Laptop Screen - reducing and tiling!
Dalo Harkin replied to bobass's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Lol - thats weird, the problem you may have is that if you disable/remove all of them you may end up with no display. It looks like at some point someone has connected more than one monitor to that device, but when they are removed they should have gone - if you click into each one it will give you a better description of them, I would REMOVE any (that do not fit the description of the device) as in uninstall the driver for it.. untill you are ledt with just the one. then restart - see if its all ok? if not then have a look in device manager and check if the 3 have appeared again.. in which case you may have to remove all of them and then restart and cross your fingers that windows detects it  (this is a last resort though as you could end up with some issues, like the monitor not displaying ) -
Has it frozen and stayed frozen and requires a hard reset, or does it just hang and then come back to life again? If the machine requires a hard reset then you are looking at a hardware issue, RAM or the HDDs themselves.. If it hangs and then responds then you are looking at either a spike in resources (which could be from anything like AV program, Malware etc) to drivers being needed.. Open control panel and then system, then device manager - are there any yellow exclamation marks next to anything? if so then you require drivers for those devices :)

Backup app for my computer?
Dalo Harkin replied to fedegut84's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
It would all depend on the size of the data being backed up, are you backing up the whole OS and programs/files etc or just your files and folders. You could go down the software route of Acronis etc that takes a snapshot of your whole drive and backs it up to external media (CD/DVD or HDD) If you are just backing up your own files that you cannot lose, then I personally would just work out how much there is and depending on the size either use DVD-+RW disks or start looking to invest in BluRay if the size of the files is high.. :) Either that or get a server like me, that does it all for you :D -

If the onboard you were using wasn't good enough then yes get an add in one, BUT you are very limited with AGP cards, as they are dated.. A few things you need to check prior to buying a new card:- * What size monitor you have plays a big part in choosing a card * Current PSU wattage (some GPUs require lots of power) * Do you have space in the case for the card you are looking at as some cards now are over a foot long and can take up 3 slots on the MOBO If you no longer use your modem card then remove it, as it uses power :) -
Ok, so when it finds some of the PCs it should bring them up as little white boxes saying the name of the PC next to it (if you have re named them all that is) otherwise they will be set at the manufacturers defaults. It will be recognising them through windows media connect...so yeah you need to check that the media player is at least been opened once and ran and configured then the TV 'should' see it The next problem that you will have is that the files that you wish to access from the PC HAVE to be in the 3 folders that the TV can 'see' which are the default MUSIC, VIDEO, PICTURES folders within windows, if like me you have a few PCs and a main PC and some servers - some of the more modern server OS's like WHS and Server 2008 have the ability to stream as part of the OS and being server based handle all their own backup/recovery side :)

Running fast and crashing

1GB of RAM is fine for XP with pre SP3, anything using SP3 requires 1.5GB of RAM the additional RAM will stop the CPU throttling which will stop your CPU overheating -
Are you sure that the PC doesnt use some kind of RAID technology? The USER PC would suggest that that is the size of your user data, the OS, any programs and files that you have (66GB for this is excessively high unless you have games or videos etc installed?) you should be at most around the 30-40GB mark Your windows image, may just have more than one image and the older ones could/should be removed, Is the system set to back up at a certain time/date?

Where have you sourced the drivers from? According to the Lenovo website it has a Ricoh card reader:- are these the drivers you were using Lenovo Support - RICOH CardReader driver for Windows XP - 3000 N200 (type 0769)

This is rushed, but to give you an idea, between the difference:- Now where it says add in, one of those additional slots is where your graphics card would be on the PC -
First of all you would need to check that the media player is up to date and installed on the W7 PC, It may be there, but if its never been opened or configured I doubt it would see it..I am guessing that your TV accesses it through WMC (windows media centre) and there are options in there that also need configuring for devices.. Is the TV searching individual PCs or your network, how are the PCs connected to the network, wireless or ethernet? all drivers up to date on the NICs?

Graphic card gobble-de-gook
Dalo Harkin replied to Kornish's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Before considering a new GPU, you need to check that the PSU will handle it and also that the monitor you plan on using it on is ok, there is no point investing £100 in a new GPU if you are running a monitor with a res of 1024x768 :D -
any chance of a pic of the part that is oozing black, I'm guessing a capacitor.. and if thats the case then yes you will need a new MOBO. The Asus P5Q WiFi Deluxe is the one that I have and I run it watercooled at 4GHz per core, you can get 3.4GHz per core on air with a decent heatsink... In my personal opinion I think the Q6600 is the best chip released for a very long time..

If you have the passwords that the 'seller' gave you then, they are case sensitive so try with CAPS and also lower case and a cap at the start and then lower case. From HPs own website IT Resource Center forums - HP 6735s BIOS password. If all else fails, look here CmosPwd - CGSecurity -
Have you checked in device manager that the card reader is visible to windows? If the SD card is still inside the camera then you may need to turn the camera on when it is connected to the PC

You can get DVI to HDMI adapters, so if you can find a netbook with HDMI then you can just use one of those and get the best of both worlds... http://www.pccables.com/images/01761.jpg

Do you have the driver for the machine on a disk, or does windows update find one? It looks like its trying to use the generic XP one which is rubbish. did you get any disks at all with the machine? try this too start>control panel>system>device manager> have a look at the display driver and try and update the driver - let it search automatically and if there is a better match from say windows update then it will load the driver for you automatically.. Let us know how you get on -
Hi, A merry christmas to you too, if this isnt the right place a mod will move it :)
-
As this is an add in card, do you have onboard graphics aswell, have you tried that if you do have it? Does the GPU have more than 1 VGA or DVI port, and have you tried both? It is not uncommon for one of the ports to die and the other work

pop the CMOS battery out for 30 seconds and then reinsert it, this will clear ALL the BIOS options including any supervisor passwords that prevent access to the BIOS. Make sure the machine is off and unplugged from the wall/socket when you do this -

It just basically says that there is a problem with the AGP driver. have you checked in the BIOS that the onboard GPU is enabled? -
I wouldnt recommend from going from a 425Watt to a 750W as its overkill. Have a look at the corsair range of PSUs they have one around the 450Watt mark DONT buy a cheap generic one as they are not very good and can cause issues further down the line.. Also as Randy has suggested the fan could just be clogged up, its normally the bearing in the fan, and it is very easy to just replace the fan..

Freezing is normally hardware related, have you checked the CPU temps? have you ran memtest? I would look at these first, to rule out hardware

Rebooting at random intervals does point to a heat issue, did you apply thermal paste on the CPU before fitting the heatsink? It can sometimes point to a PSU issue, but its more common when say the 8/4 pin ATX cable is not connected to the socket near the CPU... check and double check all wires - dont have any crossthrough/splitter cables attached to HDDs and if you have any USB devices make sure that they are unplugged as they draw power from a certain rail on the PSU and can cause the PC to reboot if they draw too much
