it though. You might have to change the BIOS too if there is a wakeup on LAN or any other wakeup set in there but try the first option first. After that check the properties of other devices in device manager to see if there is a Power Management option to allow the device to wake up the computer. For instance your mouse might be sensitive and is waking it up. But like I said try the NIC card controller first as it's the most likely culprit. On another note some computer models have their own Power Management plan but that would be specific to a model and usually a laptop.
  6. Roger have you actually updated the drivers yet? You said you downloaded some but you never said if you installed them.
  7. John the techs and members will look at this but it does appear you can handle up to 3GB. Likely the max is 1GB per slot but I would wait for them to confirm that. In the mean time it wouldn't hurt to check that out as it might just be a case of a bad slot. Almost 5:00 am here John. Actually it's been pretty warm here lately. 15 degrees Fahrenheit or -9.4 Celsius. I can't complain. lol
  8. Hi john; Thanks for all the information. It seems everything is supported and you did say that by themselves each stick works just fine. Have you tried using just one stick in slot one? Then in slot 2? Then in slot 3?
  9. Hi ryeman; How long has this been happening? I ask because it's displaying classic symptoms of a dialer program being installed. Have you checked your phone bill for any long distance charges? What programs did you use to check for malicious software.
  10. When Bitdefender found the Trojan did it ask you if you wanted to quarantine or clean the file? Did you select an option? Did it say the file could not be quarantined or something similar?
  11. Sukar I have asked you about audio or video softare and you said no to Nero but failed to mention mkv2vob. mkv2vob and the k-lite codec pack have been known to cause these issues. You just said you still have Utorrent and I see you have winrar too. I have asked you to remove any torrent programs and you said you did. You are probably using winrar to unrar torrents which is dangerous enough considering what you have been downloading. Since you have not been completely honest here I'm going to quote rule 4 from our rules. References, questions, signatures or subjects posted with regard to or containing software cracks, rips, hacks, warez, porn, non-genuine, pirated and illegal software etc, may be removed, the thread closed and the originating poster possibly being banned. This thread is closed.
  12. Since you recently put in a new hard drive you had to reinstall Windows on it. What kind of Windows disk is this? Did it come with your computer? Since you recently put in a new hard drive you probably haven't installed much software yet. Can you tell us what third party software you have installed even though it is not "recent". A startup repair may or may not work so if you could please answer those questions we'll look into it. Please give as much detail as you can in your answers.
  13. It appears that it's been turned off then. First things first though. Since you were getting errors before this anyway I suggest to hang on while we review this. It seems all these errors relate to software most likely or an additional hardware device. Audio or video editing or burning software like Nero may be to blame. Can you tell us what programs you have that might relate? As a side note I would make sure all your files are backed up to an external media source just in case or in case you need to reinstall.
  14. By System Restore I mean restore it to a point when it worked. You would not have to have made a restore point as Vista creates one every 24 hours automatically. It's extremely hard to change that setting. If you have not turned off System Restore you can run it by going to Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore. It might take a couple minutes to bring it up so be patient. This will not restore your computer to it's original state when you first got it. That is a system recovery or reinstall. This will just back it up to the date you choose. If it doesn't work you can un-do the restore using the same applet.
  15. Hi sukar; I'm glad you uninstalled those programs. However I'm concerned that you are engaging in habits that are unsafe. Try doing a System Restore to before you installed those. If that works I would suggest you uninstall any and all games or programs that were not obtained legitimately. Also did you get that game from a torrent site as they can be notoriously problematic. If you do have a torrent program remove that also.
