  1. When I enter my saves and find my images I would tap on them And the single image would pop up like usual. And I like to use the slideshow feature which you can find by hitting the 3 vertical circles. But as of recently it's disappeared and I can no longer use it. Why and how can this be fixed? (I'm lazy and I prefer to use this to teach lessons, but I'd like to know why my slideshow feature is still disbaled.) More...

  13. I don’t even know if this will reach anyone of interest. The category options on this forum web page don’t even make sense. However, here goes. I recently tried the upgrade to WINDOWS 10. Every now and then I have occasion to use DOS (my age is showing) and I found to my horror that the plain text DOS editor seems to have been removed from WINDOWS 10. It is something I have used ever since DOS first appeared and I still use it. I quickly went back to my trusty WINDOWS 7. Two questions. 1. Why on earth would MICROSOFT remove it? It’s simple, plain software that has worked forever and was an integral part of DOS. 2. Does anyone know where I can get a simple, plain text editor that does nothing except the basic text editing functions? More...
  14. I have had a Spectre for just over three years. Running Win 10 Pro and the SSD is BitLockered. Recently it was on sleep in the bag between locations and I got some kind of heat error and it blue-screened and died. Since then recovery won't work - the recovery key for BitLocker is not recognised (I have triple checked it twice - it's the right key, from the Microsoft site directly, which I've used before). My assumption is then that the SSD is knackered. I have tried the recovery key both from the blue recovery screens and also from the command line with the "manage-bde" options. I just get "The parameter is incorrect" errors. There seems no way either to recover the OS or bitlocker into the disk to retrieve files. In this modern age of course there is no such thing as a Win 10 reinstallation disk (or disk drive) so can anyone advise on the best route to potentially retrieve files? I actually don't care about the laptop - I'm going to upgrade, but I would like access to the few files I'd edited locally that aren't on the cloud.. Thanks in advance for any discussion or help at all! doonan_79 More...
  15. Hello, IT pross, I've just received the MS Update 1809 (one of the problems for being an insider). 16. I've found a few other reports of this around the place, but never any resolution, eg: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/bccafa80-86f3-46e0-abf6-df47e17f9ff0/wrong-password-after-locking-computer-or-sleep?forum=win10itprogeneral https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/de9e5134-95ea-48da-9214-1c7d1f128165/password-incorect-after-computer-goes-to-sleeps-or-gets-locked?forum=win10itprogeneral https://www.tenforums.com/user-accounts-family-safety/64735-occasionally-cant-login-after-wake-sleep.html I support a Government organisation, and we're experiencing the same issue sporadically, especially it seems with our laptop and mobile users. The PC will go to sleep, and when woken the correct password is not accepted. This issue has been affecting some of our VIP users, and a problem raised. The info I've found online suggests that it's a known issue that's not been resolved - is there anywhere that MS acknowledges this that I can refer to? Most of the posts I've found online end up just suggesting turning off requiring a password to resume from sleep - that's not an option for us at all. It's a hard one because it's so random and we're not always told when the problem occurs - I'm going to suggest that users select Switch User, and re-log in if it happens as a workaround, but something official I could refer to would be very useful! 17. Hello everyone, we currently have the following configuration: 1. User's Desktop & Documents folder redirected to a network location. 2. Network Location is configured with Latency=1 to have the folder "Always Offline" and synced by the Backgroundagent. 3. Windows 10 - Enterprise x64 - 1607, 1703 and 1709 From time to time, we'd have a user that has problems with the offline files cache. We perform a clean of the CSC-Database (by setting the FormatDatabase Regkey and rebooting the computer). The problem we have now is, that the earlier redirected folders are no longer available offline. We waited several days, rebooted the computer, performed GPUPDATES... everything... it's not happening automatically. The only known method for us would be to change the GPO and bring back the context menu to show the user the "make available offline" item, and excplicit click on it for both folders to make it available offline again. (Note: Before the format database, the context menu item, if shown, would be checked and greyed out). Is this a bug? Feature? Can anything else be done to bring back the sync partnerships automatically after cleaning the database? Thanks in advance More...

