  2. This is a forum for people who have PROBLEMS with their computers ........... however....... I used to work in education and I know how difficult it is to get research done. This is why I have left your post. Other forums may treat it as spam - which is what B-C has done. We will leave it. Hope you get a few replies :)
  3. Do you still get the same message ?
  4. Take a look here: click here See what it says :)

  7. Let us know the results :)
  8. Hi Try going into the BIOS You are looking for "Integrated Peripherals" Then "USB Controller" ......this should be Enabled. Save and Exit ( usually F10 ) There are many variations on the BIOS settings so I cannot be any more specific.
  9. Hi and welcome to ExTS Check the RAM by doing the following: click here How much RAM do you have ? You could also take 1 module out and try running off the other. Swap the modules over if the first module produces the black screen. Switch off - unplug the mains and take the battery out first.
  10. Hi Kath and welcome to ExTS I assume this was working OK until you replaced the fan. Was this the CPU fan? If so, if you removed the heatsink - did you clean the old thermal paste off with rubbing alcohol and replace with an even thin layer ? Did you try "Last Known Good Configuration" ? Assume this is XP - do you have a full install CD ( not recovery disks ) ? Also assume that this is a desktop machine ( not a laptop ) ? Do you have anything on the hard drive that you need access to ? Lots of questions and assumptions - please answer as fully as you can :)
  11. So 3D is actually working ( in a fashion ) ? This could be due to the amount of RAM you have.
  12. Poking my nose in ( as usual :) ) Leah, Open Notepad > Format ( in the toolbar at the top ) > uncheck "Wordwrap"
  13. It could be a corrupt cookie - let us know the result
  14. Hi Ray Try deleting the cache and browsing history Start > Control Panel > Internet Options > Delete If "Preserve Favourites Website Data" is there and checked .......uncheck it. Put a check against Cookies / History / Temp Internet Files ...........................Delete.
  15. Hi Ray I had a full head of hair when I started this thread - now most of it has gone :) You have probably done this - but humour me ..... Start > type in ....dxdiag .....ENTER Click the Display tab, and then under DirectX Features, check to see whether DirectDraw, Direct3D, or AGP Texture acceleration are enabled.
  16. I said I was being dumb - I was comparing the link with the image in the post :) Keep us posted as you say - hopefully all will be OK now.
  17. Unless I am being particularly dumb ( no comments Mods !! :) ) I don't see it. The fact that your wireless connection is now working will, no doubt, remain a mystery. It could be a problem with the adapter itself or it could be a problem with the router. I have had this sort of thing before and the router was failing. The connection would drop - and for no reason connect again by itself. It could be a problem with the Winsock. ( software ) I am not suggesting that this is the cause of your problem. Just that wireless networks are complex and there could be a number of reasons that cause the same problem. Let's hope that things stay as they are. If not - you know where to post :)
  18. Hi David 80% recovered - excellent :) I am pleased that you managed to get back many of the missing files. I will mark this one up as "Solved".
  19. [Edit]-----[beaten by Ken] Ah - but you provided more information :)
  20. Hi and welcome to ExTS Download Speccy from here click here You want the free version. Run it - it will show some temperatures. Leave it open and monitor the temperatures - let us know what the high ones are ......especially under load.
  21. Hi Ray Use the NVidia site click here Use the Auto detect ( option 2 ) Lets see what that comes up with.
  22. What version is the driver ? In device manager right click on the MX440 > Properties > Driver There may be a more recent version that is not found by the auto-search.
  23. Thanks for the feedback. If you put the laptop in to have it cleaned the guys should not have touched the CPU. I wonder if it was just coincidence ? Anyway - you are up and running again which is the important thing :)
  24. Thanks for that reminder Ray - it SHOULD work then. I have just read back through the thread ..... I did suggest updating the Video Card Drivers earlier but the link was to an early version ...... there should be a more recent driver. Let's give this a go. Start > type in ..... devmgmt.msc ...... Hit ENTER Click the > next to Display Adapters > right click on the Device ( should be MX 440 ) > Update Drivers When prompted select Automatic You will need an internet connection.
  25. I have to agree with Vr5fx - this looks like an over-heating problem. 90 deg C on a Processor and m/board is getting pretty hot. I have just had a friends laptop in and it is doing exactly the same - shut down ....no warning. This is due to temperature too. ============== Is it ONLY this game that causes this problem ? ============== Run "Can you Run it ?" and let us know what it says. click here I have just looked up System Requirements for F-M 2013 There is nothing too taxing here i5 Processor = fine 6 GB RAM = more than enough Found this re. your GeForce GT 540M Call of Duty: Black Ops and StarCraft 2 ran fluently in high details and 1360x768. More gaming benchmarks can be found below. Demanding games released in 2011 like Anno 2070 or Skyrim will only run fluent in low to medium detail settings. See what my link suggests.
