  1. Take a look here: ( Best Video Cards 2012 ) click here You can decide what you want to pay :)
  2. Hi and welcome to ExTS Confirm this for us please as it makes a difference re: RAM ( see below ) Start > right click on My Computer > Properties It should tell you here. If you have a 32 bit system you are limited to 4GB RAM - no matter what the motherboard capability. The m/board will support 8GB DDR2 RAM You can add 2GB ( 32 bit system ) or 6GB ( 64 bit system ) You don't say what PSU you have. A decent Video Card is going to need around 650 Watts - possibly more depending on choice. I suspect that the 7950GT only needs 400 - 450 Watts. If this is the case you will need to upgrade the PSU too. Far Cry 3 System Requirements ( recommended ) Intel Core i3 2.9GHz 4 GB RAM Win7 DX11 12 GB free HD space XP supports DX 9 There is an option here for a version of DX 10 click here Your system could certainly be upgraded but with limitations. What would limit it would be the PLGA775 socket and the CPUs it could run. If 32 bit - 4 GB RAM max. One of our other Mods may be able to add some more :) EDIT: Sorry Vr5fx I was writing this as you posted :)
  3. This is what you connect the cable to. See the attachment 1698 in your post above.
  4. Nice candle stick Nev :)
  5. Do you have a connection for an ethernet cable ? You can boot up from Safemode with Networking. =========== Did you use this previously ? click here
  6. Hi Do you have internet access ? If so try this first: Running from the unstable video Card Start > Run ....type in .....devmgmt.msc ....ENTER Click the + next to Video and Game Controllers Right click on your Video Card > Update Drivers. Let Windows do this automatically.
  7. Hi and welcome to ExTS 1. Can you connect OK with an ethernet cable direct to the router ? Start > type in ......devmgmt.msc ......ENTER Click the + next to "Network Adapters" 2. Are there any yellow exclamation marks or red Xs ? 3. Please let me know what is listed there.
  8. Hi CL9 = CAS Latency It is to do with the RAM timing. In other words it is the delay that takes place between the memory controller's instructions and the data being present on the RAM output. In general - the lower this value the faster the RAM functions. Unbuffered memory is a little less stable than memory that is buffered. Most home systems use unbuffered as it is cheaper. Basically there is an extra stage on the memory module. Non-ECC - this again is generally used for home PCs. ECC (error correcting code ) memory is often referred to as Server Memory. It is more stable ( but slightly slower ) ECC memory is generally more expensive too. ============ We could do with your motherboard details to check out the supported RAM - I would have thought Crucial would have identified that. Could you provide a link to the crucial scan details ? You could try Speccy from here: click here
  9. Hi To confirm run the scanner from Crucial click here If your Operating System is 32 bit the most it will support is 4 GB - even if the motherboard supports 8 GB
  10. The Storm seems the better of the two. I think the "44 pin" is a miss-type and should be 24 pin as this is the standard power connection to the motherboard. It has a PCIe 6 pin power connection which some video cards need. Your system is old now. Adding a 500 Watt PSU and a video card is not going to future-proof it. Even with the PSU and Video Card you will find gaming limited. I don't like advising people on how to spend their hard-earned cash. I prefer you to make a decision based on information received. It depends what you want to spend on a card - and many medium to high-end cards need much more than 500 Watts. Take a look here: click here click here too You need to know if the card will run on 500 Watts ( most of these from eBuyer will ) You also need to know if it will fit in the space available in your case. ( I am not sure how much height you have available ) I still suggest that you get the PSU first and get this working before you spend more cash.
  11. HiThat is good to hear - and by far the cheaper option :)
  12. Can we mark this one as "Solved" ?
  13. Hi, Take a look here first: click here Post the logs ( you may need to split them over 2 or 3 posts ) One of our security experts will advise you further :)
  14. Nev is right - remove Avast and keep Security Essentials. DO NOT remove ntvdm.exe
  15. Would you like to add a Cuddly Toy and a Conveyor Belt to this ?? ( or is this just showing my age ???? :) )
  16. Hi again Please take a look at Nev's post first. Update to SP3 then take a look at the other advice.
  17. Hi and welcome to ExTS I removed the link to your "laptop battery" - it was a link to PCHF Home Page ?? Have you posted this there too ? I had never heard of this device before :) ( I am not a gamer ) Have you tried taking the battery out and running on the mains adapter alone ? One of our other members may be able to assist with the Elgato. EDIT: I just checked - Malnutrition seems to be making good progress over at PCHF :)
  18. As Maynard confirms - your Hard drive is SATA. (although your actual connections look non-standard) That PSU you linked to will do the job :) The inside of your case looks very dusty - it would benefit from a clean. Use a can of compressed air ( any computer shop or Halfords ) or a soft brush. This is best done outside - for obvious reasons.
  19. Give Revo a go This is becoming an itch that needs more than scratching !! :)
  20. Hi Install Revo Uninstaller from here ( you need to scroll down for the free option ) click here Run it. It will list all installed programs. If WMPNS ...... is listed try uninstalling it. Bare in mind - Windows Media Player my show too - you don't want to un-install this. BEFORE YOU DOWNLOAD REVO ... Take a look here too: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run Is it listed there ?
  21. As you say - the "could not reconnect ....." message may be linked with this. You ran chkdsk earlier - did this find any faults ? Still with Media Player problem ...... Boot up. Start > type in ......msconfig .....ENTER Click the StartUp tab If there is anything there related to Windows Media Player Network Service ..........uncheck it > OK
  22. If you are scrapping the old laptop don't forget .... Take the hard drive out. You can format it and put it in an external enclosure - create an extra drive for storage / backups You can do this from the enclosure after you take off what you need. Take the RAM out. You never know - it may be compatible with the new laptop.
  23. That link is very useful Seedy21 - thanks :)
