Hi, I thought I recognised the text in your post ..................the original thread was at CHF It was me who was helping you. Strange - you took a little over 2 days to reply to my post of the 14th April When I had not replied after 2 days ( I had my reasons - not forum based ) you decided to dump the thread! I would have got back to you at CHF. I have not seen a lease obtained / expires that shows exactly the same time before ??? Start > Run .....type in .....devmgmt.msc .............ENTER Is there a yellow exclamation mark or red X against the Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller ? ============== Ref Woodyblade CHF Regarding your settings: 10.0.0.4 is a class A IP Address and should carry with it a Subnet of 255.0.0.0 see here Check your settings as BenchZoner suggested in his post.

CONTINUOUS RE-BOOT AFTER FORMATTING HARD-DRIVE
KenB replied to WelshWitch's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Keep us informed. Thermal paste is not a glue - so it does wipe off - especially as you have not got it warm yet. :) -
Do you get any indication that there is power to the printer? LEDs - carriage movement - ????

A phone call to Trading Standards is your starting point. If you need to you can also take him to the small claims court - this costs you nothing. You could also contact the people who awarded the grant and ask them for their advice. if they are a big organisation they may take up your case for you.

If these laptops belong to your charity - and you have not said what this is - then you have every right to full access to them. If they were donated by the guy with the passwords or sold cheaply with the understanding that he maintains them then you have no recourse. Which one is it ? I assume that this guy runs a business ? If so you could have a word with Trading Standards. Trading Standards should be able to give you a lot more information than we can.

Hi Jim Not familiar with the printer in question but if it has been taking progressively longer to "power up" and now is dead in the water so to speak it sounds like it could be a power supply problem. I found this ( not a great deal of use ! ) http://www.epson.co.uk/Printers-and-All-In-Ones/Inkjet/Epson-Stylus-CX6600/Drivers-Support?target=article&extn=.html&articleId=1293

Is this person the actual owner of the laptops ? Almost useless ?? If you are locked out you cannot use them at all !! So - whoever he is is determined that you should not gain access to these machines. Why would you go back to him if you cannot access the machines in the first place ? If you cannot access the machines why would you need to contact this guy so that he can send you a bill? This thread does not read correctly. You say that you are a charity and that you have 10 laptops that have a BIOS and an Admin password. The admin password holder has the BIOS and Admin area pass-worded. Let me make an educated guess here ............... You have access to these machines but only as a guest. You cannot install or change anything. Downloading is limited or not allowed at all. You need Admin approval for anything that you wish to do. If I was a charity making 10 laptops available to the general public this is exactly what I would do. Am I correct so far ?

[Solved] pc home swap build wont boot
KenB replied to matabhaine's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Happy to hear that you managed to sort it out. The riser was obviously shorting out the m/board to the case - which was why I originally suggested sitting it on card. :) -
I think you said earlier ( correct me if I am wrong ..........just read through the whole thread ) that you tried running from the on-board video and got the same problem. If this is the case then it is unlikely to be a compatibility issue. Have you disabled on-board video from Device Manager ? ================= Wait for the system to crash again then make a note of the date and exact time. Boot the system again. Open Event Viewer.........[ Start ....type in ...event viewer ......ENTER ] Click on the > left side of panel ( mine is boxed in red below ) You are looking for an !Error that has the same date and time that you noted above. You will get further information relating to it in the red boxes shown below. This information may help to identify the cause of the problem.

Hi and welcome to FpsH Good to hear that you solved your own problem :) Please be aware that malware can be transferred via memory sticks etc. - just thought I would point that out :)

[Solved] pc home swap build wont boot
KenB replied to matabhaine's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi, I suggest that you follow my instructions here: (It looks as if you have done this anyway :) ) http://kenspchelp.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=246 I assume that there is a speaker connected on the motherboard ? Try unscrewing the m/board and sitting it on a piece of card / newspaper to insulate it from the case. Switch on. You should get POST beeps. -
CONTINUOUS RE-BOOT AFTER FORMATTING HARD-DRIVE
KenB replied to WelshWitch's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
It can only be one of two things now ....... The Power Supply Unit or the motherboard. I can give you a link to how to test the PSU if you wish. A local PC Tech ( NOT the ones used earlier ! ) could test the m/board for you - just to confirm. I would ask if there is a charge for the service first :) -
Hi and welcome to ExTS I am not familiar with touch screen systems so my help may be limited, I assume that you have the manual - but if not it is here click here Have you gone through the calibration process ? Apparently you can enable/disable "use your finger as an input device" If you are using your fingers - is this option enabled ?

