  1. Press "PrtSc" [ Print Screen ] button > open Paint > CTRL + V > Save as ......... make sure it is .jpg extension. Save somewhere obvious - Desktop ? Click on Reply > Go Advanced > Manage Attachments > Add Files > Select Files Locate the jpg that you have just saved and click on it > Save > Upload Files This will allow you to add the picture as an Attachment. Click Done when the file has been added to the Attachment box.
  2. Hi Malcolm In the BIOS - is there any indication which one it is .............. AMI / Award / Phoenix for instance. Take a look around and see if there is an option to Reset: It could be something like ...... Reset to default, Load factory defaults, Clear BIOS settings, Load setup defaults Use the arrow keys. If you can't locate this - post the BIOS type and I will see if I can.
  3. Jimmy - you said in your first post: Now you say: Which is it ? You need to point the mouse curser at the "Command Prompt" box to highlight it - did you do this ? If this is a laptop - do you get the same problem if you use the mouse pad ?
  4. Hi Malcolm, I am trying to avoid doing a repair install. I am fairly sure that if we could get the mouse / keyboard functioning you would be able to boot up. Can you access the BIOS ? This is usually F2 or DEL key after first switching on. Try alternating between the two about once per second immediately after you switch on. If you can access the BIOS then it is probably a BIOS setting that is causing the mouse / keyboard problem.
  5. Can you turn this off and try the mouse again ? Your CMOS battery is shown in the bottom right picture with RTS on it. I assume that this had no effect ? Alternatively - try unplugging the keyboard and boot up again. Try the mouse to click on your User Name now.
  6. Hi Try this: Get the Search Box up > type in ...... command ..... Command Prompt will appear on the left of screen Right click on this ( assuming that you can ) At the bottom the option to "Run as Administrator" should appear. > click on this. You will now be looking at the black command prompt screen. Type in ...... sfc /scannow ..... note there is a space after sfc. Hit ENTER This will check the system files for you and attempt to repair any errors. You can run this twice if necessary as it sometimes picks things up on the second pass.
  7. I have just updated and run Speccy - no obvious problems
  8. Hi Malcolm, So neither mouse works. I know you are reluctant to go inside the case but honestly there is nothing to fear. It is just a circuit board with some connections. I would like you to take the CMOS battery out for a minute and then replace it. The + side is on top ......... this is important. It looks like this: http://pctechnotes.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/remove-battery.jpg This is a simple procedure. If you can do this it will reset the BIOS and possibly fix the mouse problem. If you are going to take a look inside the case switch the machine off at the wall socket first. The side panel is usually removed by taking 2 or 3 screws out from the back edge of the machine. =============== Is your keyboard active? does it light up the LEDs when booting ?
  9. Hi and welcome to ExTS I have just had a look at the specs you provided ............. I don't seem to be able to locate the PSU that you have. There will be a label on the PSU itself telling you what power ( Watts ) it is.
  10. I replied to this one earlier today - and the post has gone missing ............ along with a number of others !! I will try again. I have been away for a few days - sorry for the late reply :) Lenovo are a robust and solid machine. originally Lenovo was IBM. That is a bit expensive in my opinion. I did a quick search for 17 inch i5 laptop click here ( example only ) The first one needs a part exchange You need to have a good look around. ALSO ...... if you intend carrying the laptop from place to place a 17 inch is quite big.
  11. Hi Matt - I have been away for a few days .....sorry for the late reply :) Is this on the same system or another pc ? If it is the same system then a Repair Install will not fix Office problems - you need the Office installation disk.
  12. Hi Malcolm, I did reply to this thread much earlier today and the post seems to have disappeared !! So here is a second attempt: In your first post you stated that I assume that this is the screen you are having problems with? http://www.petri.co.il/images/xp_welcome_screen.jpg If so .... do you have a PS2 connection at the back of your tower? It looks like this....the green one is for the mouse http://www.computerhope.com/jargon/p/ps2.jpg If you are using PS2 already - do you have a USB mouse to try ?
  13. Hi and welcome. I replied to this earlier today and my post seems to have gone missing !! You should be able to use your 500GB drive no problem. If you know it is ok and in good order ...... Is it SATA or IDE ? click here - this should help If it is IDE ..... You need to make sure that the jumper at the back is set to "Master" if it is an IDE drive. For the time being also make sure that there is nothing else connected to the IDE cable. Is the CDROM the first boot device ? You will need to check in the BIOS. If it isn't then you will need to make changes so that it is for the XP disk to be recognised from switch on.
