Windows XP still outselling Vista

Office 2000 - thats partly the reason - get 2007 - I know it's extra expense but it's the only way. There are newer versions of all the programs you have said and as harware and OS's companies are in it to make money and they like MS they shell out new versions all the time -

I wouldn't stretch as far to say I love it - I use it, but other than that it's more stable and looks better than Windows. -

Windows XP still outselling Vista

Ok look at it from this perspective - if we took businesses out of it - do you think more people use Vista or XP? I vote Vista! Randy what software are you talking about that cannot be used on Vista, that can be on XP? -

Goku - did you find those on the net lol In terms of just being for one market - its not about that as technology advances so do the OS's and the OS drives the hardware. My point being you buy new technology when you old one dies - if you have a PC that dies - and you go and get a new one and get a choice of XP or VISTA - you go with Vista as its future proof - well as much as PC's and components are anyway :D -
No I'm on the Blueberry lol

Windows XP still outselling Vista

But it does depend what you use your PC for Goku - An avid gamer would have VISTA no questions about it for the DX10 10.1 and 11 element, but also for the fact that to play games at higher settings you need the hardware aswell. I agree that people dont want to upgrade - but we all have to at some point as technology will drag you along as components become obsolete - Pentium 2 anyone ?? (well other than Maynard lol) -

lol - I think that they have made leaps and bounds with Vista - Vista is so much better than XP - I have used both and prefer Vista from installing - (not having to mess about with SATA drivers etc) a gaming point of view (DX10 and 10.1 and 11) Saying that I do understand why BUSINESSES do not change to Vista - would be a nightmare - and why upgrade if you do not need any of the features listed above, and thats without taking cost into account in terms of time and money. -

looks very nice - some of the angles of the pictures make it look like you are a spy lol -
As we approach Vista's second birthday and distance ourselves from the launch of XP further, you might assume that Microsoft would have had enough time to make Vista attractive enough for people to prefer it over XP. DirectX 10 exclusivity, restricting vendors from selling XP, marketing campaigns and so much more, all towards Microsoft's end of making Vista de facto apparently aren't working as fast as they'd hope. According to some recent estimates, by the end of this year Vista will have been deployed in 9% of businesses and still won't reach 1/3 of the market by 2010. On top of that, factoring in downgrade licenses it seems that Windows XP is still outselling Vista. That must hurt Microsoft, especially when very large vendors have mentioned they simply will not deploy Vista, waiting instead forWindows 7. Interestingly, Windows 7 has been in the works for a while and it's been rumored more than once that it will be released next year. That's just speculation, of course, and given the dollar investment Microsoft has poured into Vista I doubt they will just sit on their hands.

**(this is to try and get the updates installed - not remove SP3)** In Windows and in the Command Prompt, copy and paste the following commands all at one time. (Note: Make sure the prompt returns and if not press Enter for the last command to execute.) regsvr32 /s wuapi.dll regsvr32 /s wuaueng1.dll regsvr32 /s wuaueng.dll regsvr32 /s wucltui.dll regsvr32 /s wups2.dll regsvr32 /s wups.dll regsvr32 /s wuweb.dll The try shutting down and see if the updates install.

I can't get on the link Maynard and you know it Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr one day.................

lol - the only differences between the retail and the OEM:- OEM - comes with NO support and NO upgrade path RETAIL comes with support and an UPGRADE path BUT you still have to pay to upgrade to the 64bit OS.......... So in a way it's cheaper to get 2 OEM's one 32 bit and then a 64bit. And why do you want ultimate - it is not necessary - there are no features that Home Premium will not provide other than for business.

Right try this one more time:- Uninstall Office 2007 using add/remove. Restart Manually go to C:/program files/microsoft office - delete the whole file. goto add/remove and remove any trace of office from there Restart check its all gone and then reinstall and try and do the updates and make sure that office is set to ALLOWED in the firewall.

MS has remained tight-lipped on the project they call “Midori” beyond confirming that it is an incubation project within the company, but some new details have emerged recently indicating it is a stripped down and modular OS that centers around the net. According to a report by the SD Times based on alleged internal documents, Midori will focus on concurrency, where computing resources can be either local or in the Internet cloud and processing tasks can be split among multiple processors and multiple machines. There has been plenty of speculation about Midori going to eventually replace Windows (perhaps one or two generations beyond Windows 7), but Microsoft hasn’t even confirmed whether it will actually be a commercial product or not. It seems more likely, though, that its features will trickle down into Windows and be implemented to further integrate the OS into the cloud.

Nvidia is making advancements to the GT200 line with the introduction of a 55nm GPU for the units. The part has now been confirmed after Nvidia made final preparations. Performance statistics should not change with the unit, but for any overclocker the process reduction will mean more room to play with.

AMD is updating its desktop platform today with the introduction of the 790GX chipset, which is targeted at the “performance” gaming segment and improves upon the lauded 780G in many ways. The new chipset is manufactured at 55nm and features an integrated Radeon HD 3300 graphics processor clocked at 700MHz with DirectX 10 support out of the box. Not only this is one of best IGP to date, but its performance can boosted further when paired with one or two discrete graphics cards. This chipset brings with it AMD’s new SB750 south bridge chip, which not only adds RAID 5 support but also an Advanced Clock Calibration (ACC) feature that AMD says allows Phenom processors to overclock higher than otherwise possible with previous boards. A processor rated at 2.5GHz, for instance, can be overclocked to run at 3.2GHz to get better performance in games. Major system makers such as Asus, Foxconn, MSI and Gigabyte Technology are supporting the new chipset, with a typical motherboard built around the 790GX expected to cost between $100 and $150.

Use a PS2 one - if you don't have one then make sure that the USB support is enabled in the BIOS
-
Even with the retail version - its not a case of choosing which one you want - you still have to pay to upgrade

You need all the new MOBO DRIVERS installing - BUT you may have issues with this as the old HDD still has the old ones on - its not just a case of removing them as Windows uses them to work your PC. There is no easy way around this but if you have checked the BIOS and all the settings are ok in terms of USB support etc. You will need to reinstall windows  -
You need to install the USB drivers that came with the NEW MOBO.

I highly recommend that people set a cmd.exe shortcut. but for less advanced users it can also be accessed by start/all programs/accessories/command prompt.
