  1. Hi To identify which hard drive you have ..... click here
  2. That is good to hear :)
  3. Hi Ray This has got to be a setting then. Did you try the "Open GL" mode offered from the pop-up saying "DirectX not supported" ? Found a thread that suggested a third party 3D viewer ( viewsonic in this case ) had the driver conflicting. Un-installed - all OK Do you have anything similar on your system ?
  4. Hi There are a number reasons why trace route will not complete. The last IP Address ( 212.111.33.234) belongs to Telecitygroup International Limited as does the one before it ( 217.20.44.193 ) The trace has got beyond Virgin so I doubt that it is a router problem. All of the hops are in and around London. It could be that the next hop has blocked trace route requests. What happens if you try to ping www.activeshooter.co.uk You should get 4 packets sent and received - no losses. Then try to ping 178.79.160.68 This is the IP Address of activeshooter Again - you should get 4 packets sent and received. Get to the command prompt as described earlier.
  5. Hi and welcome to ExTS I think this may be the problem .... This should solve it. Let us know the results :)
  6. Hi and welcome to ExTS :) Please answer BreatGrittain's question and also post the make and model number of the router. ============== Try this too: Start > type in ......cmd .............right click on cmd.exe that appears top left > Run as Administrator At the prompt type .... tracert www.activeshooter.co.uk ......[ there is a space after tracert] If your router is the problem this will time out very early on. copy the result and post it here please. This may help click here [the method is the same]
  7. This would be a last resort. We need to know if you get the same problem from the on-board video. If you don't then it is your card that is the cause.
  8. When you get the Disk Read Error message ............ check in the BIOS to see if the drive is still recognised. Also try ... Pull the CMOS battery for 1 minute and replace. This will re-set the BIOS to defaults. Try the re-install again.
  9. Welcome from me too :)
  10. Hi You could try installing Revo Uninstaller and see if that picks Oberon up. click here
  11. Is there an option in the BIOS to disable the on-board video or set the 440GT as the Primary Video Device. This will probably be under "Advanced " I think the BIOS is looking for the on-board option and is not set to auto - detect the card.
  12. This is ODD !! Try this: Start > Control Panel > Internet Options > Delete Delete cookies and temp Internet Files. Any sites that Windows stores login data for you will need to be accessed with the login and password again. I am thinking ( hoping :) ) it may be a corrupt cookie. ============= Have you tried updating the video drivers ? I would be interested to know if it is OK from the on-board video too =============
  13. I am afraid so. There is one other thing that you could try : Wrap the drive in cling-film and put it in a plastic bag - try to get all of the air out. You don't want any condensation forming. Put the drive in the freezer over night. Connect it up again and see if it is recognised. This seems a bit daft but freezing can sometimes free a jammed spindle or other mechanical part. If this fails - shock treatment. Bang the drive flat onto a table or worktop. Normally you wouldn't do this of course - but it is dead anyway. :)
  14. . ?? When you take the nvidia 440gt out what are you connecting the monitor to ? On-board Video ?
  15. There is no test that I know of with a meter if the capacitor is on-board. Do it visually. You are looking for blown ( raised ) tops or discolouration / staining. Does this help: click here
  16. This is with the on-board graphics ? Have you tried updating the drivers of your AGP Video Card ?
  17. Hi, Try this ... Start .....type in ......cmd......right click on the cmd.exe that appears top left of screen > Run as Administrator At the prompt type....C: then ENTER You will see C:\> Now type ..... ATTRIB -h *.* then hit ENTER (there is a space between ATTRIB and -h and between -h and *.* If there are hidden files on the C: drive this will reveal them. I am thinking that the photos may have been hidden. =============== If the above doesn't work .... Try running System Restore from Safe Mode Switch on > constantly tap F8 about once per second > select Safe Mode from the list of options. ========== Have you looked in the Recycle Bin ? ========== Try Recuva software click here If they have been deleted you may be able to locate them ( or some of them ) with this.
  18. When you say the drive is working - there could be damaged sectors that only a test would show up. Question: When you get the error message when the machine starts re-booting ....... have you used the second disk at this stage ? If not - try swapping to the second disk ( even if it doesn't prompt you to ).
  19. If you did - our help would stop here. If you think you have a virus we can help with that. Re-installing should be a last resort. See here if you want one of our experts to look at your system. click here Do what you can. We would need to see the MBAM log / OTL log / Extras log You would need to use 2 or 3 posts to provide this information.
  20. If the CDROM is first in the boot order and you have tried this with 2 hard drives - it is pointing to the CD. Have you run a check on the hard drive just to be sure ? download WINDFT from here: ( It will test any drive ) click here You will have to connect the drive to the working computer - obviously :)
  21. I had assumed this in my previous replies. If you only have recovery disks you will not be able to do this. ( I said this earlier ) Recovery disks will revert the drive to how it was when you first got the machine. That is C: partition and the recovery partition. Partition E: will be deleted and absorbed into C: If, however you have a full installation disk you can do what you suggest in option 2. ( format C: and re-install XP ) I repeat again - if you use the recovery disks you will lose partition E: and end up with one big partition for C: ( if this is how it was when you created the recovery disks ) With recovery disks there is only one solution .... ================ You have never said why you need to re-install XP ?? ================
  22. Hi without the XP disk the errors will not be able to be corrected. Your profile says XP - Pro. If you look at the label on the side of the case - does it say XP Pro OEM ? If it is a full - non-OEM installation you can borrow a disk if you know of anybody with one and use that.
  23. I assume that the CDROM is the first in the Boot Order in the BIOS ?
  24. If I understand your first post - you only have one hard drive. I am assuming that this is partitioned into 2 partitions ( C:\ and E:\ say ) C:\ will be the primary partition with Windows on it. E:\ will be a section on the hard drive that you have created to store data. I am not sure what you mean by "extract all drives". It is possible to format C:\ for example - but if you only have recovery disks this is of no use to you. As explained - if you use manufacturer's recovery disks they will return the hard drive to the state it was in when the system was originally sold. I would save the data you don't want to lose to an external hard drive or DVD. Use the recovery disks. Check in disk management if you have lost the extra partition. If you have - re-create the partition and save the data back to it.
  25. As you say - repairing printers is probably more expensive than buying a new one. I once worked out how much a litre of printer ink would cost ..............!!!! ( I can't print what I said :) )
