Hi, please i need help. i just installed some updates on my windows 7 Dell Laptop, which the updates includes: Microsoft Essential and i updated my vlc. later on i did restart and after welcome screen i just saw my laptop black out with mouse cursor. i thought it will just be for some minutes or maybe due to some changes i just did. but it was all like that for more than 30 mins. it was so really frustrating, i wanted to browse to do some work i couldn't do anything again i have to stay awake for two hours shutting the laptop down and booting again still the same thing. after on i tried to boot in safe mode, which was successful but i realized that some of my softwares would not open, i shutdown again to boot to normal windows thinking maybe is because i boot in safe mode. it was so worst in normal windows. still on black screen but it didnt last long for 15 mins and the desktop background came up. i was happy but still my softwares like browser, corel and some other apps will not open, i decided to uninstall the vlc again, but showing me you dont have sufficient permission to access the application please contact your computer administrator. i was just helpless. the screen task bar atimes turned to white if i restart the windows or shut it down and put it on again. but windows media player works perfectly i can watch film and i can scan with the Microsoft Essential. i checked the settings to see maybe is the Microsoft Essential i downloaded that denied me access to the applications but is not. MS Word Not opening, Firefox not opening file explorer not working device manager not working, i also tried to use cmd to chkdsk showed me access denied. nothing than to just post the issue if i can see any favourable solution will be so glad. i have tried to do system restore although i will loose the Microsoft Essential Application. that still will not come up at windows startup. and i will not want to accept windows reinstall option cause i will seriously have to start from the scratch and it will cause me stress and time loss. please help out. Thanks More...

I had to reinstall one of my machines (I used the built-in CMOS restore utility that came with the machine. I now wish to lay down the Windows Image Backup I made prior to this issue. The image is stored on a USB external drive, the drive is connected to the machine, visible and browse-able. As a note, I did have to take ownership of the folder tree. When I bring up Windows Restore, is simply won't see the image and there is no way for me to navigate to, or tell it where to look. How can I get this image back down onto the machine? More...

Hi, I have a user who has a strange issue with his Cert store. It only seems to be affecting his "personal" store. When inporting or creating a cert manually the certificate isn't staying in the store. It simply vanishes, not allowing anything to remain. It will create the key in C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Crypto\Keys, but the cert is nowhere to be seen. importing certs to other store works fine, it's just Personal. We eventually managed to manually create the cert using the below command (same result for pfx and certs) Certutil –user –importpfx c:\temp\test.pfx This works, but when programs (in this case the user needs to use "Fiddler") try to create a cert, nothing is imported. This behaviour also occurs as another user logged on to the machine. all are local admins. I'm not massively confident with Cert Store, is there a quick way to repair or force permissions etc?? (64bit, Win7 Enterprise) Thanks More...

I am a developer and I need to be able to install new COM+ Applications on my desktop; however, when I click on the COM+ Application branch under My Computer on the Component Services MSC snap-in I get the following error: You do not have permission to perform the requested action. If security is enabled on the System Application of the target computer make sure you are included on the appropriate roles . My domain login is a member of the local Administrators group which should be the only requirement to able to view installed COM+ Applications. I cannot check the rights of the System Application for the same reason. The error in the event log is Event ID 4434 Category Security A method call to an object in a COM+ application was rejected because the caller is not properly authorized to make this call. The COM+ application is configured to use Application and Component level access checks, and enforcement of these checks is currently enabled. The remainder of this message provides information about the component method that the caller attempted to invoke and the identity of the caller.Svc/Lvl/Imp = 10/6/2, Identity = > Is there some other way to set the security on the System Application or a way to reinstall COM+ on Windows 7? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have run out of ideas. Cheers, Jim Lesure Washington DC More...

Hello, I found errors(ID=46 and 49) in EventViewer's system when I apply KB4012212 to Windows 7 Embedded starndard (sp1). I suppose it is caused by the fact that I disable the page file However, these erros did not occur until applying KB4012212. Why do these errors occur when I apply KB4012212 to the system? Thank you. Usually Windows is OK about notifying you but for this last update I had 5 different people all call me VERY upset that they had lost important work because Windows Updates just hijacked their computer and started installing and then restarted WITHOUT NOTICE. I like the Auto install feature to ensure that updates aren't missed but really???? Why does Microsoft have to act like the very thing it is trying to prevent and take over your computer without your permission. At the very least if there is a user logged in their should be a window that REQUIRES a "yes" click before an auto-restart is performed. I have a solution to prevent this (below) but really it SHOULD be by default for everyone, not requiring specific knowledge of a policy to be set. My father has now lost part of his book he was writing (in Word) that he will never get back because of Microsoft's hijacking. I have the Group Policy Set "No auto restarts when users are logged in" but I am running Windows 7 Professional and it isn't so easy with the other versions. For those who don't have Windows 7 Pro/Ultimate to run gpedit.msc - Computer Config-Admin templates-Windows Components-Windows Update you can use the following - save in Notepad and rename to a something.reg file and double click. Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU] "NoAutoRebootWithLoggedOnUsers"=dword:00000001 "AutoInstallMinorUpdates"=dword:00000001 lforbes More...

Hi, simple Testcase: two directories named "from" and "to" below the working directory. "from" contains: bla.txt bla.asm bla.asm.1 when I run robocopy from to /XF *.asm.* I would expect that bla.asm and bla.txt are copied, since the wildcard demands a dot before and after the "asm". Instead, bla.asm is also excluded. Why is that? More...

