1. It doesn't really matter how - as long as you have it working properly :) Well done for sorting your own problem.
2. If video stops running ( freezes ) it seems to me that it can be one of 2 or 3 things: 1. RAM - but you say that you have replaced this. 2. Video Card. This has memory on it too. (It does look like a memory issue) I know you have tried on-board video and got the same results but onboard video is nowhere near as good as a video card when manipulating a lot of graphics. The on-board video makes more use of the installed RAM. If you have a problem with the RAM on the video card you may well be getting the freezing because the system cannot cope. I have had a quick read through and I don't think I read anywhere that you had swapped the Video Card ( except to try the on-board ) If you can borrow one it would be worth trying. It is possible to take it to a small computer company and ask if they will check out the Video Card for you. It may be worthwhile giving them a ring first to ask how much. ( It shouldn't be expensive ) Or If they have a used one that you could try ( leave a deposit ?) This is the route I would be tempted to take now.
3. I can't see anything listed that would help your situation. Have you had a good look around Event Viewer ? - I am surprised if it isn't showing there.
4. Sorry about that .............??? Try this link: click here
5. If you mouse-over the "folder" and you get "0 bytes" there is nothing in it. Or if it is a folder ( the one with the arrow certainly won't be ) Right click > Properties "Size" will tell you if there is anything in there.
6. I deleted the advertisement - I thought it was spam ! I deleted the hosts name - I thought that was spam too !! I have a few questions: 1. Why would a web host who have been around for 14 years suddenly decide to email you specifically ? 2. If it is free - what have you got to lose ? 3. Given the above .............why have you bothered posting here in the first place ..........................could it be for no other reason but to spam this forum ? You are based in France ................correct ?
7. Hi and welcome to ExTS I see you have posted this on TSG - keep us updated as to what else you have tried so that we are not going over the same ground. Is this the device that you have? click here
8. Hi and welcome to ExTS Does this help? click here
9. They have probably deteriorated - they don't last forever.
10. Hi and welcome to ExTS Why do you need to format? This is usually a last resort.
11. Let us know how you get on Stay in touch :)
12. What you refer to is a Junction Point It is not a folder - more a means of directing software to the correct place. Note the arrow on the "Folder" icon. You will also note that the "Folder" is empty.
13. Hi convert E: /fs:ntfs The drive activity will take place on E: ( or whatever your drive letter is ) There is very little chance of any data loss anywhere - and even less on C: When I suggested that you back up the data it was the data on your external drive that I referred to.
14. With all hardware off the board except for the basics and you are still getting no POST then it does look like the m/board has died. If you have a good tech ( small shop ) locally they may check the m/board for you for a small fee. I suspect that it is of no more use though. If you look for your specific m/board on ebay you may be able to get a cheap replacement. If it isn't exactly the same you will need to re-install the Operating System on the hard drive.
15. Hi Janeygee From what I read ( if I understood it correctly ) the old accounts are still there but the new "Zimbra" is an option. If this is the case then there should be no problem. If you can still log in then your account is still there. Can you see new emails after you have logged in ? Can you open them from there ?
16. Hi, There is - but it would be sensible to backup anything on the drive that you cannot afford to lose. Connect the external drive and go to Computer and check what the drive letter is ( possibly E: ) Start > type in ....cmd ........don't hit ENTER yet Right click on the cmd.exe that appears at the top left of the new panel. > Run as Administrator At the command prompt type ... convert drive letter: /fs:ntfs ( where drive letter is substituted for yours - say E ) It should look like this: convert E: /fs:ntfs There is a gap after : You will get a message when the conversion is complete. REMEMBER - backup data first.
17. Hi Randy I found this that may help http://postmaster.free.fr/index_en.html On the site they say they have introduced a new platform ( Zimbra ) It could be that the old forwarding options have been removed. It is unusual to continue receiving mail 3 years after moving away. Janeygee If you go onto the site can you still log in with your old username and password? If not I would suggest that the account has been closed.
18. Post the link and somebody here ( Vr5fx ? ) will take a closer look for you. I found this on Amazon click here The nVidia GT430 costs about £40 If you have to buy Win7 you can add on £80 - £90 for Home Premium
19. Just butting in here .................Hope you don't mind Nev ? A 500GB hard drive will cost about £50 An OEM version of Win7 will cost about £70 If the £105 includes installing Win7 it looks like a good deal. Ask if you are given the Win7 disk.
20. I read French a little Randy - I may be able to help. I am sure janeygee could help where necessary :)
21. You are welcome. At least you are a little more informed so that you can make a decision as to where you want to go from here :)
22. Just to clarify further ..... No is the answer .................but ..............If you bought DDR2 677MHz and the m/board is compatible with 533MHz then your faster RAM would only function at 533MHz and not at the 677MHz that you would hope for. If you are looking to upgrade your system I think you are going to be limited with that particular m/board. It is going to restrict your options. If you are spending hard-earned cash then I would opt for a completely new system. If you want a cheap fix .... Upgrade the RAM on this m/board to 4GB Possibly think about a Video Card upgrade. New PSU to match the new Video Card.
23. Hi tammy jo and welcome to ExTS This doesn't sound like something that you will be able to fix yourself. If the laptop was new in October 2011 then surely it is still covered by the warranty ? I suggest that you check the guarantee period ( usually 1 year ) and then contact the supplier for a repair. This should be free. If you have to return the machine then I suggest that you remove any sensitive data from the hard drive. The machine could be replaced ( unlikely but .....) You don't want your sensitive data available to workshop techs anyway :) You can, of course, ask any further questions of us relating to this or other pc problems :) ============== Just a thought .... If you have a monitor that you can connect to the laptop - do this and if the lines show on the monitor too then it is possibly a video problem ( on the main board of the laptop ) If the picture is normal then the problem lies between the mainboard and the screen itself. It could be a connection problem. I don't suppose the machine was dropped was it ?
24. Good to hear that you managed to fix it without our help :)
