  1. Have you looked inside the system at the drive itself? There could be an issue with the controller as thats not uncommon, this controller came on MOBOs but was also available as an add in card. So is the HDD attached to the MOBO or an add in card? Are there any adapters on the back of the drive too? as SCSI drives (hotswap ones) were often converted over to IDE
  2. Have you looked in device manager to see if they show in their with either yellow exclamation marks or not
  3. Is the drive a SATA or IDE drive SATA is a thin connector and IDE is a longer (about 5CM)
  4. Ok before we try anything else, go into device manager from control panel > system > device manager. and see if there are any yellow exclamation marks on the network adapters.
  5. Write protection switches are more for SD cards. 1) In My Computer, right click on the drive letter of your SD card and 2) Eject it. 3) Then pull the card out and stick it back in.
  6. A bluetooth adapter for the PC is designed to move files around between the 2, not much more I doubt it would play through bluetooth and you need to actually connect a wire from the phone to your PC to get it to output to the PC sound (but this would depend on your system) There are literally thousands of cables that allow you to do this
  7. Have you tried using another keyboard ? There is an option within the BIOS to disable the 'halt on keyboard error' problem is that if there is an issue with the Keyboard you cant get into the BIOS
  8. Hi and welcome to FPCH :)
  9. Agreed while some are pretty easy, if you havent done one before they are a real pain. Get one off ebay and then as others have suggested give it to a local repair shop
  10. Connect the lappy to the router/modem with an Ethernet cable if its all ok then it narrows it down to the lappy wireless connection. Underneath the Virgin router there will be the SSID (name of the router it broadcasts) and the passphrase, ensure that this is what your wireless is detecting and trying to connect to (as they sometimes just try and connect to the first available) which could be one of your neighbours unprotected router
  11. That's your issue ATA 100 can only recognise up to 137GB (as can the controllers) ATA 133 can recognise much more - You need to use an ATA 133 controller and cable (take it your optical drive is connected via a 133?) and it 'should' pick it up as 500GB If you do not have one onboard then buy an add in PCI card and attach it to that.
  12. It could be anything, SCSI drives, most of which fit into an SCSI backplane do not have the traditional 4 pin molex slot for connecting power. IDE and SATA do, so unless it has an adapter on the back which provides power too, making it hot swappable (these are removable though) To rule all this out as Synapse has said a piccy would be your best bet for an answer
  13. Hi and welcome to FPCH :) Incase you see this before your post, I have posted on your issue
  14. First things first, connect with an Ethernet cable and see if you can access the internet (this will rule out the router and the ISP) If it does connect with an Ethernet, then you either dont have the correct credentials inputted for the SSID and passphrase (for the security) although as it shows connected (connected to yours I hope and not the first one without security ) Have you configured the router yourself or did you just run a wizard or did BT set it up?
  15. It means that some of the files in C:/ whatever the program is called are missing/removed and it cannot remove it as it needs these. there are some uninstaller programs that will get rid of it such as Revo Uninstaller Pro - Uninstall Software, Remove Programs easily
  16. A DVD recorder or player? Some DVD players allow USB sticks to be plugged in to play the data on them, it cannot go the other way where the DVD player sends data to the USB All you need to do to solve your issue is not use that software and get Nero or something equivalent (there are free versions) and you will have the issue sorted
  17. Hulabear just to double check this 500GB drive is SATA yes?
  18. This problem normally happens when an older OS partitions or formats the drive not a newer one. If it was recognised as 500GB on the XP system then it is ONLY the OS that is causing the issue, as for imaging software Acronis is highly recommended
  19. Drivers and updates here:- HP Pavilion Slimline s5306uk Desktop PC - HP technical support (United Kingdom - English)
  20. What is the make and model number of the PC ? Download DirectX here:- How to Download and Install DirectX
  21. Thats all fine  What make and model HP is it? Are you using the very latest drivers for the GPU? have you updated them from the HP site
  22. Regardless of the OS or hardware, either a BIOS update or a windows update will allow the use of more modern drives. But as Jelly has said windows 2000 is very dated. Worst case screnario is that you install an add in PCI card that can handle the additional IDE/SATA drives (providing they supply windows 2000 drivers)
  23. Open a command window (cmd.exe) and then type dxdiag and hit enter, post any of the screen information here. You can also download the latest Direct X (which will overide any previous versions) from http://www.microsoft.com/games/en-us/aboutgfw/pages/directx.aspx
  24. Try http://support.microsoft.com/defau [...] -us;305098 Or read below: To enable 48-bit LBA large-disk support in the registry: 1. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe). 2. Locate and then click the following key in the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Atapi\Parameters 3. On the Edit menu, click Add Value, and then add the following registry value: Value name: EnableBigLba Data type: REG_DWORD Value data: 0x1 4. Quit Registry Editor. Restart the PC.
  25. Given that this is a laptop then it is better to use the drive as an external as BeeCeeBee has said.
