  2. Can you boot up in Safe Mode? If you can try the following: Start ......type in ......cmd ......right click on cmd.exe that will appear top left of screen > click "Run as Administrator" At the prompt type ..... sfc /scannow ......hit ENTER [ there is a space after sfc ] This will scan the system files and attempt to fix any problems found. You can run this twice as sometimes it will find things on the second run. ================ If no improvement.... From Safe Mode try "Last Known Good Configuration " ================ If no better .... Can you try the above ( Post 18 ) if you boot up in Safe Mode ? =============== If still no better .... Things are not looking good. If you can boot up you need to back up files etc that you don't want to lose. =============== I don't suppose that you have a Win 7 installation disk do you ?
  3. Hi and welcome to ExTS Can you post a link to the site and software that you are trying to download please ? Can you download software from other sites ? As a test - can you download MBAM ( FREE ) from here? click here
  4. Hi again Which AntiVirus are you using ? ============== Try the following: ( Copied .....saves typing :) ) Open System Configuration by clicking the Start button http://res2.windows.microsoft.com/resbox/en/windows%207/main/4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33_818.jpg, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Security, clicking Administrative Tools, and then double-clicking System Configuration.* http://res2.windows.microsoft.com/resbox/en/windows%207/main/18abb370-ac1e-4b6b-b663-e028a75bf05b_48.jpg If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. Click the General tab, click Diagnostic Startup, click OK, and then click Restart. If the problem occurs now, then basic Windows files or drivers might be corrupted. ( suspect it is a driver ) If this is the case we may have to look at the "Startup Repair" option If the problem does not occur, then we will need to use Selective Startup mode to try to find the problem by turning individual services and startup programs on or off. This will be a long process.
  5. No need to apologise :) Did you roll back the video drivers as I suggested earlier ?
  6. Looks like a bargain. I have seen that much more expensive click here I note that there are only 2 left.
  7. Hi and welcome to ExTS If you are paying £500 for that particular laptop I am sure that you can find one - same spec - lower price. Take a look here: click here The Aspire V3-571 gets a good write-up. ( I have this one ) Read the reviews - make notes on the specs for comparison. There are other options too. You should be able to save at least £50 on what you have posted a link to.
  8. I should use that as my signature :) :)
  9. I can hardly contain my excitement :)
  10. I think I can just about manage to live without it :)
  11. Can we mark this one as "solved" ? :)
  12. Not bad for free software :)
  13. You are very welcome - we are glad that you found us helpful....again :)
  14. Thanks for the log. I will ask one of our security experts to take a look and advise you further. There is a time zone to take account of for one of them so please be patient.
  15. That could be it. Go to Device Manager > click on the + next to "Display Adapters" > Properties > Driver > Roll Back Driver This will un-install the recent update and revert back to the old driver for the device To get to Device Manager ...... Start ....type in .....devmgmt.msc .....ENTER ================== Malwarebytes produces a log. Just to be on the safe side - can you open MBAM > Logs click on the most recent. It will open in Notepad. Copy the complete log and post it here please.
  16. I don't think you are missing anything :)
  17. Ask her to try this piece of software before she formats it - ( could even try afterwards as long as it has not been overwritten ) click here Try Recuva first.
  18. Hi and welcome to ExTS If your machine does not do this during Safe Mode - it is likely that the problem is driver related, Have you up-dated / installed any drivers recently ? What did you use for the malware scan ?
  19. Hi Steve If you click on the folder you will probably see a whole pile of files - possibly other folders too. You are looking for one with a .exe extension. Probably setup.exe .... Click on this. It should install from here :)
  20. Sorry Steve...I should have added a bit more ..... Yes. Download to a memory stick. Actually - you can run it from there on the problem machine.
  21. Hi Steve Try downloading the driver for your LAN card from here; ( agree to the terms and conditions first ) click here Suggest you d/l it to your desktop - easier to locate afterwards. You should then delete the old SIS 191 from Device Manager by right clicking on it - uninstall. Reboot the machine. Install the new drivers. It could be that the card is damaged - but this is worth a try. If this doesn't sort the LAN ( ethernet ) connection we will revert back to the wireless option.
  22. Start ....type in .....devmgmt.msc ......ENTER Click the > next to Network Adapters. 1. What is listed ? 2. Any yellow exclamation marks or red Xs ?
  23. Hi Rob You said earlier that if you cancelled the diskcheck that you could use the laptop normally. If this is still the case: Boot up and download Sea Tools for Windows from here - click here Install and run it. There is some instructional data on the site if you need it. Let me know the results - especially if any aspects of the drive is failed.
  24. Hi Steve Is it possible to try an ethernet cable direct to the router from this machine ? This would indicate if it was a distinct wireless problem or not.
  25. I said in my previous post to ignore the download link - it is ALL internet based ..... nothing to download. Take another look.
