  1. That takes me back Nev. I used to teach design-based metalwork when I first went into teaching from industry. We used to do a lot of scroll work with the kids. We didn't have the luxury of a MIG welder - we had to braze the joints :) Also we have something in common ..... efflourescence. Look it up :)
  2. Hi and welcome to ExTS Is this your machine and specs ? click here If so .... This implies that you do not have a conventional ATX Power Supply. Is this what you have ? http://www.asuslaptop.co.uk/prodimages/HP_65Watt_Universal_AC_Adapter_for_Notebooks_ED494AA_ABU.jpg If so - I don't think that machine was designed for upgrading the viseo Card / PSU Somebody else here may be able to confirm this.
  3. Hi You have not said what you want to do with your system. If you buy a Graphics Card the chances are that you will need to up-grade your PSU too. You are not going to get much for your £150 if this is the case. Take a look here click here Keep in mind that you would need a PSU too ( approx £60 for a relatively decent one )
  4. Hi and welcome to ExTS That looks like malware. If you use P2P software ( Limewire etc ) please remove this from your system as this is the most likely cause of any infection. Download MBAM from here: ( you want the free version ) click here Install > update > run the scan It will produce a log. Please copy this and post it here. I think ( from what I have read ) that this particular malware alters the hosts file too and this will need to be addressed by one of our malware experts. I will leave a message for one of our Security Experts to advise you further. (Even if MBAM appears to have fixed your problem you will still need further advice :) )
  5. Hi Ray, I am sure you are aware that if one of his family installed it on a system then if you install it too .....this would be illegal ( according to Microsoft ) Not the water torture again :) :)
  6. You are welcome - happy it was that easy :)
  7. Hi Ray Not many options in the BIOS ! XP does not come with the facility to run SATA and as such you will need to install the drivers when installing the OS. If you have a floppy drive this can be done quite easily. Failing that you would need to take a close look at my previous link.
  8. Hi and welcome to ExTS Try a system restore to a date just prior to your problem starting. Click Start > type in ....system restore ...then follow the screen prompts. Yours files / photos etc will be fine.
  9. Hi Ray If you also try using the IDE option it may see the drive as PATA. You would lose the SATA functionality ........ but I doubt that you would be too bothered.
  10. You have been hunting for a touch screen for a while Nev - hope you are happy with it :)
  11. Hi John and welcome to ExTS I am not sure how it is going to do this ..... unless it is the contents of My Documents ? If you make a note of the location you could always complete the re-install then go to the stored location and either transfer your files to an external drive for your own use - or simply delete them.
  12. You have had the CPU out at least twice now - you should be able to check this quite easily. If the pins are bent they will not locate in the socket. If there are any broken this will be obvious when you take a look at them. Let me know what you want to do :) You could try taking the RAM modules out. Switch on. Do you get the same Blue Screen ? (It will not boot up - but we need to know if the BSOD still occurs ) Take a look here too click here
  13. Hi Ray As far as I know Digital River is Win7 only. Take a look in the BIOS. There may be an option to disable / enable Sata there. If you can enable SATA the drive should be seen. This should be in Advanced SATA mode can sometimes be set to IDE / RAID / AHCI Select AHCI. If that isn't an option take a look here: click here
  14. I have managed to look at the video all the way through ..... Did the system work before you flashed the BIOS ? If you have anything on the drive that is needed formatting the drive will obviously wipe this. Also - do you have a full installation disk or recovery disks to re-install ? Is this a solid state drive ? If not - we can connect it to another machine and run a check of the drive itself.
  15. The STOP code 0000009C is invariably hardware related. ( no surprise there :) ) Take a look here: http://s13.zetaboards.com/kenspchelp/topic/6964867/1/#new Strip the system down to just the motherboard and the main power connection from PSU. It should be stable and you should get POST beeps. ( assuming that there is an internal speaker )
  16. Hi Ray You are getting to sound like a Moderator / Admin on ExTS :)
  17. Good to hear you sorted it by yourself :)
  18. Hi highland hippie Good to hear that your original problem has been resolved :) The answer - simply - is yes. Could I ask you to post this in the appropriate forum please as it is not a networking issue and members with a similar problem will not be able to find it here. We can advise further from there.
  19. Hi and welcome to ExTS I have sent a message to one of our Moderators who may be able to advise you further. Please be patient - it may take a day or so before you get a reply :)
  20. Hi Tony and welcome to ExTS If you are the only user of the laptop and have not set a password - you shouldn't be asked for one. Unless ..... Have you tried the network password off the router ?
  21. This could be your problem. Can you remember if the machine booted OK after flashing the BIOS ? also .... Can you post the error message next time you get a blue screen please ?
  22. Hi Not really my area of expertise but I did find this... click here Not sure if it will be of any use.
  23. Hi Steve b and welcome to ExTS That's what we are here for ...... and we are a pleasant bunch too. [ well ...... most of us :) ]
  24. Nev's suggestion will confirm if the drive is OK and if an OS can be installed on it. If it can than there are other problems with the Sony. You will probably find that installing an OS on a different system then putting it in the Sony ......the machine will not boot. Or if it does - it will not run properly. This is down to different hardware ( motherbard etc ) on the Sony to what was there when the OS was installed.
