  1. Word and Powerpoint are Microsoft Office programs. After the reinstall of Windows you will need to install Word, Powerpoint or the full Microsoft suite. As an alternative you can install the free Open Office which can also read and edit those files.
  2. I hope we can help.
  3. Hi and welcome.
  4. While you are waiting for advice it might be a good idea to change your operating system to Windows 7 because in your profile it says DOS. Thanks.
  5. SmartWeb printing might be related to HP printer/scanner software. It is on mine.
  6. The problems you describe have nothing to do with the operating system. The fact it ran ok after a full reinstall proves that. It's probably the programs you installed or your "cleaning: methods. Cleaning registry files for example is a recipe for disaster. As far as malware goes there are hundreds of ways to get infected and not all prevention programs are equal nor foolproof. As suggested read the vista specs. You're going to need a whole lot more than just RAM. Better off buying new. Also as suggested if one were to attempt an upgrade go with 7. For that matter run the Windows 7 upgrade advisor. There's not much difference between the two.
  7. Thanks Starbuck. It's to bad people don't take the time to remove such posts from their wall after the fact. Pople quit clicking on everything you see on facebook.
  8. I agree. Sorry about that. I noticed this question has been asked on other forums. Too bad they didn't find the link. :) Tagging threads is a function we reserve for moderators on this forum. That's why you could not find it. Best wishes Sesbastian.
  9. I'm afraid there is no way to do that. Viewing message size-Gmail Help
  10. I can't rememember if Windows Mail in Vista shows an outbox in the folder structure but if it does try deletig from there. If not go to Control Panel>Folder options>View. In hidden files and folders tic to show. Apply>OK. Navigate to C:\Users\[username]/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Windows Mail Look for Outbox and delete any messages in it. It might also be in a different folder there like gmail sent items. In Outlook Express you could even delete the Outbox folder there and Windows would rebuild it at startup although it would give a warning first. I highly suggest making sure you have a system restore point set first just in case. Also keep in mind that I am using Windows Live Mail not Windows Mail or Outlook Express.
  11. The only thing I can think of is to just not download the messages to your email account until you get more bandwith. Keep in mind though you are still using bandwidth if you are using web base mail and opening there or opening attachments etc. There should be the option in Outlook Express to uncheck "Send and recieve messages at startup". However if you open OE it still may send and receive. I'm not currently on a computer with OE so I can't check other options at the moment. Look under Tools>Options.
  12. Emails if they are only text are small files. However the attachments will count against your drive space. I assume you use a mail client like Windows Mail. If so those attachments are stored on your drive. If you delete the contents of the inbox, sent items and deleted items folder they will be gone.
  13. Hi Mr. Bill.
  14. Another thing to check with outgoing and incoming mail is SSL This server requires a secure connection. Some isp's use it and some don't so you have to check their settings.
  15. Are there any problems showing in device manager?
  16. Jelly Bean posted this; How to install Windows using a USB Pen Drive and WinToFlash. I've removed your email address so the spam harvesters don't get it and flood your inbox.
  17. I think you might have missed part of Dalo's post. A USB keyboard might not work as well.
  18. I've had some luck in the past deleting stubborn folders from safemode. Worth a try.
  19. Can you get into safemode? If so try doing a system restore prior to the update.
  20. I don't know. Perhaps if you can link us to the program and where you got it we can research it. Unknown game and file type for me.
  21. 2000 is old so the computer is old too. I'm thinking that even with sp3 or sp4 installed the mobo and bios just won't recognize it. Most did not support it back then. Just because the other computer which was newer and had a newer OS saw the full size does not mean this relic will ever see it. Even if it did had the proper mobo and the sp updates (possibly a regedit too) it will in my opinion never see more than 137Gb. Honestly, write it off or get newer.
  22. Do you know for a fact that the used optical drive was in working order?
  23. Which sounds like a second monitor was set up at one time. Try right clicking the desktop and select "Personalize" to access the Display>Adjust resolutions settings. If that fails to open correctly try safemode. Maybe even do a system restore from within safemode.
  24. It might be that you're set up to run a secondary monitor. Look at the screen resolutions in display in control panel to check.
  25. Good deal. Thanks for letting us know. I'm glad it wasn't something worse.
