  1. I would suggest that this is a last resort. Let us know what you want to do :)
  2. If you right click on Disk 1 - what options do you get ( if any ) ? EDIT - Dave got there first :) Obviously DO NOT format the drive if prompted.
  3. Hi Did this just happen ? Could you connect previously? What did you do last before you "lost" the connection? Try switching the router off > leave for 30 seconds > switch it back on. Start > type in .....devmgmt.msc ......ENTER Are there any yellow exclamation marks next to "Network Adapters" ( click on the > at the side ) What is listed ? What is the make and model number of your router ?
  4. Hi and welcome to ExTS Do you have a different computer to try this disk on ? This is not possible. RAM is temporary memory. When you switch off then re-boot the RAM is wiped and starts off again. The DVD CDROM drive has no memory to write to anyway. If you can - try the CD in another machine and if you get the same problem it lies with the disk.
  5. You are welcome :)
  6. Hi and welcome. Starbuck will sort any malware problems that you have. ( ref other thread ) :)
  7. Hi Try clicking on "Tools" just above "Export PDF Files" There is probably an option there to hide the panel.
  8. Good luck with the new installation :)
  9. Hi Bumblebee and welcome to ExTS To get to Disk Management as Armageddon suggests ......... Start ...type in ...diskmgmt.msc ....ENTER The main drive on the pc will be "Disk 0" The DVD will show up there too. A screen shot would be useful if you can provide one.
  10. No - not really. I didn't notice any difference. OK - my sister has that package too. That's good to hear - can we mark this one as "Solved" ? Not into vinyl - but the site looks interesting :)
  11. Looks as if you have a problem here - could be the battery itself or the circuit on the motherboard. If you have problems with the Wireless connection give us a shout :) Just a thought: McAfee will be for the "trial period" that comes with a lot of new PCs. There are good free ones out there ( Microsoft Security Essentials for one ) I would take McAfee off the system and use MSE.
  12. Hi You still have the two options ( external enclosure or re-install ) Probably best to try the Recovery Disk and re-install the Operating System. You said earlier that you have a disk - simply pop this into the CDROM drive and switch on. If it doesn't "see" the disk you need to tap F12 and select CD/DVD from the options. Follow the information on screen. =========== If, for some reason, there is a problem and the installation stops it could be the hard drive itself. If this is the case then we do need an external enclosure so that we can test the drive. There is another option that uses a CD - you would need to burn this from an ISO download. Seatools - click here
  13. Hi The Boot Menu ( F12 ) will be giving you the option of booting from CDROM / USB etc Is this correct ? F2 should take you into the BIOS. ( Phoenix is a BIOS manufacturer ) If you start tapping F8 immediately you see this on screen you should get the Startup Options - before it gets to the Toshiba bar. If you can't get this to run don't worry. It would have been helpful. ============ If you get this far down the post then there are 2 options open. 1. Get hold of a Hard Drive to USB Adapter ( previous post ) and we can try one or two things with it attached to another pc. 2. Bite the bullet and use the Recovery Disk that you have and re-install the Operating System If you do this the system will be reinstalled exactly as it was when you first bought it. All installed software will be gone. All saved files will be gone. Doing option 1 first lets us check out the drive condition. If we need to re-install then at least we know that the drive is good. Let me know which way you want to go.
  14. With the battery out and - after you get this message above - unplug the mains. Leave for 30 seconds then plug back in. When you try to boot up again hopefully you will get an error message and options ........... Do You ? ============ We are going to have to take the hard drive out anyway to retrieve the data from it. ( We can also check it over on another machine ) I suggest that you get hold of one of these: click here It is a "caddy" or enclosure. You can put your problem drive into it and attach it to the USB ports of a working computer to gain access to the drive. This is a cheap one - but it works ( I have one ) NOTE - this is for SATA drives ONLY. Older drives are IDE - different connections. You would need to check the connections on your drive - if unsure click here Once we have the drive connected to another machine - and it is recognised as a drive - we can take off it anything that is needed. We can also run some tests to see if the drive is actually OK. Let me know what you would like to do.
  15. Hi and welcome to ExTS This is associated with Real Player Try un-installing it and see if your performance improves.
  16. Hi I wasn't going to suggest a complete re-install ......yet. Switch on and constantly tap F8 ( about once per second ) Can you get to the advanced startup options ? If you can I think there should be an option to "Repair your Computer" ( This may be on the installation disk ) Give this a try.
  17. Hi As you say - not good. Do you have anything on the hard drive that you need to recover - files / photos etc? I suggest that before you start trying to fix the Boot-manager problem you get the important stuff off that hard drive and back it up. Do you have a Vista installation disk ? ( not recovery disks )
  18. Hi In Vista there is an "Advanced Search" option where you can search for files created after a specific date. Start > click on Documents In the toolbar at the top you will see a "Search" box Type something into this then scroll down to the bottom. You should see "Advanced Search" ............click on this. You are looking for files created after 1 June 2013 Use the down arrow on "Date" and select "Created" Change the "Location" to C: Make sure the date is showing "After" then select 1 June. This should give you some idea of where your space is going. ( you could also try "Modified" - this will throw up files that have been added to ) It may not be 1 big file you are looking for. It could be lots of files of the same type added together.
  19. Hi - before the clean-up you had 2.13GB free Now you have 1.24 GB free space ?? Something is eating up your drive. ( unless you can account for over 1GB ? ) Did you have a closer look at "Treesize" to try to discover what ?
  20. Try it from here click here Use the @majorgeeks d/l not the authors site. =========== Re Treesize If you can move the photos then you will gain 15GB If you click on Users / Daughters you should get further information. Number of folders / average file size etc. If all of this looks OK then I suggest moving the photos to another drive. Also run TFC if you can as this will delete temporary files - which are not needed.
  21. What is showing in Device Manager against network adapters ? Start ....type in ....devmgmt.msc ..ENTER
  22. The driver for that LAN adapter can be found here: click here You need to click on UK1 or one of the other locations
  23. I am not familiar with that AV - although McAfee has been known to hog resources. Download "Treesize" from here: click here You want the FREE version. After you run it - it should show you where the disk space is being used up.
  24. Hi and welcome to ExTS I have spent some time looking for you - with no results I am afraid. It is the 140 Watts that is the problem :( Have you thought of changing the CPU ? I see from your profile that you are a "Computing Graduate in Hardware" I hope you intend to stick around and jump in when you feel like contributing. :) Hopefully one of the other guys here may have more luck.
  25. It seems that the backup option is not the cause of your problem. Which Anti Virus are you using. I have seen Norton ( for one ) using up a lot of space storing scan results.
