  1. Have you looked in Disk Management that the second drive is actually not partitioned, it will show some of the disk as BLUE and some as BLACK. If that is the case then you need to reformat and then activate the disk
  2. Couple of things, what software is it that you are using, if it is burn for free, then use something else as its not very good. ANY file burnt to a CD/DVD should be visable within a PC CD/DVD player, the fact that it is only visable in a standalone DVD player would indicate that the software has changed the format to one IT uses itself. Use Nero for every burning requirement, some people prefer Roxio, but I prefer Nero, It supports ISO, Data, VOB and many others and is good for beginners and advanced users.
  3. More than likely there is a slight loose connection with the Ethernet port on the lappy, its common when using cables and sitting the lappy on your knee as the end of the wire bends inside the lappy causing an issue. Not much you can do unless you get a USB dongle for the internet
  4. That's far too high for IE, wait for one of the Malware guys to post to see if there is anything 'lurking'
  5. Your either using a piece of software that doesnt recognise certain types of files (which is unlikely) or your CCD/DVD rom needs the firmware updating
  6. Have you tried adding the MAC address of the Iphone into the routers 'accepted devices' ? The only thing that seems to be blocking anything is the Iphone itself (not having one, I'm a Blackberry person meself :D) Im not familiar with the security software on them, I would contact the owner of the APP and see what they say as you wont be the first person having the issue and as its a specifically designed piece of software support isnt easy to come by
  7. I personally would remove the CPU heatsink and re apply thermal paste, then re attach the heatsink. There are not many things that can cause temps that high:- MOBO over volting the CPU Thermal paste not applied correctly Fan on the heatsink not working cheap passive heatsinks
  8. You need to run the software from the internet provider otherwise the dongle just appears as a USB thumb drive (which in essence it is)
  9. If the disks are blank then its intended for you to make your own recovery disks from within windows, there should be a notification on the lappy saying along the lines of 'your system needs recovery disks, to perform this now, click this balloon' etc etc If the disks are blank then use those, dont worry about all the rubbish on the system as these shouldnt be backed up. DO THE DISKS BEFORE you wipe the HDD
  10. Its right that the fans get audible the harder the PC works, it cools the CPUs, often using smartcool or cool n quiet technology (when the CPU reaches a certain temp the fans speed up) when you have the performance graph up you need to look at what processes are using the most RAM and resources and post them here so we can have a look
  11. Well I personally think you would be better getting a budget PC capable of PCI-E graphics, while it may cost slightly more the very 'basic' CPUs and RAM now used in budget systems will completely blow older systems away! The same is said of the GPU an older 'budget' PCI-E card will be far better than a moderate/high end AGP That being said you want AGP therefore just get whatever you can afford
  12. It depends on what you use the PCs for:- I have servers and can remote desktop in on one and still work on the other monitor with my main PC whether it be browsing Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help or playing a game :) Plus it looks cool when someone sees your setup with different wallpapers :D I personally cant live without more than 1 at times I have 4
  13. 3.75GB is the Max a 32bit OS can 'see' :) RAM manufacturer is down to the user, I only use OCZ for a few reasons (one of which is a lifetime warranty)
  14. Windows requires 10% of an HDD 'space' to run optimally (you are below that) and need to get rid of what you no longer use/need. As for the RAM, try and buy the fastest the board will take and dual channel helps too, If you need help choosing, we need the MOBO (Motherboard) make and model number
  15. From memory the H50 comes with it pre installed :)
  16. with Gigabit the MAX speed you will get is around 50Mbps, which is quicker than flash memory :) You also have to make sure that the Ethernet cable is a crossover and NOT a standard CAT5e
  17. Hi and welcome to FPCH :)
  18. Biggest factors when looking at a new GPU is the PSU (power supply) you have, its fine spending £150 on a new card but if you have only got a 300Watt PSU then you wont be able to use it. The next thing is the screen resolution you plan on playign games at for around the £150 mark you are looking at 20-22'' screen resolutions of 1680x1050 anymore and it'll cost more... Let us know the answers to the above and then we can make some suggestions.
  19. Well we all start from somewhere and I am glad that more and more people are 'diving in' a few years ago people never even thought of opening their case, let alone swapping parts and building their own PCs :) Keep up the good work.
  20. As DSTM has said, make sure that any data you want to keep is removed from the HDD before you install W7 or format the HDD. And check compatibility as XP is very old in terms of hardware requirements compared to Vista or W7
  21. You ALWAYS need to install the drivers/software before you connect the printer/scanner (MFD)
  22. Also dont confuse readyboost (which is when the page file is offloaded to a USB thumb drive or similar device) it is meant to speed the system up but when I have used it for people there have been no noticable differences.
  23. Didnt know they did a PCI-E x1 version Bottom line is that AGP is older technology and not worth investing in, as its a dead end with no real upgrade path What is your current system MOBO?
  24. Right that makes more sense, there doesnt seem to be an issue with the old drive then you just need to upgrade the firmware (BE VERY WARY THOUGH) you need to check its the right one and then check again as if you choose the wrong one it can knacker the drive. SO have a look here Download LG Automatic Firmware Downloader 8 Driver for Windows 9X/ME/NT/2K/XP/2003/Vista/XP X64/2008 - Softpedia