No Audio Output Device Installed
BetaTime posted a topic in Microsoft Products Support & Discussions
My HP laptop is having a very vexing issue with audio. When you hover over the speaker icon in the bottom right corner, it displays the message "No Audio Output Device is installed". I have spent an aggravating amount of time trying to fix the issue. I have been on many different forums and followed the advice. I finally chose to follow the HP Support forum. Here is a summary of what has happened so far: 1) I ran the sound problems troubleshooter, first by simply right-clicking the speaker icon and second by opening it from the actual settings. Neither showed any results for possible fixes. 2) I found my way to the Device Manager, as suggested by various forums, and went to the Sound, video, and game controllers drop down. Unlike in the examples shown in the forums, there was only one item under the drop down, named something along the lines of Intel Audio. There was another drop down simply entitled Other devices that listed "Intel High Definition Audio". Twice. This one had the yellow triangle with a black exclamation mark in it. 3) I used the "Search automatically for updated driver software" for both options, because I wasn't sure which was the correct one. For the one under Other devices (aka Intel High Definition Audio), the message said Windows was unable to install it. For the second (the one under Sound, video and game controllers), it said that the best devices were already on the computer. 4) I moved on to uninstalling and reinstalling. I started with the one under Sound, video and game controllers. The directions said to select "delete the driver software for this device", so I did. For some reason, this got rid of the tab it was under as well (probably because it was the only one). I went to the "scan for hardware changes" button under Action as directed, but it showed the same screen, without the tab. Basically, there was no reinstalling, which apparently should have happened automatically. 5) I restarted the computer to get it to reinstall the device. However, the tab was still missing when I re-entered task manager. I exited the manager and ran troubleshooting for audio again, and this time it said it had found a possible solution. I had it do this, and it prompted me to exit all programs (already done) and restart the computer, so I did. This STILL didn't work, and the "Sound, video and game controllers" was still missing. 6) I went to action and "Add Legacy Hardware". From what I recall, there was no installation CD, so I clicked next and used the recommended option. I proceeded to the list as prompted and selected the Sound, video and game controllers. There was no Intel, who I am pretty sure is the manufacturer. 7) Not sure which option to choose, I exit out of Wizard and tried to uninstall the duplicate for Intel High Definition Audio, but after restarting it was there again. Everything I look at says to go under the tab I no longer have (or at least don't know how to set up) and I honestly have no clue what I should do next. Updates and restarting do nothing, and I even completely shut the computer down for a while and that didn't do anything either. The device didn't automatically reinstall (as everything I have seen has said it should) and I am truly at a loss. More... -

First off, this is not related to any problem. This is simply a question I had when I was sitting in my office taking a break. Also, before I ask, I understand the purpose behind the System Idle Process. I understand what it does, specifically that it runs HLT and complex power-saving threads when no other work is being done. My question is, what would happen to the CPU if the System Idle Process did not exist? I understand a CPU can never truly be idle (in the since of no threads moving on it) so what would happen if it ever did find itself without any threads, including idle threads? Just a curiosity, nothing more... Owner, Quilnet Solutions More...

It's my understanding that Microsoft Updates/Upgrades will create the folder C:\$WINDOWS.~BT\ and should clean it up after the upgrade/update is done. However, on many occasions with various flavors/versions of Windows, I have found that not to be the case. Is Microsoft aware of this and, if so, is there a plan to fix that? More...

After installing patches 4459922 and 4462923 from 10/9/18 I can no longer access administrative shares like C$ on a remote machine As part of our usual patch Tuesday process we download the patches from Windows update and ran them on a group of test computers. After installing the patches from 10/9/2018 - 4459922, 4462923, 890830 - Sept, we can no longer access the administrative share C$ on the remote machine. According to what I could find I needed to install 3177467 first (which wasn't available in the downloads until today 10/10/2018). I installed 3177467, which is some sort of stack update, and rebooted. Still cannot see the C$ on machines were the patch was tested. I tried to reinstall 4459922 and 4462923 after installing 3177467 but both patches indicated they were already installed. I uninstalled 4462923 but could not find 4459922 to uninstall. Still can't access the C$ share remotely. No problem accessing it locally. Thoughts eburch@lasertel.com More...

I see this in my event viewer. I have been having issues with my windows system since I upgraded to windows 10 a few months back. The computer keeps freezing and I have to force the computer to shutdown. Below are some errors I'm finding in the Event Viewer: The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. Note: I tried posting this on MS support site 3 times (2 different browsers) and it hangs and won't post. So I hope it works here... Until yesterday, when I had to move the Windows Xbox Wireless receiver for Windows unit to another USB port, it worked for 2 years, no problem. Now, no matter how many fixes I try, it will not connect the wireless controller. Here's what I tried (many times) Switched ports Changed controller batteries (12 different, brand new batteries) Different controller(s) Removed, all not essential USB devices, etc, keyboard and mouse Uninstalled and reinstalled the latest driver (from the CD and 4 different locations [all the same installer]) Moved the receiver within inches of the controller Tried to use the connect button on the bottom of the receiver different ways (hit it once, hold it for up to 30 seconds, hold it once, then release it, then hold it again (that makes the controller green circle blink faster for about 10 seconds). Hold the connect button on the controller until the circle lights rotate from 1,2,3,4 (over and over in all of the above steps). Made sure I had all the latest windows updates And the "one" fix that worked for everyone I read, that didn't for me because the controller never shows under device manager, or add device to your computer, it showed as "Unidentified Device" for all of them, and I never get any unknown device. Here are their steps "Right click on Computer Go to Properties Click on Device Manager Right click on the Unidentified Device (This doesn't show up for me) Go to Properties Go to the Drive tab Click on Update Driver… Browse my computer for driver software Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer Microsoft Common Controller for Window Class Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows Version: 2.1.0.1349 [8/13/2009] Update Driver Warning Click Yes" I am at a loss. I cannot believe it suddenly died when moving it from one port to another, especially when it makes the green controller circle flash faster after holding the connect button on the bottom of the wireless controller.