  14. Hi thanks for the feedback - good to hear that your system managed to fix itself :) There isn't a "Thanks" button as such ........ you have done it by posting :) I will mark this solved for you.
  15. Has it been like this from new - or could you move files/folders in the past ? Do you have a USB mouse that you can try ? Hold down left button > drag > release
  16. Hi I assume that you do have administrative privileges ? If you right click on a folder > Properties > Security Tab Your Account Name should show here. Do you have "Full Control"
  17. Hi and welcome to ExTS I am sure somebody here will have an idea or two :)
  18. Hi, I have just looked up the system requirements for AutoCad ( see below ) For 64-bit AutoCAD 2014 Windows 8 Standard, Enterprise, or Professional edition, Windows 7 Enterprise, Ultimate, Professional, or Home Premium edition (compare Windows versions), or Windows XP Professional (SP2 or later) Athlon 64 with SSE2 technology, AMD Opteron™ processor with SSE2 technology, Intel® Xeon® processor with Intel EM64T support and SSE2 technology, or Pentium 4 with Intel EM64T support and SSE2 technology 2 GB RAM (4 GB recommended) 6 GB free space for installation 1,024 x 768 display resolution with true color (1,600 x 1,050 recommended) Internet Explorer 7 or later Install from download or DVD Additional requirements for large datasets, point clouds, and 3D modeling (all configurations) Pentium 4 or Athlon processor, 3 GHz or greater, or Intel or AMD dual-core processor, 2 GHz or greater 4 GB RAM or more 6 GB hard disk space available in addition to free space required for installation 1,280 x 1,024 true color video display adapter 128 MB or greater, Pixel Shader 3.0 or greater, Microsoft® Direct3D®-capable workstation-class graphics card These will be minimum requirements. Your i3 processor should be fine. i5 would be better. 4GB RAM minimum ...... 6GB is better. It is increasingly difficult to find a new laptop that does not have Win 8 on it. Personally I would prefer Win 7. Take a look around and post here links to what you have found ( if you wish ) One of us will offer an opinion .... but the final choice will be yours :)
  19. Hi David I have deleted the links to the sites that you posted. We are not allowed to advertise. I assume that you have posted these elsewhere ? If so - this explains why you are listed on a spammers' database. You are welcome to contribute to the forums.
  20. If you take the module out of the 4th slot ..... do you still get 1.5 GB showing? If you DO then slots 1,2 and 3 are OK and the modules in them are OK. If you do get 1.5GB .... swap the odd RAM for the module in slot 3. What do you get now ? Still 1.5GB ? If so ..... It could be that there is a problem with slot 4 .......... and not the RAM module itself. Matched Pairs It depends on the motherboard. It is always best to use matched pairs if possible but it is not necessary on many m/boards. We need to find if the odd RAM module is being recognised. You could also try slots 1,2,and 4 with the same make modules and see if you still get 1.5 GB.
  21. Intel i5 = click here This will be compatible with the m/board you linked to. RAM DDR3 (10600 ) = 1333 Mhz ..... again will be compatible. AMD radeon hd 7950 ........ will be compatible. ============= They are not compatible. DDR3 is a far better option anyway. Twice as fast and uses less power.
  22. Hi, Autocad, and especially Photoshop will require more than just a basic machine. I suggest a machine with a decent processor and at least 8GB RAM. You don't suggest a budget. Can you give us some idea of what you are willing to spend ?
  23. Thanks for this feedback kennc Good to hear that your system is back to normal.
  24. Hi Gadgie I have copied your log into your post - our security experts prefer it this way. Most of these are PUP entries. PUP = Potentially Unwanted Programs ...............not necessarily bad. I will let one of the Security guys advise you further :)
  25. Did you buy this from eBay ? If so you can get you money back by contacting them. They will mediate on your behalf. If the seller will not reply to you then you COULD assume that the laptop was stolen in the first place. If this is the case he wouldn't know the login name or password. You may ask eBay if this is possible - obviously don't accuse the guy straight off. :)