  16. Hi richard; If you have Windows Media Player 10 on Vista you do indeed have a media problem as Vista ships with version 11. Version 10 is not supported on Vista. You talk of opening AOL and also accessing your email sign in screen. We need to be clear here. Are you using AOL? When you say opening AOL do you mean opening the AOL AIM Instant Messenger? Is the email you mention the AOL web based mail? You say you checked the advanced internet settings in all the accounts to see if they were the same. But are you using and talking about the AOL Explorer browser or Internet Explorer 7 browser and which one do you actually use? Are those "system updates" actually Windows Updates? I can't find anything on those so if it is Windows Updates you really do have a problem because they don't appear to be legit. As for AOL issues you will find support almost non existent anywhere except AOL itself as they live in their own little world but of course we can try to find something. That fact that the other three accounts all seem to have suddenly developed the same problems means this probably isn't a case of a corrupt account profile. But to me it's a clue. As is can't open AOL Aim is a clue. And those updates might be a clue too. You don't mention security on your PC but either way you do have some signs that your computer may be infected with malware. I think it would be wise to follow our guide in it's entirety. Your computer appears to be infected with Malware. Malware is software designed to infiltrate or damage a computer system without the owner's informed consent. It is a combination of the words malicious and software. The expression is a general term used by computer professionals to mean a variety of forms of hostile, intrusive, or annoying software or program code. It is in your best interest to note the following: Please disable your resident security applications (such as AVG, Spybot, WinPatrol, etc.) before performing the below procedure so that they do not interfere with the process. Perform all the steps in the order listed to avoid any conflicts. If unsure, please stop and voice your doubts. You might be required to go offline during the disinfection process. Therefore, it is recommended to print off the instructions below for ease of reference. If you stick to the above guidelines, all should go smoothly. ================================================ STEP 1 Download ATF-Cleaner by Atribune. Save the file to your Desktop. Choose the radio button marked Create a Restore Point on the first screen and click Next. Give the restore point a name then click Create. The new point will be stamped with the current date and time. Keep a note of this so you can find it easily should you need to use System Restore. Next, click on Start > Run, type Cleanmgr and click on OK. Click on the More Options tab. Click the Clean Up button in the System Restore section to remove all previous restore points except the most recent one. This will remove any infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in "System Restore" are protected to prevent any programs changing those files. This is the only foolproof way to ensure the deletion of those files. Note: Please don't use it on a regular basis as this will clear all previous restore points. The feature might be very useful to revert your computer to working condition if something goes wrong. Re-enable all your security applications and please return here and tell us how the computer seems to be operating. 17. Hi dina; Why do you think you need to install this? It can be risky business as something might go wrong. It might not solve your problem at all so it would be better if we knew what issue you have. I'm going to link you to where you can download this without a scan but be advised that we are not responsible should it not go well and may not solve your problem. ECS Web Site
  18. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MIKE PARTY ON
  19. Hi pete; How do you know she has a good internet connection? We really should make sure of that first. How does she connect to the internet? After we establish a few facts there are a couple things to try. Reset IE Defaults and see if that works. Install the FireFox browser and see if that works. Of course she will have to download it from another computer and put it on a disk to install it.
  20. Hi james; Is this the driver you downloaded? 181.22_geforce_winvista_32bit_english_whql.exe
  21. Cass you could try updating FireFox to the newest version if you have not already. Also it might be a FirefFox add-on. Try removing any of those. Also you could try uninstalling and reinstalling FireFox.
  22. Hi Cass; Although this is not likely the issue it might not hurt to rule out a mouse issue by trying a new one. Also do you have this same problem if you use Internet Explorer version 6 or 7?
  23. Hi loli; The first issue is likely your CMOS battery needs replacing which is very easy and cheap to do. A slow computer can be caused by different things. A failing drive, too many startup items and malware come to mind. What is the make, model and number of your PC? How old is it? Is it a laptop? Do you have an antivirus and if so what? Why are you prompted to press F2? More info will help the team and members help you.
  24. Hi david; The short term solution is to choose Task Manager and under the Application tab end the browser session. To exit the net entirely you need to turn off your computer or sever the connection via a modem or router button or pulling their plugs if you are not on dialup. What concerns me is you say this happens a lot which is not normal. Post more details on your setup and hopefully someone will have some insight on why this keeps happening.
  25. Hi amy; Download and review the DVD Movie Factory User Manual. It explains a lot of things about how to capture your video to a full size DVD or your hard drive. It seems you can also capture from DVD using it. Windows Movie maker will not capture DVD format movie disks nor will Windows DVD Movie Maker as these deal with indivdual file types like Mpeg and such. An IFO file is an Information file and is just one of the types that is on a DVD movie disk. So you need to use specialized software such as what you have or something else like Roxio or Nero. I'm sure your software can do it or there really wouldn't be a point to your camera if you couldn't get it off the mini dvd disk onto a full size one. And like I said I think you can also use it for copying from a regular DVD and your hard drive too.
