  1. Hi Ray Take a look in the BIOS and see if the hard drive is recognised there. Check Boot Order again. CDROM first Hard Drive second. Check that Auto Detect is enabled re: drives
  2. http://www.sherv.net/cm/emo/dancing/smiley.gif Excellent :)
  3. This may well be causing part of your problem. Take a look here: Too much thermal paste is as bad as not enough. The surface should be cleaned with rubbing alcohol ( isopropyl alcohol ) ..... any pharmacy I doubt if the problem is CPU related. I suggest that you re-seat the CPU heat-sink following the instructions above and we will take it from there.
  4. If you had read the thread - post #7 - you would have discovered that we had tried this already. This is just a note to others reading this thread: This is an option ...... but what the previous poster does not state is that professional recovery is EXTREMELY expensive. There are no guarantees either. You may get some / all / none of your data ............. but you will get a hefty bill too. I suspect from the previous poster's name that he has more than a passing interest in data recovery. If this is the case, I advise you that we do not allow advertising or promotion of products in any way shape or form. You will be gone with the click of a mouse.
  5. Hi and welcome to ExTS The video was locking up - but I got the drift as to the problem. Basically you get the option of "Repair" or "Boot Normally" then it goes to a black screen with flashing curser ............is this correct? CPU problems are few and far between. You say that you re-seated the heatsink and fan. 1. Did you clean off the old thermal paste with an alcohol-based cleaner ? 2. Did you apply a very thin layer of new thermal paste ? 3. Do you have an external enclosure that you can put the hard drive in to connect up to another system ? 4. Does the system beep ( POST beeps ) when you switch on ? If so - how many and what sequence ? 5. Do you get any error messages ?
  6. Good to hear that you are up-and-running again Jim :) I will mark this one "Solved" :)
  7. Hi and welcome to ExTS The specs for your motherboard are here: click here You have one PCIe x 16 slot - so you have a wide choice of video card. ......limited only by what you want to spend :) Take a look here: click here The system specs for that game suggest the following: Your motherboard will support 4 GB RAM. For that particular game your 2 GB RAM will be fine as the system specs suggest just 1GB - obviously more is better. Remember - you cannot exceed 4GB Your 650 Watt PSU will be fine - unless you decide to get a very powerful ( expensive ) Video Card. System specs for that game: click here
  8. This can be caused by cordless phones too. Do you have these in the house ?
  9. We have it on west Wirral too :) My garden !!
  10. Any chance of a photo of the fitment ?
  11. Hi Are you sure it is not just switched off? I know with mine ( Vauxhall Signum ) there is a switch that enables you to do this. ( Why you would want to I don't know !! )
  12. Hi Ray No - not at all. You just need to make sure that you get a SATA drive if your connections are SATA (There is an older IDE - PATA ) No - it just identifies that specific drive. If you are looking for a hard drive then be aware that laptop drives are 2.5 inches and desktop drives are bigger ( 3.5 inches ) Also - they come in 2 different speeds 54,000 and 72,000 r/m Obviously 72,000 r/m is the better option.
  13. Hi In addition to what Randy has suggested ... Is your system 32 bit. ? If it is - the maximum RAM that the system will recognise is 4 GB and it will probably only utilise about 3.5 GB of that. ( The other 0.5 GB could be allocated to on-board graphics ) If the 4GB module does not run by itself it probably need returning to the seller. ( see Randy's comment ) ========== Regarding Drivers ... Are you having a specific problem or do you just want to check that your drivers are up-to-date ? I don't like using third-party software to locate drivers. The up-to-date drivers for your machine are here: click here ========== To determine if you have 32 or 64 bit .... Start > right click on "Computer" > click on properties. ========== When you open the software that you are having problems with you get a message: "The Publisher could not be Verified. Are you sure you want to run this software" You should press "Run" .....not "Cancel" if you want to continue.
  14. I agree Ray - sounds like a new hard drive is needed. ( I think I said this some time back :) )
  15. I've got a TP Link similar to this one click here The wireless signal is good and I get no drop-outs. The reviews for this one look good. Give them a read before you decide. This is a mid-range router comparing prices. There is no absolute guarantee that this will solve the problem - but a regular dropped connection is usually down to the router and not the computer.
  16. Hi I have looked through the manual again - it is not obvious where the location is to change the channel ( unless I am missing something ! ) To access the software settings do the following: Open Internet Explorer and where http\\www. etc etc is ....delete everything in this box and type 192.168.1.1 and then hit ENTER You will be faced with the Login screen. The password default is 1234. There is no need to change this - unless you want to. Once in - look for Wireless and search around these settings. If Advanced is there - try looking here. You are looking to change the channel setting only. Let me know how you get on ( the manual is not the easiest to find information )
  17. In Starbuck's absence .... No - you have done nothing wrong. Split the logs over 2 or 3 posts. Don't forget the Extras log.
  18. Hi Ray I wonder if a new hard drive is called for? Put the problem hard drive back into the enclosure and connect it to the USB port of the working machine. Look in Computer and make a note of the drive letter allocated to the main partition ( the biggest ) on the problem drive. Then goto Start and type in ....cmd ...... then right click on cmd.exe that appears top left of screen > Run as Administrator At the command prompt type ....... chkdsk X: /r /f .......assuming X: is the drive letter of your external hard drive. There is a gap between each element. Let us know if any errors are found. I know you have done this once before. You also have a Seatools Disk. Try running this from the working machine and run a check on the problem drive. Any errors - replace the hard drive.
  19. Hi I am just on my way out. The manual for your router is here click here I had a quick look and there seems to be no reference to selecting the channel. It is usually under Wireless LAN setup. I did find one reference that suggests that the channel is set to 6 by default so we would want to change that to 11 or 1. I will pick this up later. ( Please reply - this will prompt me to locate this thread again )
  20. Hi Ray Control Panel > Printers Right click on the printer and click on Properties If Maintenance is here there should be an option to clean print heads.
  21. ?? I looked at all 3 and they all recorded 6310. Try going back to device manager > click on Display Adapters > right click on the device > uninstall Restart the computer Windows should find "New Hardware" and re-install the drivers again.
  22. Hi Try changing the channel to one of the 3 recommended in my first post before you invest in a new router.
  23. Hi and welcome to ExTS :) No problem at all - you may also want to help out too if you feel inclined :)
