DVD's are huge. If you are putting a lot of data on it then 20 to 30 minutes is fast not slow. I've burned movies using Roxio that took a lot longer.
I don't know why burning music CD's causes a crash. Are you for sure using a CD and not a DVD?
What file type is the music source?
Where did you get the music?
Nero 9 is out so I have to ask did Nero 8 ever work and if so how long have you had it.
I am not a fan of Nero and don't have it. I'm just asking basic questions in hopes that a member will be able to help.
Well this really is a mess isn't it. First of all you're running XP under FAT32 instead of NTSF. Not a great idea and I doubt it came pre-installed that way. Couple that with the fact you say you have a partion manager of some sorts which you have not bothered to tell us what it is.
But look at the facts here. You have not read the pdf manual or you would understand the options available to you. The options are:
1. Backup an image you might have made.
Did you do that before as outlined in the manual. You have to read the manual in order to reply.
2. Restore to factory settings from disks you created.
It seems you have not created them properly or it would not be asking for disk 2 which you don't have. Again it is outlined in the manual.
3. Restore to factory settings by pressing Alt+F10 at startup before it boots into Windows.
Had you read the manual you would have seen the correct procedure for doing this.
4. Contact Acer for the recovery disks if you have not made them or not properly.
This may or may not be an option. That's up to Acer.
5. Buy a full version of XP.
1 and 2 appear not to be an option. 3 might work if you try it properly. 4 is anybodies guess. 5 is an option.
We don't have a clue if it's the drive as you have not fully explored the options or detailed aditional errors or exact steps or exactly what you have done.
If it is the drive you will need to replace it and re-install Windows to it by using the Recovery Disks or purchasing XP. Different brands have different options. Contact Acer on this.
Installing Windows on an external drive with Recovery disks is not going to work. Especially since you don't have the second disk.
Read everything we have supplied including the manual and your options will be clear. The solutions are here. There is nothing more we can add.
Sincerely RandyL
It sounds to me like that is the default "Music" folder and that you only managed to rename it to "Music2". Even if you later deleted the folder it is being recreated when called upon.
Keep in mind that in Vista the "Music" folder is not a sub folder of "Documents" like it used to be. It has it's own directory under C:\Users\UserName
So if your current "Music" folder is in "Documents" then it is just a folder you created and not the default Vista one. As such applications like a playlist or the samples will use the default one.
If you have not deleted it again it should show up in the registry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders
If I were you I would check to see if the path of "Music2" is indeed C:\Users\UserName and then transfer all your files into that directory. Followed by renaming it to "Music".
You can change the location but a simpler solution to accessing the folder from Documents is to just create a shortcut there.
Thanks.
I edited my post so please read it again.
We have a very good guide to cleaning your system should you need it in the future.
I also suggest that you look at Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help Recommended Security products
Glad to hear you are up and running.
What method worked Clipper?
Also at this time we would like to ask why you needed to reinstall. Perhaps we can help you avoid going through this again.
I would also like to add that if your system allows making backup disks that you should do so immediately as wolfeymole suggested. You can not always depend on the hard drive partition to do the backup. If not I suggest you contact Dell and order a set of disks.
Thanks for getting back to us. We appreciate it.
Download the pdf file owners manual and check the Trouble Shooting Tools>Restoring your operating system.
It appears that you might have the Dell PC Restore by Symantec. If so on bootup when you see the blue bar press Cntr/F11 and follow the prompts.
Hi stylianou;
I have thoroughly reread every post in that thread and in your previous thread when you still had this laptop. I will attempt to explain.
I firmly believe that there is no longer a valid OS on it due to what noose or the shop may have done such as failed formats and reinstallation.
Either way this computer is long overdue for a complete reinstallation. Short term solutions are not the way to go and I doubt if it is possible.
Any XP recovery disks for this model would have the sata drivers on them. The fact that they don't implies that these disks are incorrect for what ever reason. noose even said they were the wrong ones.
noose needs to obtain the proper recovery disks for that model and do the install. We can not help with installing from the wrong disks as this violates our rules.
We have spent a lot of time on this and got a lot of confusing information but have finally reached the conclusion that noose needs to get these disks from fujitsu even though it will cost money. There is no other viable solution.
I'm sorry but not all solutions are free. Besides it is important to have these disks anyway.
noose it would seem that there is no operating system on it at all. First you said your brother downgraded it and now you say it came with XP on it.
Either way you need to install an OS. There is only one way to do that. Buy the disks.
I hope you get the right one this time. If you order the wrong one you might be out money needlessly. Personally I would spend the extra 25 pounds and buy from fujitsu. At least then you are assured of getting the right one this time.
Also note that you will still need your license key that hopefully is still attached to your computer.
bob12a what wolfeymole posted was from the help section of firetunes.
I assume your question on backup refers to the help section listed above. Specifically the section Known problems:
If so then in the Run box type %appdata%\mozilla\firefox\Profiles
Open the folder there and copy the file
prefs.js
JScript Script File
to another location of your choosing.
In the BIOS change the boot order to boot from the optical drive first rather then the hard drive first. Save the changes and exit the BIOS. Install Windows from the disks.
Your getting the error because there is nothing on the hard drive to find until you install Windows.
I'm still using version 2 while you are probably using version 3. It's working fine for me though. Have you tried removing all of the add-ons to see what happens?
