  1. OMG - that is the most random collection of obscure laws I have ever seen. I like the needing a hunting licence for a mouse trap one :D Seattle residents may not carry concealed weapons longer than six feet. << lol - what weapon is longer than 6 feet Also in Memphis, it is illegal for a woman to drive by herself; "a man must walk or run in front of the vehicle, waving a red flag in order to warn approaching pedestrians and motorists." << A most excellent idea this should be global law, think of all the lives we would save :D
  2. depending on the motherboard - when the POST screen comes on and tells you the CPU speed and RAM installed HDD's etc (the black screen with white writing) at the bottom of the page it will tell you how to enter but its normally the delete key.
  3. NO - it doesn't overwrite anything - Whenever there is a new driver available, you must go to add/remove programs there is NVIDIA DRIVERS in there - remove them - navigate to C:/Nvidia and then delete the file - then reboot THEN install the new driver - the problem you will be having is that you will have a numerous amount of drivers all trying to run and they are basically crashing your system. Do as stated above and then reinstall the NVIDIA drivers you have (latest ones from previous)
  4. SATA no longer use MOLEX they are 7 pin SATA cables
  5. Right you CANNOT have 2 forms of GPU running so onbaord should ALWAYS be disabled if you have an add in card. Version:175.19Release Date:July 9, 2008 These are still the latest drivers for your card. I would look in the BIOS and disable the onboard VGA, save and exit. Also what process do you use to remove all the other older drivers - have you ever deleted the older ones stored in C:/Nvidia?
  6. What do you mean the RAM stopped working? Right it sounds like you have a conflict - you need to DISABLE the onboard graphics from within the BIOS - have you ever done this?
  7. Ok - when was the last time that you updated the graphics driver for the 8400GS?
  8. Just a quick note:- If it is SATA and there is more than 1 SATA port on the MOBO there will be a section in the BIOS for selecting the one that the HDD is in to the TOP OF THE LIST -
  9. Must have been a bad batch :D I fitted one the other week £50 for 600W and has braided cables etc - not modular but hey what do you want for £50 :D I find them extremely well made and the RAILS actually put out what they are rated to put out - *cough, cough* unlike some others ;)
  10. Ok - open a command window - go go start>all programs>accessories>command prompt then a black screen will appear type in dxdiag and hit ENTER
  11. If memory serves in XP, go into control panel and on the left hand side switch to classic view, there should be a BLUE BOX with a YELLOW X in it called DIRECTX double click that and then follow the instructions.
  12. If you unscrew the plate underneath the laptop the RAM will be in there - there will be a sticker on it telling you the speed and the SIZE of the RAM - eg 512MB SODIMM PC6400 (800MHz) (this is an example only) and then you just match another stick to that.
  13. Read post #28 and follow the procedure of the way you want to do it - Floppy is the easiest but not everyone has a floppy drive now.
  14. But you have to pay to get them and when you have some left over you actually lose money :D Just like in Minority Report I can see it being thumb or retinal scans next - still doesn't stop someone with a cigar cutter lopping your finger off, or poking your eye out
  15. I hate all forms of politics and governments :D
  16. Have you run a Direct X report?
  17. It's not as easy to uninstall WMP from Vista as it is from XP
  18. 3 PSU's what were you doing they have only been making them for around a year
  19. It's overclocked so I would guess PC6400 (800MHz) and thats if the Ratio is locked.
  20. Welcome Sean, Glad that you found us - :)
  21. - he just needs to make sure that the PSU is replaced first and the MOBO second - there is a much higher chance of the PSU being dead than the MOBO.
  22. There is really no way to tell what has blown unless you swap the 'suspect' components with ones that are working, BUT in doing so may inadvertantly blow those components - If the light is coming on at the front of the PC then there is power - but that power is also transmitted through the MOBO to power the light - it is possible that only some of the PSU or MOBO is damaged. But as a safety note get a new PSU and see whats what - and if that doesn't work get a new MOBO.
  23. There are less likely to be 'problems' i.e boot up issues etc with the RAM if it is added after the reinstall.
  24. Just make sure that you get the right speed RAM -
  25. I think that SSD's have a long way to go yet - the cost alone is extortionate compared to SATA and IDE drives
