  1. Hi Is this the sticky you are referring to ? click here If it is you need to have had Win7 on your system before as you would need the 25 character Product Code off the Microsoft label. This system has no O/S - so you would be expected to buy one. Adding to the cost. ( about £125 for Win 7 Pro full version )
  2. Hi and welcome to ExTS :) If you have run MBAM and it found nothing at all then it is unlikely to be malware. Have you tried a different browser? Which browser are you using ? ============ When you next get the problem ...... Start > type in ....cmd .....right click on the cmd.exe that appears top left of screen > Run as Administrator At the command prompt type in .... ipconfig /all ( space after ipconfig ) Copy the log and post it here please. Right click on the log > select all > CTRL+C CTRL + V to paste it here. ( you will obviously need internet access ) If you need to re-boot paste the log into Notepad or similar and save it first.
  3. Hi and welcome to ExTS :) If Seedy21's option doesn't do it for you............ ( try Last Known Good Configuration from the list too ) If the Mouse and keyboard are USB ............... try a PS2 mouse ( and keyboard ) The PS2 connections can be found on the back of your tower. They are green and purple - round in shape. Try to borrow them - but they would be relatively cheap to buy. There is an adapter you can buy http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/57/USB_to_PS2_mouse_adapter.jpg These cost next to nothing. ( be aware - you want a USB to PS2 adapter - not the other way around ) Once you get the mouse and keyboard connected using a couple of these - they should be functioning and we can take it from there.
  4. Hi Nev I worked at Meccano for 4 years in my 20's - I was a toolmaker. The Hornby trains were originally made there and although they had been sold off when I arrived the big room that the girls used to assemble Dinky Toy cars in was still called "The Train Room". The writing was on the wall even when I was there. The whole building is gone now - flattened.
  5. The next step is to strip down the motherboard of cards / RAM etc . click here I know you get POST beep - but follow the process anyway. Once you have the m/board stripped down - switch on and watch the fans / LEDs etc on the m/board. They should remain stable. If you don't get a "shut-down" then add the video card and connect up the monitor. Switch on again. Hopefully at this stage you will get something on screen. If it shuts down here - it looks like a video problem ......and as it is integrated you may need to try a cheap video card.
  6. Are you re-living your mis-spent youth ?
  7. Hi If you are getting re-directed this could possibly be malware. Download MBAM from here; click here You want the FREE version. Install > Update > Run It will produce a log in Notepad. Copy this and post it here please. Please make sure that you tick the box and delete anything that it finds after the scan.
  8. Hi Grey area in my opinion. You should be OK as - technically - you are the "system builder". There was a cheaper option ..... If the retailer will accept the un-opened package back again we can possibly do this for no cost using an ISO download. You would need the original Win7 sticker off the machine. Is this a possibility ?
  9. Keep us informed Alan - I am sure that this will solve your problem.
  10. Hi Nev / Bazman I have removed the "Solved" from the thread title for the time being :) Let's hope the clean video card solves the problem :)
  11. Hi, I suspect that this is a motherboard problem. You should, at least, be able to access the BIOS. Try taking the CMOS battery out for 1 minute then replace. The + is on top. This will reset the BIOS to defaults. Let me know if this helps.
  12. Hi Nicholas100 Good to hear that you found a solution. If you can - could you post a link to the Hot-Fix please? This may help others with a similar problem.
  13. The last new one I had was when my eldest was about 7 - he is 32 now :)
  14. Good question. You need to get internet access - so LAN drivers and Wireless divers are a must. You need the 64 bit ones for your system. Unfortunately it is difficult to tell which specific ones as you have no way of knowing which specific Wireless Adapter you have. It will be a case of trial and error until you get the right one. Try clicking on Start .....type in ....devmgmt.msc ....ENTER Click the > next to Network Adapters. What is listed ? If you have a cable to connect to the router ( ethernet cable ) try the LAN drivers first. You can also d/l the Touch Pad driver. You could save these to a memory stick if you wish.
