  1. Strange - the top two are Audio Drivers when I look. Realtek and Sigmatel. If you see them - The top one looks to be Vista ( 32 bit ) and the Sigmatel is XP. If, when you click on the download button, you get the option ............select "Run". This will install the drivers direct.
  2. This could be due to the poor connection speed - it should not have taken anywhere near that long. I don't think it is worth getting one of our security experts in at this stage - based on your MBAM log. Can you disable the firewall again and also open Essentials and take "Real Time Scanning" off. Try the connection again. Remember to enable both again. ========== If you are using Internet Explorer click on Tools > Manage Add Ons Disable all Add-Ons You can do this by clicking on the individual Add-On .....there should be a box to "Disable" ============ Do you get the same slow connection speed if you use a different browser ? ============ Have you tried a different connection port on the router ? ============ Do you have another computer that you can connect via cable to the router ? This would let us know if it was your machine specifically or a router problem.
  3. I am certain that the installation you have is illegal. I suggested that you contact Dell in my last post and use Microsoft Validation Tool to make sure. We are obliged by our code of conduct to assist ONLY with legal machines and operating systems. I do not believe that what you have installed is legal. Please contact Dell and run the Validation Tool. Until you can convince me that this is a legal install I am afraid that I will have to close the thread - sorry. You can PM me to keep me informed of any progress.
  4. Hi - sorry for taking so long to get back to you. Download MBAM from here: click here You want the FREE version. You will get re-directed to a Mirror Site ....this is OK. Install > update it > run It will produce a log in Notepad. Copy this and post it here please.
  5. Hi Does your PC have wireless capability ? If so - what speed do you get using that ? Are you running 2 firewalls at once ? Are you running 2 AVs at once ?
  6. This confirms what Nev was saying earlier ....... Driver issue or the sound chip has packed up. You have tried the drivers that Nev suggested. It looks like you will need to install an inexpensive PCI sound card. one example - click here You could give the drivers here a try: click here It is a T5052 ...........I know you say yours is a 5250. No harm done if they don't work.
  7. I doubt it. When Dell - or any other manufacturer - buy a bulk license from Microsoft they do so under certain conditions. One of those conditions would be that the installation disk is for distribution with a new machine and is not for re-sale. I am certain that this disk is not legal. Give Dell a ring on this number - 01344 373727 ( UK ) This will get around using the premium rate number they usually supply. Have you verified the installation ? This will confirm or not. click here
  8. This is your problem. Dell ( along with HP / Acer / Sony etc ) install Operating Systems using OEM software. This disk and Product Code will be tied to one specific machine - and that would be a Dell machine. If this is anything like older HP disks - the software will check the hardware on your system and if it is not a Dell machine will refuse to install. The Product Key would not activate even if you did manage to get it installed. Chances are this disk has been used before and there is already a machine out there using the same Product Code. It is illegal to use it twice. I am fairly certain that it is illegal to sell on a Dell ( or any other manufacturer's ) install disk. You need to get your money back from the ebay seller.
  9. Hi ( Assuming XP ) Click on Start > Run ....type in ....mmsys.cpl ......ENTER Click on the Audio tab Confirm that the sound card that you want to use is displayed in the Default Device box under Sound Playback. If the sound card that you want to use is not displayed in the Default Device box, click the sound card that you want to use. ( Down arrow to display options ) Click to select the Use only default devices check box, and then click OK. You will probably need a re-start.
  10. Hi Start > type in ...... sfcdetails.txt .....[ do not hit enter ] If the text file has been produced it will be shown top left of the box that appears If you click on this it should open in Notepad.
  11. Hi, try the following: Start ...type in ....cmd ......right click on cmd.exe that appears top left of screen > Run as Administrator At the prompt type .... findstr /c:"[sR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >sfcdetails.txt [ there is a space after findstr ] This should show the log. Copy this and past it here please.
  12. This could be your problem. If you navigate to : C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log Click on the most recent log ( there should only be one ) Can you copy this and paste it here please - it may be possible to identify the problem ( it may not :) )
  13. Thanks Nev - that may be a bit cheaper ...... and a little more versatile :)
  14. Hi PS2 connections: http://img.tomshardware.com/us/2005/11/23/pc_interfaces_101/ps2_both.jpg If you have these you can get a PS2 mouse - this should work. We can use this until we find out what is wrong with your USB / Wireless. ( the green and purple connections ) Keyboard Shortcuts click here This may help you navigate without the mouse for the time being. If you can get to Device Manager ....... are your mouse ( wired ) and keyboard listed there ?
  15. Hi That makes a difference :) The Hot Fix is there for 32 bit - you just need to reveal it. Click on "Show hotfixes for all platforms and languages " You then want the x86 which is the 32 bit version. click here
  16. I wonder if the USB ports have died. Does the desktop have USB ports at the back as well as the front? Have you tried them with the mouse? Does the keyboard work? Some desktops have PS2 sockets - small round ones ( Green / Purple ) - has yours ? ( they will be at the back ) I am here for most of the morning :)
  17. That is a distinct possibility Nev :)
  18. Is the hard drive formatted ? Have you checked connections ? Is the Win7 disk a full version original or a copy ?
  19. Hi "Tunnel Adapter" is not uncommon to be seen in IPconfig /all It is linked with IPv6 and an IPv4 network. If you have since disabled IPv6 then "Tunnel Adapter" will probably disappear. 192.168.1.6 is actually yours. Well ..... it is allocated by the router to connected devices Re "Millie" Do you know anybody called "Millie" ? If you still think that there is un-authorised access on your system I would suggest that you re-install Win7. Ensure that you format and re-install not just a repair reinstall.
  20. That confirms that the DVD drive is OK. :) Let's try checking the system files for errors: Start ....type in .....cmd .....right click on the cmd.exe that appears top left > Run as Administrator At the prompt type in ... sfc /scannow......... ENTER [ note - there is a space after SFC ] This will scan system files and attempt to correct any errors.
  21. You only answered part of my questions: If you are unsure - just ask :)
  22. You don't have an account to log in ? ( or is this your named admin account ) I'm sorry - I can't read the detail on the attachments :( I can see "Administrators ( J1PC \Users ) " highlighted in the bottom pic. I assume that is you ? In which case it is showing full control. How do you know that your settings were changed specifically by "Admin User Account" ? If you go to Control Panel > Users How many Admin accounts are shown ? How many should there be ?
  23. Hi and welcome to ExTS. Could be - but unlikely. Right click on the drive letter > Properties This will show you a graph of the drive. [ Used space / Free space ] Is it full ? Do you have backup software running ? Which AV are you using ? Can you take a look at the files on the new drive - there will be some big ones. Are the file extensions all the same? What is the file extension ? ( this will give an indication as to what is causing the problem ) The file extension is .doc / .jpg etc after the file name.
  24. Hi Don and welcome to ExTS I Googled that KB077178 and got absolutely nothing ?? Try this as a "work around" Take a look in the BIOS and AHCI should be enabled. If you change this to IDE ....do you still get the same problem ?
