  1. Hi, I see from your IP Address that you are UK based. If this machine is new - then take it back and request that they sort it out. Somehow I suspect that it is not a new machine - but a refurbished one as you are getting a " ......Not Genuine Windows " message. If you bought this from a retailer ( shop / online ) then I suggest that you contact them and ask for your money back. No doubt they will refuse. You can then tell them about the Windows not being genuine message and that Microsoft and Trading Standards will be informed if they don't comply with your request. I hate being conned !!
  2. Hi and welcome to ExTS If you are spending $300 on a machine you will get what you pay for. If you read the reviews - only 3 - they are not very complimentary. You will not be buying a gaming machine - one review said ".....emails and general use" The processor is basic. It does have a 64 bit OS but only 4GB RAM You would probably need to upgrade this to 8GB The Hard Drive is 7200 r/m which is better than 5400 r/m on some machines. To answer your question - The specs do not mention a PCIe x16 slot - but most m/boards do have at least one. If it has this then your Video Card will fit - but I doubt that it has ( see below ) At the moment it has on-board video which will be no good for games. Your biggest problem with this machine is the Power Supply Unit. It is external and only 65 Watt For most gaming video cards you need at least 500 watts and often more. You are not going to power any video card with that PSU - and because of this constraint the m/board probably does not have a PCIe x 16 slot. click here These specs make no mention of a PCIe x 16 slot.
  3. You may be interested in this link click here It looks like the ATI - just.
  4. This is not normal - once you have signed in you should not need to sign in again to post a reply. When you sign in do you check the box to "Remember Me" ?
  5. Hi You could try this: click here I have not used it so cannot say how good / bad it is :)
  6. 89 C is getting quite hot. If your machine is overheating it will probably shut down. If it is running OK the I would be tempted to leave well alone - or until it starts being a problem.
  7. I don't really know how to reply to your post - you seem to have said it all already. I suppose "Welcome" will have to facilitate
  8. Hi If you do intend to replace the thermal paste you will need to get rid of the old stuff by using rubbing alcohol ( from any pharmacy ). Spread a thin layer over one of the surfaces and re-connect.
  9. Hi Jim I tend to agree with you. If you have anything on the drive that you need I would back it up before attempting the re-install. When you re-install you should get informed that there is already a version of Windows on the disk and be asked if you wish to delete it. You need to completely format the drive before you start the installation process.
  10. Hi If your machine is running OK apart from running hot - then I would be inclined to leave it until after your coursework deadline. :)
  11. Hi, 8.37 GB is too small for you primary drive. If you go to Start > Computer >D:\ How much free space is there on D:\ ?
  12. Hi Jim, Windows.old.000 sounds like you have re-installed a second version of your OS which has renamed the original version Widows.old When you click on Computer ...........what drive letters do you see? How big is the partition with Windows.old.000 on ? ...............Is this on a separate partition to the newly installed oS. ? If you re-installed the OS this normally over-writes the partition where the files are stored. What did you do exactly when you re-installed the OS ?
  13. You still have a serious problem on your system. Starbuck should be around later - but I hope you noted what he said earlier re: bank details etc. Even if you do not use the machine for banking - Starbuck still needs to advise you further.
  14. Worth it if you get your data back :)
  15. Hi I thought I had answered that in my previous post. I can see no reason why not - but if you have a problem I am sure that MS will supply you with a replacement Product Key as you have 2 legitimate ones.
  16. Hi and welcome to ExTS If 8.36 GB is the size of the partition that you have Vista installed on then this is too small. The recommended size is about 15 GB or larger. Start > ...type in ......diskmgmt.msc .......ENTER You will see Disk 0 with the partitions. What do you have ? ============ Also ..... Start > Computer > D:\ Do you have any data on this drive ?
  17. Hi I have had to read this a few times to get it into my head :) If you use the Win7 disk used on this machine for your new one - technically you have the same Product Code applied to 2 machines as both would be functioning. I realise that you wish to transfer or use the license that comes with the Upgrade to the old machine. This is basically the Product Key that is associated with the machine. Take a look here: click here You should be able to install the Win7 OS to your new machine. Then on the old machine apply the upgrade product code as described above. The only reservation I have is that one is a full installation and the other is an upgrade - but that should not matter. Let's know how you get on.
  18. Thanks Jim - I understand now. The stair-lift gizmo emitting a radio frequency would only interfere with the router ......say ..........if it was transmitting on the same or near frequency. If your internet connection is OK and not dropping out when you use the stair-lift then there is no conflict. The radio frequency from the stair-lift gizmo would not cause your computer to crash. I assume that this is after you re-installed the OS ? What is missing ? 21GB is too big for the Recycle Bin. Try this free software to recover the data from your memory stick click here If you have saved other data to the stick your chances of recovery become less.
  19. Hi Jim, Now you have me confused :) Is the system working OK - apart from what is listed below? If you have re-installed as you say in post #6 then installed software will need to be re-installed. Is this the case ? Now you DO have me confused. "stair lift gizmo" ...........????? Is there an outside chance that this has ended up in the Recycle Bin ? Can you itemise the problems you are still having and at the same time let me know if the system is running OK otherwise.
  20. Hi I will ask one of our Security Experts to take a look at the MBAM log - just in case. Please be patient - they are busy guys.
  21. I can find no reference to sbdlef.dll other than what you have posted on the web. Are you sure it has been typed correctly? Start > ...........type in ............cmd ..........ENTER At the prompt type ............ping 127.0.0.1 ..............ENTER ( space after ping ) You should get 4 packets sent and 4 received no losses. Do you ? Have you run MalwareBytes ? If not d/l from here to the memory stick: click here Install > Update > Run it It will produce a log in Notepad. Copy this to the memory stick and post here please.
  22. Hi and welcome to ExTS CPU at 100% is common but, in my experience, the causes are so varied that it is difficult to locate the problem. Are you running a 32 or 64 bit system ? CTRL+ALT+DEL > Processes Can you please list all processes that are using over 50,000k
  23. Download MalwareBytes from here: click here Install > Update > Run It will produce a log in Notepad - copy this and post it in your next reply.
  24. Hi Download CCleaner from here to your memory stick and install on the problem computer ( 3.7MB ) click here We need to delete temp files. DO NOT use the registry cleaner. Do you still get the same error message.
