Hello Forum, I recently purchased a Lenovo Thinkpad YOGA X1 3rd Gen. As far as hardware, she's fully loaded with the highest specs possible. Running Windows 10 Pro. Right off the bat it had a bunch of issues. I did a bunch of updates, most of them went away. I had to do some "regedit" for 1 problem where the keyboard would beep a bunch if I typed too quickly and it would set off hotkeys. Currently only 2 problems remain and if I can be rid of them I can be rid of my buyers remorse. Problem 1: File explorer opens on its own. Random. Multiple times. Can be hours between occurrences or minutes. Sometimes it will even go an entire session of work without doing it. Problem 2: The mouse floats upward and becomes useless from the touchpad. This occurs when I open the laptop from being closed and asleep, or when I flip it from tablet mode BACK TO laptop mode. It stops after roughly 3 to 5 seconds and then the touchpad is okay to use. If this can be fixed through "regedit" I'd love some walk through. Everything on the device is up to date. Any info you all need just ask and I will try me best to provide it. Best, Booshiba More...

Hi! So, I just got a new notebook with Windows 10. I'm coming from Windows 7. In previous system, W7 as mentioned, I had 309.000+ files indexed for a windows.edb size of 1,4 GB. I transferred nearly everything on the new machine and let the indexer run. The first time it indexed 280.000+ files for a stunning 60 GB (sixty gigabytes) of windows.edb. Decided to delete and rebuild, I deleted as many mails and files (a backup was already in place) as possible before re-indexing again. The second time it indexed 155.000+ files for a windows.edb size of 15 GB+. So I deleted more files and emails, in the meantime the Search Indexer decided to delete+build on its own. It's now on 109.000+ files indexed for a 6,5 GB windows.edb file. In the end: Windows 7 was working great with indexing and Windows 10 can't do the same work with the same data. The parameters for indexing properties and contents are the same in both W7 and W10 for the extensions I typically use. At a certain point in time I was having issues with W7+Search Indexer and was able to uninstall (n.b.: uninstall, not deactivate) and reinstall; that fixed a problem I had. In W10 I'm not able to find any way to uninstall and reinstall it. Thank you in advance. More...

Hi, Does anyone know of a comprehensive list of UI and functional differences between Windows 7 Pro and Windows 10 Pro? We want to upgrade a bunch of computers to Windows 10 but perhaps provide a cheat sheet to users so that some functions are different or new options they need to be aware of or UI elements are different. I think this would lessen the support calls after the upgrade. Thanks, More...

Hi, I use RDP for the most of my daily work to connect to four other PCs. My local PC is used for mail and RDP, that's it. I'm using Windows 10 version 10.0.17134.228 I can use RDP fine for maybe a few hours and then the local taskbar will plant itself over the RDP sessions, making it SO hard to use the RDP sessions that it becomes unusable. I've tried all the methods that other people have recommended, restarting explorer.exe etc. and making sure that the local machine has no notifications and NOTHING works. When we use RDP, surely we don't CARE what the local machine is up to, it's just a means to use other machines without interruption? Is there SERIOUSLY no way of stopping the taskbar in Windows 10 taking over the RDP taskbar? Can this be rectified in an update? I was praying that the Anniversary update would solve this but no :( Any help to resolve this would be appreciated as this drives me NUTS on a daily basis! Many thanks! More...

Hey there, for some time now I have this weird problem that I sometimes have short freezes. For instance when I type the cursor will just stop and for a second it will buffer my keyboardinput and just releases it when the freeze stops. Same goes when playing, which is even far worse. When I play starcraft 2 a second of freeze is just unacceptable. I have literally no idea whats causing this. I tested my RAM with memtest, removed all harddrives except my M.2, tried with intel integrated graphics, tried different displays with different settings without success. My setup is: asrock z370 extreme4 Intel i7 8700k (not overclocked) G.Skill Ripjaws V DDR4-2300 DIMM CL16-18-18-38 be quiet pure power 10 600watt MSI Geforce GTX 1080ti Twin Frozr Main Harddrive is Samsung 960EVO 500gb How can I track whats causing this down? Cheers, Thomas More...

Hello, I use Windows 8 on my laptop, and my external HDD got encrypted with BitLocker out of the blue. I have never used BitLocker, I do not even have it on my laptop (Control Panel does not show any icon for BitLocker & forums say it is only available with Windows 8 Pro). Therefore, I have no idea why Windows has locked my HDD, and I have no means of recovering this as I do not have any recovery key or password (since I have never used BitLocker in the first place). Please help. Thanks, Jignasha More...

Hi, when i make new shortcut for download folder with *explorer* and *space* in front of the path name, right click on folder and pin to taskbar, when the download folder open, at the same time open another folder (separate) "this pc" and i don't know why. This happens on W8.1 not on W7. On W7 it's very simple (with the same method but on w7 it work well). I have try many methods, but none of them work. Have any idea of how? Image example: https://image.prntscr.com/image/aNHdMlXSQO_jRwhhDT1-aQ.png Image: left folder is the pinned folder, and the right folder icon opens when i click on the left folder (W8.1). Thank you. Ok, I'm probably not the first person to ask about this. Why on earth, can I not see any of my connected network printers under 'Devices and Printers' of Windows 8? The devices are without question, 100% connected and registered with the OS, as evidenced from their presence within the 'Print Queues' section of Device Manager, and various software packages, when accessing the 'Print' dialog. I can't even find any evidence of the printers within Print Management! What is going on? More...

I want to schedule a windows task to run when a secondary output device (e.g., VGA monitor or HDMI A/V receiver is turned on or off) but I'm not sure which event should be used for this. I found something related to network cable plug/unplug here How to launch a command on network connection/disconnection? basically, the event is Log: Microsoft-Windows-NetworkProfile/Operational Source: NetworkProfile Event ID: 10000 for connect and 10001 for disconnect but couldn't find anything for external audio/video devices. Any such event or events exist? If not, any other way to do this? Thanks More...

Hi I have a Windows 8 laptop and all of a sudden Internet Explorer has started opening the window really tiny. Not aware of any changes I've made and all other applications are fine. This is very annoying. Wish I'd stayed with Windows 7. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/getfile/449241 Viv Haig More...

It seems that the packages of .Net Framework - Update KB4340558 - are damaged (wrong or missing hashes). Install fails with error 0x80092004 on Windows 8.1 clients and Windows Server 2012 R2. Also KB 4054566 (Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7.2) seems affected. I've now round about 10-20 confirmations around the world. One user found a log entry: ?Couldn?t find the hash of component: NetFx4-PenIMC? So I guess, the package is damaged/botched internally. I summed it up with the blog post .Net Framework: Update KB4340558 drops error 0x80092004?. Guess MS need to have a look into the package. Gruß/greetings G.
