Hi and welcome to Fpch Have you checked the vents for dust ? I know you have Win 8 - is this an upgrade? How old is the machine? An older machine will probably have a build-up of dust. A can of compressed air used in short bursts through the vents may help.

Turn off ssid on netgear router
KenB replied to scheffing's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi and welcome to ExTS I don't see the link between adding a Mac Address and the SSID ?? If you are Mac Address filtering and have a security password your network is secure. I can see all of my neighbours' SSIDs but I cannot access their networks. Is there a specific reason why you wish to turn this off ? As stated - I cannot think why you drop the connection when SSID is not broadcasting. If you really want it disabled I will look further into this :) -
Hi - I am not a gamer and will ask one of our moderators to advise you re; hardware. I have just looked up the recommended system specs for BF4 Recommended system requirements The recommended PC system requirements for optimal visual quality and frame rates: Quad core CPU (Intel Core i5 or i7) at 3 Ghz 4 GB memory (8 GB for 64-bit operating systems) A modern DX11 graphics card with 2+ GB of video memory, GeForce 600 series or Radeon 7000 series Windows 7 64-bit operating system (Windows 8 is supported as well) 30+ GB of free harddrive space Battlefield 4 is slightly optimized for AMD hardware, since the game also runs on next gen consoles, which are powered by AMD CPUs and GPUs. This means that gamers with AMD PC graphics cards might see a slight advantage. Both Nvidia and AMD offer Battlefield 4 optimized PC drivers. If this is to be your main game then from the above it looks like an AMD cpu would be better than say an i5 And possibly look at AMD Graphics Card There is an article on BF4 and Graphics Cards here: click here

Hi and welcome to ExTS You have very little knowledge of the workings of a pc [ by what you say ] and you are considering spending £1000 on a first build. Is this wise? Would you be better spending your money on a system built by a specialist company ? Have you worked on a pc before ? Have you installed an OS for instance ? Changed a hard drive ? Upgraded a Video Card ? [ just trying to gauge the level of your knowledge :) )

Hi MH2 Try going to Device Manager ( Search Box > type in device manager > click on Settings ) Click the > next to Mice and other Pointing Devices Right click on the mouse pad > update driver software Use the automatic option [ you will need internet access ] If there is a newer driver this should install it. Failing that ... right click the mouse pad in Device Manager > Uninstall Reboot the machine Windows should re-install the drivers- 6 replies

CPU fan speeds up then youtube clip stops working
KenB replied to mij's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi Jim You need to be very particular when cleaning off the old paste. Use rubbing ( isopropyl ) alcohol - get it from a chemist. [ you don't need much ] When applying new paste use a very small amount ( about the size of a pea ) More is not good - you can have too much and this is as bad as not enough. Use something like an old credit card to spread it evenly and thinly over the surface. If you need more info Google "Applying Thermal Paste" -
Can i run this graphics card?
KenB replied to Curtis Argent's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
I doubt that you would see much of a difference. You would be better off making sure that the airflow through the case is as free as possible. Make sure wires are out of the way. Make sure that dust is kept to a minimum - especially around the CPU fan and case vents. You could consider adding a case fan or if you don't fancy cutting hole(s) there is always a slot fan that fits directly into a PCI slot. An additional fan would increase the airflow in the case. If you select a CPU with 1155 connections then the m/board that you select to go with it must also have an 1155 socket ( explained earlier ) We have been in the process of changing the board servers and some posts have gone missing. It could be that the link you used on 3rd Oct may have been damaged in the changeover. -

I'm confused now http://www.tenaflyguy.com/confused-smiley.jpg Is your system stable now ? You have deleted Windows Files Folder ........ but not sure which one Is this correct ? To check .... Start > Right click on MY Computer > Properties It will tell you there if it is Pro or Home. When you say "files" / "programs" ........ You could do this with files - e.g. photos / Word documents etc You would not be able to do this with installed programs. When you format you remove everything from the disk - including the registry When you re-install you will have a new registry - and no reference to the old installed programs. They will not function. If it isn't broken ...... don't fix it :)

Hi John I am literally on my way out. I will get back to you when I return. Please add a post here so that your thread pops up when I look at "New Posts" :) Let me know how the RAM testing goes ......... it is possible that it could be the cause. ( not the internet problem though )

Can't Understand Hard Drive Capacity Reading

With a new pc it is not worth playing with settings. The people who set it up should be able to give you a quick answer. :) Let us know how you get on. -
Hi and welcome to ExTS I suspect the RAM that you have put in. Do you still have the old RAM ? If so - try just one module in one of the slots. Swap for the other if no joy with the first one. Failing that - do the above with the new RAM. You are obviously looking for a stable system ( albeit slower ) If you can achieve this then we can assume that one, or more, of the new RAM modules is at fault. [Your m/board has a 4GB max ]

Can't Understand Hard Drive Capacity Reading

Hi I am sure Armageddon is correct with suspecting the Raid set-up. ( I am not too familiar with Raid ) If you go back to Disk Management and right click on C: partition ....... is there an option to Extend the Volume ? If this is new then I suggest that you give the place you bought it a ring and ask them - because you seem to be missing about 90% of one of your drives. -

Press PrtSc key ( top of keyboard ) Open Paint from Start > Paint Paste in the screen shot ( CTRL + V ) Save it to your desktop or somewhere you will be able to find it ( save as .jpg extension ) Now come back here and click on REPLY > Go Advanced ( bottom right ) Scroll down to Manage Attachments .....click on this Add Files > Select Files ...... find the Screen Shot that you did .....click on this Save > Upload Click Done ( bottom right ) This will attach your screen shot here :) -
Can't Understand Hard Drive Capacity Reading
KenB replied to wee scottie's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi and welcome to ExTS :) I suspect that your hard drive is partitioned with "New Volume" being the second partition. You don't say which operating system you have ?? If Win 7 Start > type in ....... diskmgmt.msc .......ENTER If Win 8 Mouse Curser to top right corner > In Search Box type Disk Management > click on Settings > Create and Format Hard Disk Partitions will show as a box Click on this or hit ENTER You should be looking at like this: ( This is an old image ) http://www.magicdatabackup.com/howtoimgs/Disk_Management_XP.gif Disk 0 is the main Hard Drive and in this case it shows 4 partitions.(C: ) (E: ) (F: )and (G: ) Disk 1 is the second hard drive with 3 partitions. What do you see against Disk 0 is Disk Management ? ( A screen shot would be useful ) -
Also .... Can you let us know what you have tried so far so we don't waste your time asking you to do the same over again :)

Windows XP can't open files access denied
KenB replied to mattd7uk's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
The MAINSP3.MSP is definitely referring to Office and not XP.----------------------- Office is an expensive piece of kit. If you can get hold of a disk ( same spec ) then you can try a repair. If you re-install you will need the key. Alternatively you can use Open Office. Equally as good - and free. If you want compatibility with other office installations then you just need to remember to save any document an a MS Office compatible format.
