  1. Italy seems to be on a rampage to block illegal file sharing right now. The country’s largest torrent tracker, Colombo BT, was shut down a few weeks ago and it seems authorities have now moved to prevent access to The Pirate Bay. Italian ISPs have bowed to pressure from the IFPI and are taking a series of measures to block the site, but the infamous torrent tracker is not going down without a fight. While the site’s IPs and domain name are completely inaccessible across the country, the admins over at TPB have enacted a few countermeasures to ensure Italians can still access their site. For starters, they’ve already changed the IP for the site which, according to them, should make it “work for half the ISPs again.” They are also recommending Italian folks to use the URL Labaia.org – which means “the bay” in Italian – and switch their DNS to OpenDNS to bypass their ISP's filters. In the end, the blockade may very well prevent some folks from using The Pirate Bay in Italy, but it will also provide free publicity likely accompanied by a bump in the number of people using the service – as it has happened with previous attempts to ban the site. The Pirate Bay is also seeking assistance from Italian lawyers to help determine legal methods to make the site available in Italy again. Is this the future of things to come?
  2. You were asking how it related to your post Seth - I answered - Nod32 has detected the other 3 items and on that basis will remove them.
  3. I agree with Maynard there are lots of people reporting issues with Zshare and it's only with - BT, Virgin and Talk Talk ISP's up to now. alledgedly over a 1000 people have been affected all UK users.
  4. Wolfey means that upon installation that NOD32 will check for spyware/malware, viruses and what not. Therefore additional programs are not needed.
  5. Hi, and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help Could be a number of things - Sony for one are a pain in the behind as the sticks are specific to Sony devices. Do you have a printer with an SD slot? does your camera store photos on an SD or on the camera itself. when you drag them onto the PC do they continue to do the flashing? Also what are you viewing the pics with - windows or another program like NERO?
  6. Randy when I did mine it was not that long ago - when I first joined the forum looking for a reason for my AW9D MAX would not work with a Q6600 - I bought the Q6600 as an upgrade and the board didnt like it - I then bought an ASUS MOBO and as such did a reinstall - I only ever buy OEM as the 'support' you get from MS is not worth the extra cash IMO. so I tried putting my CD key and it said no basically - called the number and I didnt say anything - she then gave me a number to put in - did that and hey presto done.
  7. Agreed and RAM can also an issue -
  8. Considering most of the worlds Malware and Virus's are submitted via these type of programs then I am not surprised that ISP's are blocking them -
  9. Honestly mate - even if you have an OEM they will do it - I had to redo mine on Vista after a complete rebuild. I called them and she didn't ask anything and just did it all while I was there - obviously this was only my experience. Unsure of the number - it was on the screen at install
  10. It is less of an issue now Randy - 99% when you install the OS its fine and if not then you just need to bell MS and they sort it in 2 minutes for you
  11. It depends if the Sound card was installed by Dell or someone else - if it was by Dell the chances are they plugged it into the Sound card - anyone else would most likely plug it into the MOBO - the soundcard will be far better than the onboard sound of the MOBO - if you are getting static in one of the speakers its just the connection - make sure that they are all connected properly and snug - they normally sound like what you describe when they are slightly loose.
  12. UPDATED Intel confirms Core i7 branding for Nehalem Late last week we heard some rumours that Intel’s upcoming processors based on the Nehalem platform would be dubbed Core i7. The chip maker has now confirmed such claims saying its next-generation processors will indeed bear the established “Core” brand, though not all of its variations will carry the i7 identifier. Apparently the i7 identifier will be applied to the first set of high-end desktop processors, including a black label “Extreme Edition” version targeted at enthusiasts that will probably boast extra features such as an unlocked multiplier for improved overclocking headroom. Intel’s choice of the i7 moniker may seem arbitrary (Nehalem is not Intel’s seventh-generation architecture as some speculated) but will reportedly fit into the naming scheme for the full line of chips when additional products along with new identifiers are introduced. The company is expected to reveal more information about Core i7 at the Intel Developer Forum on August 19, where it also plans to discuss a new energy saving technique used in the new chips.
  13. My ideal PC, I would choose a Volvo:- Safe and reliable - unlike MS :D Power in bundles - T5 anyone :)
  14. It is also a good idea to not have any of the HDD power cables linking through to other devices ie fans - and if you are using a splitter too - take it off some PSU's really struggle to supply the devices with power from the rails if you have a lot of splitters and cables that cross through.
  15. If you have not changed the PC in anyway then I doubt that any programs would be causing the problem in msconfig. jusr try some basics like clearing internet cookies and temp files - and then CHECK to see the defragmentation of the HDD (do not run one unless the pc is over 40% fragged)
  16. VIA is now focusing on x86 processors and the integrated motherboard market, rather than chipsets for third-party CPUs Previously one of the best chipset makers for enthusiasts looking for high performance on a budget, VIA has said that it now sees no future in making chipsets for third parties such as Intel and AMD. VIA’s vice president of corporate marketing in Taiwan, Richard Brown, explained that: ‘One of the main reasons we originally moved into the x86 processor business was because we believed that ultimately the third party chipset market would disappear, and we would need to have the capability to provide a complete platform.’ ‘That has indeed come to pass,’ said Brown. He also added that ‘Intel provides the vast majority of chipsets for its processors and, following its purchase of ATI, AMD is also moving very quickly in the same direction.’ Rumours about VIA quitting the chipset business started to surface towards the end of last year, when DigiTimes alleged that the former president and general manager of VIA’s platform business, Chewei Lin, planned to resign and take 40 VIA chipset technicians over to ASMedia, a subsidiary of Asustek. VIA’s previously had a rocky relationship with Intel over its third-party chipsets. Back in 2001, VIA released the Apollo P4X266 chipset, which brought DDR memory support to the Pentium 4, despite not having a license from Intel. To avoid the wrath of Intel, motherboard makers produced boards based on the chipset using VIA’s name rather than their own brands. Brown commenting on VIA’s relationship with Intel saying it hadn't recovered since then, and he replied: ‘The only way I can answer that is to say that VIA and Intel are direct competitors in a very tough market. Having said that, we do have a great deal of respect for Intel not just as a competitor but also for the huge contribution they have made in driving the development of the PC industry.‘ Has VIA made the right decision, or is there still a place for third-party chipset manufacturers in the business? What's more, where does this leave other chipset makers such as SiS?.

  19. sounds like because it has restarted while still being in wondows then it has affected the OS - we are all aware this can happen but it is very rare when it does happen - you may be looking at a repair or reinstall of your OS. but we will exhaust all other possibilities first.
