  1. OK - I have the picture now. Disconnect ALL drives apart from the hard drive that you use to boot up from. ( The XP drive ) You can simply unplug the power and data cables from the drives. Take the external drive out too. Disconnect the CD and the Floppy Drive too. We need to eliminate them from the system to confirm that one of them is not the problem. Try booting up now. When you switch on .........do you get any beeps from the system? one is normal - any more let me know the sequence please ( 3 long ......... or 1 long 2 short etc. ) This is assuming that the system used to beep once when it was OK. Did the system used to beep once ?
  2. That is good to hear. As to why your Admin account suddenly corrected itself after you used the Guest account ............... ??? Usually if the Admin account is corrupt it has to be re-created. At least your machine is behaving itself now :)
  3. No - not "updates" as such. They are pieces of software ( code ) that have been installed on your system that "enhance" the function of Internet Explorer. Some add ons are installed by Microsoft and some come bundled with other software. Usually your permission is required to install the add-on. This is linked with playing video in IE. It could have been installed if you downloaded a DivX media player.
  4. You have 7 independent hard drives - impressive. How do you connect them to the motherboard ? Are these IDE drives or SATA ? From your m/b specs you have 4 SATA connections on the m/b 1 IDE 1 Floppy You have 7 hard drives / 1 floppy drive / and a DVD drive Are all of these connected at the same time ? If this refers to the USB / Floppy / CD ............you said they could "boot" in your first post. I am totally confused.
  5. Hi and welcome to ExTS :) I assume that you re-installed XP ? Which Service Pack do you have ? Start > right click on My Computer > Properties XP should be using SP3.
  6. Hi and welcome to ExTS :) Are you saying that you used the recovery disks to restore the system to factory settings? If you are trying to recover files etc - do not save anything to the machine or download anything as this will over-write the files and make any recovery virtually impossible. You will be very lucky to get back all what you have lost. What is the "restore file software" that you have ?
  7. Hi Do you get any error messages ? If so - what ? How many drives do you have? How many have an operating system on them? Are you dual booting ? How are the drives connected ? I don't understand this statement. Do you mean that they appear active when checked by the BIOS or you put a disk in and the system wil lboot off that?
  8. Hi and welcome to ExTS There is no problem with having the CDROM drive as first in the boot order - this is normal. If, for instance, you wanted to put in an Operating System disk to boot from - if you had the hard drive as the first boot device it would never see the OS on the disk. If there is no OS in the CDROM drive the system then looks at the next device in the boot order ...........the hard drive. ============ Do you get any error message at all ? ============ Do you have any means of connecting this hard drive to another machine ? external caddy or adapter ? ============ Do you have a full installation disk or recovery disks ?
  9. Hi and welcome to ExTS :) We have a wide range of knowledge here - hopefully somebody will be able to assist.
  10. Hi If you goto Start > type in webcam ..........do not hit ENTER Does webcam appear top left of screen ? If so click on this. I can only find 3 Notebooks in the K60 series .... K60IJ K60IL K60IN I suspect it may be a K60IJ the last 2 letters could look like a "U" ....... is this possible ? Drivers are here: click here It may be that an update has installed the wrong drivers.
  11. Hi and welcome to ExTS :) Also try ....... Start > Control Panel > Internet Options > Delete Delete the Cookies and Temp Internet Files It could be a corrupt cookie. You will need to log in again with login name and password to sites like this that store your login details
  12. Hi and welcome to ExTS We are going to need more information than you have provided so far. 1. What is the make and model number of your machine ? 2. Have you replaced the battery recently ? 3. What is the exact error message that you are getting ?
  13. Hi and welcome to ExTS :)
  14. Please confirm: 1. The system boots up OK if the old XP drive is not in place. 2. The XP drive is jumpered to "Slave" 3. If the IDE drives are on the same cable that the drive with Win 7 / 8 on is on the end of the cable and the XP drive is on the centre connection. 4. The Win 7 / 8 drive is second in the Boot Order behind the DVD Drive ...........in other words the old XP drive is below the Win 7/8
  15. Thanks for the logs - I will ask one of our security experts to take a look to see if they can offer any advice.
  16. Was this with MBAM - or AVG ? MBAM log that you have posted shows nothing malicious. ============ Download OTL to your desktop. right click on the link and select 'Save Link/Target As'. if you have problems, try this download link: OTL Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted. When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output. Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check . . http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/new/Otllatest.png Now copy the lines in bold below. Click the Run Scan button. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/runscan.png Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long. When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL. Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post them with your next reply. Note: Running the above script with OTL will : turn on your system restore and set a new restore point (XP only) set a new restore point (if system restore is turned on) Vista & Win7. In your next reply, please submit: Both reports from OTL You may need to spread these over 2 or 3 posts.
  17. Hi and welcome to ExTS This leads me to think that it could be malware related. MalwareBytes creates a log. Open MBAM and click on "Logs" Click on the most recent log > it will open in Notepad. Highlight all of the text and copy it ( CTRL + C ) Assuming you are using this machine at the moment ...... paste the MBAM log in your next reply. ===================
  18. Hi There is a "FixIt" in this link: click here DON'T use it yet please ......let's check one or two things. 1. Start ....type in ....dxdiag ......ENTER Click on Display What is listed as the driver and version ? 2. In the search box type KB2454826 ........hit ENTER Do you have this on your system ?
  19. Hi, I will ask one of our security experts to take a look at this thread to see if they can assist.
  20. Unlikely - unless you had a non-bootable disk in the drive.. NTLDR missing is to do with the boot.ini file / trying to boot from a non-bootable device etc. If the machine was trying to boot from the XP Drive you would get this.
  21. Hi Debbie Bottom left of screen ...... http://cdn0.mos.techradar.futurecdn.net///images/windows-vista-start-button-580-75.jpg
  22. You are reading my mind :) Connect up the DVDs first - boot up. Then put the SATA drive back .........boot up. If all is OK to here ..... check the XP drive. The jumper should not be set to "Master" - make it "Slave"
  23. Hi and welcome to ExTS Possibly - the only real way to find out is to connect it and see. You didn't say if your computer was a desktop or laptop. I assume desktop. The caddy you will need ( assuming Win 2000 is a desktop ) is a 3.5 inch IDE caddy. You can also get an IDE to USB adapter. ( basically a cable with appropriate connections ) Click here There may be cheaper ones if you search around. Laptops use 2.5 inch drives.
