  2. I have an old (9 years) Windows application that I'm going to work on bringing up to date.* I am using VS 2008 Pro.* Of course I could make it into a WinForms application, and that would be quicker for me to do, but I would like to try making it in WPF.* However, I've never written a WPF app, and this one is complicated.* Currently it is a multiple document interface (MDI), which the users are adament that the new version also be an MDI.* I've asked around and found out that WPF does not have a MDI like window/form.* Someone else in this forum has said that I could probably roll my own.* That's a nice idea, but given my time constrains and work load, I do not have the time to become a guru at WPF.* I really need to have those things provided so that all I have to do is drag-and-drop onto the form and wire up the events (ideally). A colleague has recommended that I use Microsoft's Smart Client Software Factory.* I am downloading it and will be looking carefully at it, to see if it will give me what I need.* However, I see that the Smart Client Software Factory came out in May 2007, and VS 2008 was recently released.* I realize that this question is going to expose my gross ignorance, but* here goes: will the Smart Client Software Factory work with VS 2008, or will I have to do some tweaking with it in order to make it work? 11. Soon I'm going to scour the market for a good .NET library that allows me easy access to common archiver formats - ZIP, RAR, CAB and anything else that's in common usage.*I figured I'd toss it here, see if anyone has any good experience with such a library. My requirements: 1) Supports .NET 2.0 and (soon) 3.5. 2) Build for high performance and robustness. This will run as a server process and do an awful lot of work. 3) Support concurrent operations - single threaded is *so* 90's. 4) Support piped memory streams. I can't guarantree all my files will sit on a local/UNC disk, and they may come from different sources, so IStream it shall be. Anyone worked with a good one? I'd rather hear of personal experiences, since I can probably google up 5-6 solutions myself. These is the sort of thing where a press release can never really give you the full story. More... 12. Ok I am right now looking at this: http://browsershots.org/http://www.animesharp.com/forums/ and I am wondering what Firefox is doing. It's the same markup code, which is valid for those parts (CSS isn't completely). It's not that worse in other browsers and works perfectly fine in IE7. Anybody got an idea? Would help me a lot. :) More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds

  14. I've been using this*functionality in gridviews for a while, and I get the general idea of how it works, but I have the feeling that there are some features that I'm just not exploiting. Are there any good online resources for what can be done with this construct in ASP.Net? I've see 'Eval' be used, but I'm not sure what the difference is.* I was hoping for some condensed documentation on this, but I don't seem to be using the right google-fu to get this info to come up. 15. Hi everyone! I am a programmer by trade and I program exclusively on UNIX.* Well, actually I do Level 3 support and some programming.* I am trying to transfer into R&D so that I can do programming fulltime.* My manger is cool with that but we don't see it happening in the forseeable future.* (Years) I play with my home computer a lot and I decided that I want to teach myself Windows XP programming.* I want to learn how to do all kinds of things, the basics first then onward and upward.* I want to learn how to create rich, snazzy GUI's.* I currently have Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Professional installed on my computer. I'd like to program in C++ but I'm willing and able to learn something else. I kindly request from the community the following: - What development environment do I want? - What language do I want to use? - A list of books? - General advice? Basically, work sucks and I want to program, dang-it.* Given my age, salary and benefits, a new job is not an option, but boy I can dream. Thank you very much! More... 18. Sometimes I cannot retrieve cookies from the CookieContainer. The problem is in the way the class sets cookies or in the way it retrieves those cookies. Either way, the class is so restricted that I didn't find any workaround. Is there an official place to post the bug? Here is some simple lines to replicate the bug: Uri uri = newUri(http://my.opera.com/); //using CookieContainer.Add CookieContainer cc = newCookieContainer(); Cookie c = newCookie("opera_test", "12345", "/", "my.opera.com"); cc.Add©; Console.Write(cc.GetCookies(uri).Count); //Works! //using CookieContainer.SetCookies cc = newCookieContainer(); cc.SetCookies(uri, "opera_test=12345;path=/;domain=my.opera.com"); Console.Write(cc.GetCookies(uri).Count); //Doesn't work!? CookieContainer.Count shows 1 cookie but where is it? Cannot retrieve it using any variant of opera uri. Any help appreciated. Thanks! More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds

  23. Hello, http://www.devel.ws/untitled.jpg here's a screenshot of the data I need to get-- I have no idea what namespace I need to use in order to get this information but I was guessing using System.Net.NetworkInformation. I'm writing a service called ident-proxy which if you haven't guessed by the name why it's because the ident service is queried by clients "what user is using this source port"... clients such as irc servers. Because the ident server I am running is behind symmetric nat, I need to run an ident server on the router which will translate the external source port to the internal source port and re-query the real ident server-- hence why I need that data. I've tried a million ways to describe this while searching google, the closet I could come was netstat+c# which was pretty close, but not close enough. Any help would be appreciated. More... 24. I've been a bit late in comming across this, but I'm beginning to hear more and more of it. I first got wind of it on ScottGu's blog and put that in my 'to do' pile. Josh Smith has just created a WPF Podder application, something nice and gentle to enter the WPF world, and has used this MVC "stuff". Obviously ASP.NET is getting a whole framework, but what of this on a smart client? Is there any value in learning yet another way to build software? What are the benefits? More...
