  2. Is USB Legacy Support enabled in the BIOS? If not, then please enable it and see if the Keyboard and Mouse work or not. -- Goku
  3. There is no apparent harm in defragmenting the drive mate. You can go ahead and give it a try. Just make sure it doesn't bother you with the same nag again. -- Goku
  4. Yes, I understand that. You put in too much honey in there. :D Of course, the schedule might have been altered due to various factors but the fact is that both of you are right at their own points. Another setting to disable while using Vista! -- Goku
  5. I think Seth is referring to this Wolfey. :) -- Goku
  6. Please read the following article and perform the troubleshooting steps recommended. See if they help or not. How to recover from a corrupted registry that prevents Windows XP from starting Good Luck. -- Goku
  7. Is it real? I have a friend who uses Vista but he never mentioned about it. Do you have to disable a setting to stop it from doing so? -- Goku
  8. Precisely what I mean Dalo. Is the performance difference noticeable that is to say do the games launch one or two seconds quicker after you have defragmented the drive? -- Goku
  9. Hello and Welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help Wad. :) I completely agree with Seth on this. Do not enable / disable those settings to attempt to correct your problem. It may result in you being locked out of your own problem. As for your problem, it is very strange. Why did the disk check run automatically on boot? Had you scheduled it for next boot? If not, then was the computer improperly shut down? For the symptoms you are mentioning, I would blame them on a corruption in the registry, user account or the operating system itself. Also, like Dalo already suspects, it might be that the hard drive might be dying. Please answer the above questions so we may advise you accordingly. -- Goku
  10. Exactly Randy. And Windows 98 was not as bad too. But the Windows 98 in-built defragmenting utility was more of an annoyance especially if you forgot to turn off the screensaver before attempting to defragment. :D Again, I have used a number of defragging applications but have yet to experience any performance differences. Perhaps, the differences are more noticeable in CPU intensive processes. However, like Seth, I have stopped defragmenting my hard drive. Once a year is fine but including it in the regular maintenance procedure is not worth the effort, in my opinion. -- Goku
  11. Can we take the aid of Google?! :D -- Goku
  12. Hello and Welcome to FPCH Steve. :) Hope you enjoy your stay here. -- Goku
  13. Yes, I found the driver listed too but I just wanted to see if HP's recommended driver works for Mat or not. Thanks for listing it up. :) -- Goku
  14. OK, I tried to perform a search on your model number but it came with a stupendous amount of results. Download drivers and software - HP Pavillion dv9500 From the listed options, there are a couple varieties for the dv9500 series. Please choose the appropriate series and you will be presented with a list of Operating Systems. Choose your Operating System and download the drivers for your graphics card. After you have downloaded the drivers, install them and reboot the computer. See if the problem still persists or not. Good Luck. -- Goku
  15. OK, please wait for a while till I research your problem a bit more. :) -- Goku
  16. Hello and Welcome to FPCH Mat. :) It could be well indeed a graphic driver problem as you already suspect. Can you please tell us the model number of your laptop, so that we may search for the appropriate drivers. -- Goku
  17. Hello Rich. After a brief search, I found the RAW codec for the camera on the following site. Canon RAW Codec 1.3 Please download the codec from the above site and install it on your computer. Make sure the camera is unplugged at that time. After the installation is complete, please reboot your computer. Now, try and connect the camera to the computer. See if it helps or not. Good Luck. -- Goku
  18. That is strange indeed because if you have already installed the drivers for the camera, then the computer should recognize the device straight away and shouldn't open the "New Hardware Wizard" at all. Are you sure you have installed the drivers for the camera? As you should have already guessed, I am no expert in these matters so please bear with me till I search for a solution or till the other techs get online. Thank you for your patience and co-operation. :) -- Goku
  19. Have you tried installing the software from the CD that came with the camera? It will most probably contain the drivers / firmware that are needed to connect the camera with the computer. If not, then please try so and see if the camera is recognized by the computer. Good Luck. -- Goku
  20. Hello and Welcome to FPCH Rich. :) Glad to have you here. Hope you enjoy your stay here. -- Goku

  22. I would go with a plasma TV because they provide sharper quality picture but there are some issues with them that ruin the experience. Here is a simple article that puts some of their basic aspects. Plasma vs. LCD: Six things you need to know -- Goku
  23. Do exactly as Randy says and if that doesn't work, then please perform the following instructions. 1. Download RegSeeker from here. 2. Next open the application by executing the RegSeeker file. This should bring you to a screen as shown below. http://www.hoverdesk.net/images/reg-find.jpg Note: Before you proceed with anything, make sure the "Backup before deletion" box is checked as shown in the image. 3. Click on the Installed applications tab and it should provide you with the options mentioned below. http://news.softpedia.com/images/reviews/large/RegSeeker_02large.png 4. Choose Invalid Add/Remove entries and it should bring you a list of invalid entries in the Add / Remove programs list. 5. Select the unwanted entries by highlighting them and press the Delete key to remove them. 6. Reboot the computer. This should most probably fix the problem. If the entries are still there, then please report back so and we will search for an alternate solution. Good Luck. :) -- Goku
