Compatibility of Graphics Cards on my laptop??
Dalo Harkin replied to RyhmAXD's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
I agree it is far more 'cost effective' to buy a higher end laptop than it is to try and change the components -
CPU won't boot past BIOS Revision A03 Screen
Dalo Harkin replied to Myron Winston's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
You will need to enter the BIOS and look for the BOOT options - set the first device as the HDD You are getting the floppy seek error as most laptops/PCs do not come with floppy drives now...hence one not being found -
Have you re entered the BIOS and set the first boot device to CD/DVD-ROM? You may need to take the HDD out of his PC, install it in yours and then FORMAT the drive - stick it back in the other PC and do the reinstall/install
-
Where did you download it from, did you purchase the game online and download the file? if so it sounds like you have a corrupt download and you need to contact the company/site you purchased it from. If you downloaded the file as a torrent then we cannot help

There is not always someone on line to help. If you have more than one monitor connection at the back of the tower then try that, some have onboard and add in cards, onboard is near where the USB ports are at the back and add in is further down. Some add ins have more than 1 port so again try the other as it is not uncommon for one port to go

I personally would not use any software that comes with routers or USB/PCI dongles. If you goto the manufacturers website you will be able to find the driver needed (you will obviously have to do this from a PC with internet) when you have the driver install it and then plug the dongle in and it will be recognised via windows and then you can configure it for your network. you will need the passphrase which is known as your 'key' if you dont know it already it will be on the bottom of the router on a sticker

Hi and welcome to FPCH :) In regards to saving to the desktop, just add to favourites or the favourite bar and then we are always there

Right - Did this computer always have XP its not been downgraded from Vista in the past or anything? Anyone been in the BIOS and playing with anything? if the system will not sleep then this can be caused from the BIOS either not being configured on the ACPI front (XP and Vista work very different hence the earlier question) Ok - so the 1st HDD is for the OS and the 2nd for backups To make it easier for you I would remove the 2nd disk completely, and then start the OS install, you WILL need to manually load SATA drivers at the F6 stage as I said before XP does not natively support SATA - so you need to find these and install them (unless they are slipstreamed onto your OS disk) if it is anything other than a DELL one, you need a floppy drive installed

Yes wireless is easiest, there are 2 ways to connect:- I have listed them this way as I personally would do them in this order 1:- Let windows configure the network, you right click on the bottom right where your 'wireless' connection shows and scan then enter pasphrase 2:- You run the CD that comes with the dongle and then insert the dongle, it scans for networks and then you are asked to enter the passphrase for the router you are accessing (normally on the bottom of the router on a sticker) If the PC is situated near the router then it is always best to connect via an ethernet cable for 'troublefree' internet :)

Can you please take a screen shot of your network adapters from device manager and post it here. Who configures/configured/administrates your router/network
-
So you have one 1TB drive then... I doubt very much that you would get that to run properly on XP, XP for one did not support SATA natively and needed drivers to be loaded at the F6 stage of the OS install. Also a PC/Laptop old enough to be running XP would not support a 1TB HDD without a BIOS flash

This is under the assumption that RAID is being used RAID means that 2 disks are being used as 1 (there are various methods of RAID but these are the 2 mosy commercially used variants) in either mirrored mode (which basically means that everything you install on your C:/ drive gets duplicated onto the second drive incase the system drive ever dies you dont lose data) striped mode means that you have 2 disks acting as 1 and data is written to each drive sequentially and this improves performance. RAID is normally identified by 2 drives being used that are the same size (belarc lists 2 drives 500GB with seperate serial numbers) Regardless which version of RAID is being used, you WOULD have to rebuild the RAID array in order for it to work. Your manuals would tell you this.

Used laptop help please

Glad you got it all sorted :) -
The other thing you need to check is that these newer GPUs are pretty big often a foot long or more and can take up as much as 3 of the slots on the back of the PCI slots. If you are using any PCI add in cards, you need to check that they will fit Just make sure that the PSU is ATX 2.2 compliant and it will have a 24pin ATX and an 8 and 4 pin ATX (the rest is just the amount of MOLEX and SATA connectors) The 8pin PCI-E adapters normally come with the GPU :)

Just do a complete install again, the last thing you want is a corrupt windows - better to start from scratch again. Set the BIOS to boot from CD-ROM/DVD-ROM as the first device and then start the process again, be thankful its not XP, Vista and W7 install fast compared to the older OS'
-
The fans running at full speed suggest that either:- The computer is overheating (this is often from dust, use compressed air) The BIOS has reset and needs reconfiguring The CMOS battery is dead
-
According to Belarc there are 2 HDDs installed (2x500GB) - you stating you have removed and replaced one would indicate that the original setup was RAID You need to confirm this, because replacing one half of a RAID array can lead to all sorts of issues

Do you have a set of recovery disks? or a partition on the PC that is visible when booted saying along the lines of 'press F10 to launch recovery console' -

A little help for numpty please display gone !

Right the problem that you have is that your using XP which doesnt do DirectX 10 (it can in theory but I have seen all sorts of issues trying to get the thing running right) or 11 (this it wont do) You can use something like a XFX Radeon HD5770 1GB which is around £105, it supports DX11. But the next issue you will have is the CPU, flight sim uses lots and lots of CPU power. If you play/want to play flight sim games you ideally need a better machine, dual or quad chip around the 2.5GHz mark per core and at least 3GB RAM with W7 ideally -

Lol - love the comments by the Trend Micro guy Granted M$ has always had an issue with the memory management, but as this is nothing new and has been going on a long time I wouldn't worry too much :) -

Well I had a look on the eMachines website, and any reference I could find, when I clicked on a page it wasn't there - so thats a good start :( After looking more it has an Intel D101GGC Motherboard and according to here:- http://downloadmirror.intel.com/15113/eng/D101GGC_TechProdSpec.pdf It has a PCI-E x16 slot so the choice is endless :) what is your budget and what sort of games are you planning on playing? -
I wouldnt remove anything unless you know what it does, this is what it does:- Microsoft Silverlight You can have a look in windows updates (it should appear as an optional update) and you can install it from the very bottom of the page that I added above :)