  19. I have a user who accesses a VM via a VDI. It is a Hyper-V VM and the one created mirrors all other users VMs. Issues are only isolated to this particular user. Their where issues with it constantly crashing and receiving BSOD. A totally new VM was built for the user - new ISO file, new version of Office - a complete fresh rebuild. On the new VM the user is still experiencing crashes - In the Event Log I don't see any obvious application crashes causing the issue. I checked the Mini Dump file using the BSOD VIEWER and this is the info given: ================================================== Dump File : 111318-20406-01.dmp Crash Time : 11/13/2018 4:23:07 PM Bug Check String : DRIVER_CORRUPTED_EXPOOL Bug Check Code : 0x000000c5 Parameter 1 : ffffe286`9bc4ef30 Parameter 2 : 00000000`00000002 Parameter 3 : 00000000`00000000 Parameter 4 : fffff803`699880c0 Caused By Driver : ntoskrnl.exe Caused By Address : ntoskrnl.exe+1a9490 File Description : NT Kernel & System Product Name : Microsoft? Reviewed the event log for any specific applications that may have caused the crash but unable to locate anything obvious. 5. Ran a chkdsk - no issues Many of the forum posts I have read point to a faulty memory issue or CPU overclocking. With this being a VM is it possible for RAM to be faulty? If their are faulty ram sticks that are used by the pool of VMs currently setup wouldn't all machines be affected? Not sure how to troubleshoot potential RAM or overclocking issues with a VM as opposed to a thick client. I have disabled the Virtual Adapter: Hardware Acceleration as other VMs have that disabled in the environment. Any insight would be appreciated. More...
  20. Those previews drive me crazy when I am working on multiple items. Long ago I found a registry fix which worked: In HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced Add ExtendedUIHoverTime I used a value of 5000 milliseconds which was a useful 5 second delay for me. That no longer has any effect so I tried the maximum suggested value of 30000 milliseconds, again with no effect. A new search reveals another registry fix: In: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Taskband Add NumThumbnails. By default, it has a value of 0, which should be what I want to get rid of them completely. This also has absolutely no effect. Does anyone know what is going on and a current working method to slow these things down or get rid of them (I am still using 1803). More...

  23. Hi, After receiving the final release of build 17134.1 I have noticed that the size of folders on both of my drives are less than the actual size inside. I had this issue before when I tried the insider build of this version, but reverted back to the previous version as this is a fairly big bug for me, and assumed it would be fixed/ noticed by the time of public release. When reverting back to the previous version, the folder size returned to normal. I'm thinking it's a bug with the calculation of the size as when deleting a folder, the true size is noticed (e.g. removing 100GBs of data), yet when navigating to the folder's properties the size is calculated wrongly (e.g. only 60GBs) Sorry for the lack of technical information, aTOM19 More...

  25. Hello , we have a problem with a user (windows 10 , version 1703) coud not connect to wireless .He is in the right group for authentication in NPS Radius I foud in the events , this error : "The system failed to register pointer (PTR) resource records (RRs) for network adapter with settings: Adapter Name : {EA268A6F-38A6-47E0-8637-9FAF3EC83B6B} Host Name : IM-SONO01 Adapter-specific Domain Suffix : cpc.corprate.com DNS server list : 192.168.1.248 Sent update to server : > IP Address : 192.168.21.192 The reason that the system could not register these RRs was because of a security related problem. The cause of this could be (a) your computer does not have permissions to register and update the specific DNS domain name set for this adapter, or (b) there might have been a problem negotiating valid credentials with the DNS server during the processing of the update request." You can manually retry DNS registration of the network adapter and its settings by typing 'ipconfig /registerdns' at the command prompt. If problems still persist, contact your DNS server or network systems administrator." To me I believe this is an DNS Server issue, but my boss says No and only reason that this pops up is after they loose connection and then reconnects. I have tried to flushdns and registerdns and get the same error in the event log. from the machine of the user i can resole the dns with ip and name and i did a registerdns and no error in output.
