  1. I have only just seen this, but 58 degrees is hot even for an 'economic' quad chip, if you can run the same diagnostic that DSTM advised and check the temps have dropped (it is very possible that the dust in the fans could be causing the high temps )
  2. Hi and welcome to FPCH :)
  3. I doubt it, laptop VGA ports are female (designed to only output to another device) you require an input VGA port on the laptop for it to work and I have never seen one....
  4. Doug, Just wanted to say congratulations mate, you are an asset to the computer forums :)
  5. While that's not legal, I hope that your key is genuine.......... If you have a dodgy copy of windows then you will have major problems
  6. No problem at all, let us know if there are any issues, but I doubt there will be :)
  7. Thanks Synapse, I didnt double check my post. Danny, I would contact ECS and see what they say, while the board may be in an ACER computer it is ALWAYS better to get any updates DIRECT from the manufacturer. GPUs for example are predominantly from either ATI or NVIDIA while there are names such as ASUS and GIGABYTE that put their own coolers and overclocks on them you still get the updates from ATI and NVIDIA, they would be listed on the ASUS and GIGABYTE sites but they are just mirrored from ATI and NVIDIA. Contact ECS as I am sure that someone else would have had the problems you have
  8. Yes I am sure it will, email addresses get hacked all the time, someone is basically accessing an account of yours (remember that some email addresses link to others/can be forwarded to others) someone has your username and password for your email account, changing the password is the best process to ensure the emails stop
  9. From the sounds of what you are saying the drive was formatted in either RAID (mirrored or striped) Either way then the array would have to be rebuilt (this is not an easy process on RAID 0 (striped) but can be done on RAID 1 (mirrored) When you used to access the drive (before the reformat) did it show as one disk?
  10. Hi and welcome to FPCH :) Please dont post a problem within an introduction, I have replied to your post
  11. This has happened to quite a few people (over several thousand) I wont give you the long version of the story, so change your Hotmail password and the emails will stop.
  12. Realtek make both onboard and add in cards. Other 3rd party companies use Realtek chips too and rebrand their own cards/boards :) So yours is onboard and the only thing you have changed is the driver? and now it doesn't work? are you sure that you installed the correct driver and where did you source the driver from?
  13. The Motherboard sits ontop of the standoffs giving it direct contact with the case. All it needs is a screw to be touching a power source (cables under/around the MOBO) and you have current going through the case. When you even slightly touch a metal object to the case (it shuts it off) Loose screws dropped behind the MOBO are also a possiblity so check that
  14. From looking at the ECS website there are BIOS updates:- ECS Web Site > Click on the downloads tab and then there are some little circle just below the download tab that say BIOS. There are 2 updates listed so go for the top one (newest) I take it you know how to update a BIOS as it can render the board useless if you do it incorrectly :(
  15. We need more detail from you Fryster, The drive you specified is a mobile drive designed for laptops. It is designed to be plugged directly into a specific type of slot used on laptops and as such has no power ports as this is provided via the 'slot' used for the data too. While in theory it should work, you may need additional software is this an exact replacement as the drive that was originally in the laptop? http://www.pacificgeek.com/productimages/xl/GSA-T20N-DO-PB-R.jpg
  16. So are you using the front panel audio or the back? have you tried both? You might have to use the Realtek control options from within Control Panel and NOT the windows configuration, and just to confirm this is onboard audio and not an add in PCI card?
  17. Hi and welcome to FPCH :)
  18. If its showing in the POST screen then it wont be the CPU, if you reset the BIOS then it all goes back to default, RAM speeds, fans at full speed etc as none of the cool n quiet technology will be enabled (as you have reset the BIOS you will have to redo any custom settings like this) Make sure that the HDD is listed in the BIOS as the 1st boot device and disable the 2nd,3rd,4th options etc. Let us know how you get on
  19. Something must be shorting inside the case, Most common are the standoffs that the MOBO sits onto. Also check that none of the PSU wiring is touching the inside of the case as in the Molex pins or something have come loose. It can be one of many things so just check the basics :)
  20. Did you pull the CMOS battery or reset the BIOS after changing the CPU? Have you checked and re checked, reapplied thermal paste etc?
  21. The sub title file should be added at the same time to the converter.
  22. But as I said above it VERY very rarely works (even if you have the data backed up) and involves purchasing another drive, so at additional cost too. Rebuilding the array is very easily, getting the Data to then copy the other data isnt. The additional data needed to go onto the new drive is in a drive that it dead... the drive that is currently working or the controller itself does not store the data you require therefore it's a lost cause, im afraid
  23. For what they are charging, you could build the system yourself. Do you have an absolute budget ? and does this have to include a monitor, an OS etc? Do you have any parts that can be re used from another PC to keep costs down or are we starting from scratch.
