  1. Hi Ray If you have the drive out and connected to another machine .... Click on Computer and make a note of the drive letter for the drive. Let's assume "X" Then Start .....type in .....cmd ......right click on cmd.exe that will show up top left if using Vista or Win 7. ( if using XP cmd will be fine ) Now hit ENTER At the command prompt type in chkdsk X: /r /f ............ENTER ............[ note the spaces ] X is the drive letter of your problem hard drive. After the scan you can try the hard drive in the problem machine again and see if there is any difference.
  2. Replacing the PSU is possibly easier that replacing a hard drive and re-installing. Certainly quicker :)
  3. Hi CRC errors could indicate a failing hard drive - they could also indicate a power failure causing data loss. The multiple restarts could be PSU related or a problem with the hard drive itself. Try this: Start ..... type in ...cmd ......right click on the cmd.exe that appears top left of screen > Run as Administrator At the prompt type in .... chkdsk C: /r /f .......ENTER There is a space after ...sk and after C: and /r This will check C: drive for errors and attempt to fix them if it finds any.
  4. Hi Ray Download "Seatools for DOS" from here: click here ( click on Downloads in the link ) Burn it to a CD then use it to check out your hard drive. If the hard drive passes we will need to take it out and connect it to another machine to run a couple more checks. Unless you have a drive that can be used as a replacement ?
  5. Glad you got it sorted in the end :) Can I suggest a new thread for the second problem and I will mark this one "Solved" ?
  6. Hi, Before you try the Digital River download ( it is legal ) try this: Switch on and constantly tap F8 about once per second. This will take you to the Advanced Boot Options. There should be an option "Repair your Computer" ..........if there is ....give this a try. Alternatively .... Acer usually have a recovery partition. Switch on ...... hold CTRL down and tap F10 NOTE: Using the recovery partition or the Digital River solution will wipe all content off the hard drive. The recovery method will revert the computer to exactly how it was when first bought - including all of the bloatware ( Anti-Virus free trial etc etc ) You will lose all installed software - saved files - photos etc. It may be possible to access these if you take the hard drive out and connect it to another machine using an external enclosure or hard drive to USB adapter. ( both are quite cheap to buy )
  7. Hi and welcome to ExTS Boot up in Safe Mode again. Click on Start > type in .......system restore ...... ENTER Follow the prompts and select a date just before the start of your problem. This will restore the system settings to what they were on that date. You will not lose any files / data / photos etc. Installed software / updates etc after the date will need to be re-installed again.
  8. Hi John and welcome to ExTS If you use F8 to get to the Advanced Boot Options ...... is "Repair your Computer" an option ? see below http://images.knowhow.com/Computing/Windows_Vista_Advanced_Boot_Options.png If so - what happens if you click on this ?
  9. Hi It is no consolation - but I have a Vista laptop with exactly the same problem at the moment ....... If you go back to device manager is the yellow exclamation mark still there? You didn't say if you had a connection using an ethernet cable ?
  10. Hi The specs for your TV are here click here They suggest that the resolution is 1366x768 Have you tried setting the computer resolution to that ? ( If it is an option ) To be honest - if everything else is OK viewed on screen except for the games - it looks like it could be a setting within the software. I am not a gamer so I have no ideas here.
  11. Hi Phil Thanks for the pics - very useful. I have tried to locate a manual for your m/board .... not having much luck. I did discover that some suggest your board is actually a Foxconn a690gm2ma-8ekrs2hM ?? Put the 2GB module in along with the 1GB ones > re-set the BIOS using a jumper if you have one on the m/board or pull the CMOS battery for 1 minute. Try booting up again.
  12. If you still have problems after following Maynard's suggestions ......(hopefully that should fix it) Can you connect with an ethernet cable attached direct to the router ? If you can - right click on the device with the yellow exclamation mark against it > click on "Update Drivers" Use the "Auto Detect" option. ============= If you have no internet connection ... Go back to Device Manager. Right click on the device with the exclamation mark > Properties > Details It will probably say "Device Description" .......click the down arrow and click on Hardware IDs It will give you a list that looks like this: http://iworlds.net/images/hardware-ids.png Copy these and post here. It may help to locate the appropriate driver.
  13. Not too sure that I can add anything here ....... You have a 21 inch TV - this isn't very big. How far are you from the screen when you are having trouble reading the text ? What is the make and model number of the TV ?
  14. Hi Phil and welcome to ExTS :) According to Crucial your 2GB RAM should be compatible click here It also suggests that individual modules can be used - so no problem there. Take a look at the 2GB module ........... is it Non ECC ? What voltage is shown ? ( 1.8 v ? ) What is the voltage shown on the 1GB modules ? ============= EDIT .......additional info Is this your motherboard? click here

  19. Hi Stellaann It is nice to get feedback like this. I am glad that your son is enjoying the game - tell him "Hi" from me :)
  20. Hi XSive and welcome to ExTS I am sorry that you have had no replies yet - the problem is that very few ( if any ) here have experience of servers and related problems. I am going back to my old place of work tomorrow - I will ask the IT guys there if they have any ideas.
  21. Hi Steve Ask Pete or Gene to take a look at your system - they will pick up on stuff that MBAM doesn't. If there is malware there - they will soon tell you :)
  22. The un-install tool ( posted by maynardvdm ) is usually the way we recommend to remove Norton from your system. If you use any other method you may be left with remnants in the Registry etc These are not particularly "unsafe" but can cause problems. Just as a note ........ It is not recommended to have 2 AVs on your system. These will often conflict and cause problems.
  23. If you have any problems there is always an option to download a legal version of Win 7 click here
  24. Hi and welcome to ExTS The simple answer is yes. Microsoft updates are not just for Internet Explorer. They are used to update Operating System (service packs)/ install Patches ( small pieces of software that correct errors in installed software ) / update common hardware drivers. Leave your update options set to automatic and just forget about them :)
  25. I answered it too - good luck :)