  15. Nice set of pics Nev You are indeed multi-functional :) Hopefully I will not have this problem shortly - I am picking up my brand new motor on Tuesday :) Vauxhall Antara http://www.netcarshow.com/Vauxhall-Antara-2007-wallpaper.jpg Mine is black too.
  16. Hi and welcome to ExTS Is this just one BEEP? ( this is normal ) If not - let us know the sequence ...... ( one long 2 short for instance ) Can you boot up in Safe Mode ? Switch on and tap F8 about once per second. You will get an Advanced Startup list. Select Safe Mode from there.
  17. Windows should recognise the HDD as such and automatically install the drivers for it. One thing you can try that occasionally has a degree of success is to wrap the drive in cling-film then put it in a plastic bag. Try to get all of the air out to stop condensation. Put it in the freezer over night. Connect it up again and try. This is rather odd behaviour - but it has had limited results ........worth a try :) The drivers for your machine are here: click here You need to click on "Drivers"
  18. No - I am afraid not. If you haven't found the drivers for the wireless adapter post your pc make and model number - we may be able to find them using that. That must be a physical problem - unless Windows has not installed the drivers for this too. The pc make and model number will let us find out if it is separate drivers.
  19. Hi No problems with the ISO :) I did write something on the very same subject here: http://extremetechsupport.com/threads/14964-Re-Install-Win-7-on-OEM-Legal-Download Your ISO needs to exactly the same OS that was on your system originally. You will need the Product Key from the Microsoft sticker on the underneath of the laptop. You will also need to phone to activate. This is automated - nobody on the other end. The mousepad problems should sort themselves out with the re-install. There are one or two things that we can try to get access to your drive. The clicking is made by the read head knocking against a stop as it arcs across the disk looking for data that it cannot find.
  20. Hi I took the liberty of using your post details to find out where you lived :) I did find one in the UK - but out of stock. This is your PSU http://www.palmtechnology.co.uk/store/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/p/s/psu0425_1.jpg It looks like a standard ATX PSU. However - there is a small bracket with slots in .....on the cable side. Is this used for mounting the PSU ? What is the make and model number of your PC ?
  21. Hi and welcome to ExTS Not good. A clicking hard drive is dead or dying - it sounds as if yours has died. Where did you d/l the ISO image from ? I looks like a new HDD is needed ( there is no guarantee that they will last longer than 18 months - in fact they have been known to die within weeks )
  22. Hi and welcome to ExTS Do you still have internet access with this machine ? If so - Download MBAM from here click here scroll down for the FREE version. Install > Update > Run it on Quick scan. It will produce a log in Notepad. Copy this and post it here please. This will check out your system for malware - if there is any evidence it will show in the log. One of our security experts will advise further if necessary.
  23. Hi I think Armageddon was going to suggest a re-install of the Operating System. This is always a last resort - but it looks as if we have run out of ideas. Would you be prepared to try this? All of your data would need backing up as you would lose everything. Do you have an installation disk or recovery disks ?
  24. Hi Alan It looks as if you are going to have to spend a little on an inexpensive sound card as Nev suggested earlier. If Nev couldn't find the problem then I knew we were going to struggle. example - click here Make sure your choice is compatible with XP. I Googled "PCI sound card" PCI is the type of slot on your motherboard - there are different ones ( PCI express x 1 for instance ) I think your m/board has 2 PCI slots and one PCIe x 1 ( a very small slot )
  25. Hi jacamo I have not used Magician or Ghost ( I use Macrium Reflect ) I took a look at the Magician manual and to be honest, there isn't any detail there to explain how to clone your drive. ( unless I am missing something ) click here for manual If they are suggesting using Ghost there must be a reason. Somebody else here may be able to assist with Ghost - alternatively I can direct you to a Macrium Reflect Tutorial of mine.