CONTINUOUS RE-BOOT AFTER FORMATTING HARD-DRIVE
KenB replied to WelshWitch's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi Sorry for the delay in posting - I have been out and just got back :) We have probably done this before but we need to do it again ( as you have repaired the problem with the heatsink ) 1. Disconnect the monitor and any other external hardware. 2. Switch off at the wall ( leave the plug in to maintain the earth connection to the motherboard ) 3. Strip all cards ( video / RAM etc ) off the m/board 4. Disconnect the power connection to the hard drive and the CDROM drive 5. Disconnect the data cables from the 2 drives at the motherboard end You should have only the 20(4) way connection from the PSU connected to the board. Switch on. You should get POST beeps. Do you ? -
Which laptop for gaming + general usage?
KenB replied to auronini's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
I think the Toshiba has the better graphics as you say. The problem is that it has only 4GB RAM. To get the best out of the Graphics Card you need 8GB RAM. If you want this machine for gaming I would consider putting another 4GB RAM in. The Toshiba has an Intel i3 processor too. -
Task scheduler engine not working
KenB replied to shuggie's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi Go back to the Advanced Startup Options ( F8 ) and select "Safe Mode with Command Prompt" At the prompt type in ... rstrui.exe This will start System Restore. Select a date that is just before the start of your problems. This will restore your system to the system settings on that specific date. Your files and data will be fine. -
CONTINUOUS RE-BOOT AFTER FORMATTING HARD-DRIVE
KenB replied to WelshWitch's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
It only needs to be a very thin layer of paste. If this isn't right the chip will get very hot and cause the system to shut down. This doesn't explain why you are not getting POST beeps. Did you used to get a single beep before? ( If there is an internal speaker connected you should do ) Can you confirm that there is a speaker in the case please. There should be a connection on the edge of the board with SPK next to it. If there are wires coming from this then there is a speaker. ( you would have had to disconnect this to take the m/board out ) ================= Try unscrewing the m/board and sitting it on a card or newspaper to insulate it from the case. you may need to disconnect a few things to get it free from the case. You can leave these disconnected - as long as the main 20 pin connection is connected you should get POST beeps. There is no need to take it out completely - we just need to make sure it is insulated from the case itself. Switch on Any beeps or visual now ? -

Hi and welcome to ExTS Can you boot up at all and get to the desktop ? If not ....... Safe Mode. Switch on > constantly tap F8 about once per second. From the list of options select Safe Mode Does it boot up with this ? -
CONTINUOUS RE-BOOT AFTER FORMATTING HARD-DRIVE
KenB replied to WelshWitch's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi I have merged your two threads as ( I am assuming ) that they are the same problem still ?? You made an excellent job of cleaning up that botched mess - AND you managed to get the broken pin out ( more than the repair guys managed to do :) ) When you put the heatsink back - did you apply a thin layer of thermal paste ? I have been away for a week so have not been able to reply. -
Graphics card compatibility with pc
KenB replied to snodge182's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi Your P5G41C-M LX motherboard is a uATX ( ultra ATX ) board [ 9.6 x 8.5 inch ] This is much smaller than the standard ATX board. Your Video Card [ HD 6770 ] is a wide card ( dual slot ) There is a heatsink to the back and left of the blue PCIe x 16 slot ( the heatsink has ASUS written on it ) http://uk.asus.com/websites/Global/products/YraY16Bgg3U1mAW1/9PGim64gaskOVzn3_500.jpg I am unsure if your choice of card will fit without touching the heatsink. -
I am no expert at company law - BUT ...........if a product is advertised at £25, even if it is a mistake, I am sure you are entitled to buy it at that price. Do a printout of the advertisement and make a few enquiries. You may get a bargain yet :) I have just checked the link - strangely it is now £320 :) However ................... the other one is still listed at £17 :) :) Check with citizens advice - Printscreen the advertisement - then contact the company.

Hi and welcome to ExTS I deleted your other post :) Take a look here: click here From the official Corsair site 32GB Vengeance RAM = $699 or £439 If the deal seems too good to be true - then it is exactly that. EDIT I did Google Cleverboxes.com and they get good reviews: click here It may be worth giving them a ring to confirm the price and ask how they can be selling £400+ worth of RAM so cheaply
